Bizum is the mobile payment service used in Spain, where people send and receive euros straight to the bank account linked to their mobile number. If you are abroad and need to pay a family member, friend or contractor who uses Bizum, Coinepay Global Remittance lets you start the transfer from the Coinepay app or dashboard and have the money delivered to their account. This guide explains what you need, how the flow works and what to do if something goes wrong.

What Bizum is and which currency it uses

Bizum is a person-to-person payment system built into the apps of participating Spanish banks (Bizum accounts use Spanish or Andorran IBANs). A Bizum payment delivers euros (EUR) to the bank account that the recipient has linked to their mobile number. Importantly, Bizum does not load a separate stored-balance wallet: the money lands in the recipient's ordinary bank account. The linked phone number does not have to be Spanish, but the recipient must have an account at a participating bank and have activated Bizum in that bank's app.

Because Bizum settles in euros, Coinepay converts your sending currency to EUR for the payout. The exchange rate and any fee are shown clearly in the app before you confirm, so you always see the amount the recipient will receive and what you will pay before committing.

Before you start

You will need an active Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you have not registered yet, you can create an account and download the app for iOS or Android. Remittance is subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations, so keep your profile details accurate and up to date.

Details you need from the recipient

Collect these from the person who will receive the money, and confirm them carefully:

  • The registered Bizum mobile number. This is the phone number the recipient linked to Bizum through their bank. Bizum's published rules expect a number without a Spanish country code to be entered as + followed by the country code, so ask for the full international format.
  • The recipient's full name, exactly as registered with their bank and Bizum. A name that does not match the account can cause the payout to be rejected or delayed.
  • Confirmation that Bizum is active. One mobile number can be registered through only one bank at a time, so make sure the number they give you is the one actively linked to Bizum.

Double-check the number and name with the recipient directly rather than relying on a saved contact, since a transfer that reaches the wrong account is difficult to reverse.

Step by step: sending to a Bizum account

  1. Open Coinepay and start a new transfer. Go to Global Remittance in the app or the self-service dashboard and choose to send money.
  2. Select the destination. Choose Spain as the destination country and EUR as the payout currency.
  3. Choose the mobile wallet / Bizum payout method. Pick the option that delivers to a Bizum-linked account by mobile number. If you do not see Bizum for your situation, a standard bank deposit to the recipient's Spanish IBAN is the alternative.
  4. Enter the recipient's details. Add the registered mobile number in full international format and the recipient's full legal name exactly as registered. Enter any other fields the app requests.
  5. Enter the amount. Type either the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive.
  6. Review the rate and fees. Coinepay shows the exchange rate, the fee and the final EUR amount before you confirm. The estimated arrival time is also shown on this screen. Read it carefully.
  7. Confirm and pay. Authorize the transfer. You may be asked for the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds as part of compliance checks.
  8. Track the status. Each transfer has live status tracking in the app, from processing through to delivered.

How fast it arrives and what the recipient sees

Coinepay transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country; the estimate you see before confirming is the figure to rely on. On the Bizum side, when the recipient is already registered, funds normally become available in their linked bank account within seconds of the payout being released.

The recipient does not need to approve an ordinary incoming Bizum payment; it simply appears in their bank account with the sender's name shown. If a number is not yet registered for Bizum, the system sends an SMS invitation and the pending amount is cancelled automatically if the person does not register within 48 hours.

Recipient limits and verification

Bizum applies its own published person-to-person limits on the recipient side. Bizum caps receipts at 60 operations per month, and individual banks may set lower limits of their own. If a payout is refused because the recipient has hit a cap, they can check their bank's Bizum terms. These are the recipient's bank rules and are separate from anything in your Coinepay account. For your own sending limits and any applicable thresholds, check the Coinepay app, which shows them at the time you set up the transfer.

Troubleshooting

Wrong number entered

Check the number and name on the review screen before you authorize. Once a Bizum reaches a recipient's bank account, it cannot simply be reversed without the recipient's consent or a court order. If you realize the number was wrong, contact Coinepay support immediately and also ask the unintended recipient to return the funds.

Name mismatch

If the name you entered does not match the account linked to that mobile number, the payout may be held or returned. Confirm the recipient's full name exactly as registered with their bank and resubmit.

Wallet limit reached

If the recipient has reached their daily or monthly Bizum receiving cap, the payout can fail. Wait until the cap resets or ask them whether their bank applies a lower limit, then try again.

Unregistered or inactive Bizum

If the number is not active for Bizum, the recipient will get an SMS invitation and must register through their bank within 48 hours, or the pending amount is cancelled. Ask them to activate Bizum in their bank's app and confirm the number before you resend.

Compliance review

Larger or unusual transfers may be placed under review. Coinepay may ask for documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Provide what is requested promptly through the app so the transfer can continue. All customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists.

A transfer that errors before confirmation

If the app shows an error before you confirm, start the transfer again. If the problem persists, contact Coinepay support or reach the team on Telegram.

A note on fees and local rules

On the Bizum side, the service is described as having no cost to users, though charges can depend on the recipient's own bank. For your Coinepay transfer, the rate and fee are always shown before you confirm, so there are no surprises. Coinepay sends to every country and region except those under comprehensive sanctions, and never to sanctioned persons.

Watch out for request-versus-payment confusion

Within Bizum, receiving an ordinary payment needs no approval, but approving a money request actually sends money. Remind your recipient to check the transaction type in their bank app, especially if someone claims to be sending a refund. Your Coinepay payout arrives as a normal incoming amount and needs no such approval.
