You can create a Gelato account without a subscription fee, then pay for product orders or choose a paid Gelato+ subscription. This guide explains where to enter a Coinepay virtual card, how Gelato charges sellers, and what to check if a payment is declined. Card acceptance is subject to Gelato’s checkout and payment checks.

What you need before paying

  • A Gelato account: Sign up at gelato.com using Google, Facebook, Apple, or email. Use your real identity, company information where applicable, and accurate billing details.
  • A Coinepay virtual card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Coinepay provides the card number, expiry date, and CVV in its app or self-service dashboard.
  • Enough available funds: Allow for the amount displayed at Gelato checkout, including any applicable taxes, product costs, and shipping. If you run an integrated store, future customer orders can create separate Gelato charges.
  • Card eligibility: Gelato lists personal and corporate credit and debit cards among its supported card categories. It excludes Maestro co-branded Mastercard, and debit cards must support online recurring payments. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Gelato’s relevant requirements before you buy; do not assume it does.

Gelato’s current public plans are FREE, Gelato+, and Platinum. FREE has no subscription fee, but you still pay for products and shipping when you place orders. At the time of writing (October 2026), Gelato lists Gelato+ at USD $29.99 monthly or USD $239.88 paid upfront for an annual term; Platinum has custom pricing. Prices vary by currency, and applicable taxes may be added. Check Gelato’s official pricing page and the amount shown at checkout before confirming.

Step 1: Create your Gelato account

  1. Go to gelato.com and start the free-account sign-up.
  2. Continue with Google, Facebook, Apple, or email, then complete the account details Gelato requests.
  3. Decide whether FREE meets your needs or whether you want to review Gelato+. You do not need to buy Gelato+ simply to have an account, but Gelato says you need a valid payment method before it can process orders.

If you sell through an integrated store, keep the two payments separate in your records: your shopper pays your store, while Gelato charges you for production and shipping. Your store’s customer payment does not automatically pay your Gelato bill.

Step 2: Pay for Gelato+ with your card

  1. In Gelato, select Gelato+ and choose monthly or annual billing. Review the price, billing currency, taxes, and renewal terms shown for your account.
  2. Complete the company and billing details requested during sign-up. Enter your real billing information and ensure it matches the details associated with your payment method.
  3. At the payment step, select the card option and enter the Coinepay card number, expiry date, and CVV exactly as displayed in Coinepay. Review the checkout summary before submitting.
  4. If Gelato offers you its 14-day Gelato+ trial, choose “Start trial” if you want to use it. Gelato allows one such trial per account. Selecting “Activate now to apply discounts” instead skips the trial and charges immediately.
  5. Complete any payment verification requested during checkout, then check your subscription status in Gelato under initials → Subscriptions.

A trial is not the same as a permanently free plan. Check the displayed renewal details and keep sufficient funds available if you intend to continue after the trial. Paid Gelato+ subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled. Gelato also lists PayPal for subscriptions, but the order-payment options shown elsewhere in its help center should not be treated as a list of subscription options.

Step 3: Add a card for Gelato product orders

If you plan to pay for production and shipping, open your Gelato account menu and go to initials → Billing → Payment → Methods to add or manage a stored card for orders. Enter the card details carefully and follow Gelato’s prompts. This order-card setting is distinct from initials → Subscriptions, where you manage subscription status and renewal payment details. Check both areas if you want the same card used for both purposes.

Gelato charges a manual Dashboard order when you place it. An order pending approval is not charged until you approve it for production. For an integrated store, Gelato separately bills you for its production and shipping costs after your customer pays your store. Review the amount and order status in Gelato rather than assuming that a paid customer order means Gelato has already received payment.

What to do if Gelato declines the card

A decline does not by itself identify the cause. Gelato documents “Refused” for order payments; its listed possibilities include insufficient funds, spending limits, incorrect details, failed 3-D Secure verification, international-transaction restrictions, and issuer security blocks. Work through these checks without repeatedly submitting an unchanged payment:

  • Insufficient balance or a spending limit: Compare the available card funds with the full amount Gelato is attempting to charge. Include shipping and any taxes shown. For a subscription, check whether you selected monthly billing, an upfront annual payment, or immediate activation instead of a trial. Check any applicable card controls in Coinepay and contact support if a limit or decline reason is unclear.
  • Billing-address mismatch: Recheck the card number, expiry, CVV, and the real billing name and address entered with Gelato. Correct genuine mistakes; do not substitute an address from another region to force a payment through.
  • 3-D Secure verification: If checkout asks you to authenticate, complete the prompt rather than closing it or letting it expire. If no prompt appears or verification fails, retry only after checking your connection and the instructions shown, then ask Coinepay support whether it can identify the failed authentication.
  • Merchant or region checks: Gelato or a payment provider may apply checks to the card, billing currency, or transaction region. Confirm that your real account and billing details are accurate, and ask Gelato what requirement applies. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before trying again. Do not try to bypass a regional restriction.

For subscription payments, Gelato also documents “Could not find an acquirer account for the provided currency”. Gelato suggests trying USD as the billing currency or another eligible card; change currency only through Gelato’s normal settings and review the resulting price before paying. Gelato reports a “FRAUD” message in some American Express cases and recommends checking the billing address. Neither message establishes the cause of a decline on your particular card. If the checks above do not resolve it, contact Gelato about its checkout message and Coinepay support about the card transaction.

Manage renewals, invoices, and order charges

To review a Gelato+ subscription or update its renewal payment details, use initials → Subscriptions. Subscription invoices are under Billing → Subscription Billing History. To stop renewal, follow Subscriptions → Manage subscription → Cancel subscription before the next charge and read the confirmation for the date your access ends.

Gelato’s terms describe Gelato+ subscription fees as non-refundable, although its help center offers a chat-assistant route to request a refund of the latest charge. A request does not guarantee approval. Product-order cancellation follows different rules: Gelato documents a full refund before printing, a shipping-only refund once an order is In Production, and no cancellation once it is Printed. Check an order’s status before assuming you can reverse its charge.

Finally, do not mistake Gelato+ discount eligibility for account or card eligibility. Gelato says its product discounts depend on the offer and delivery destination; its listed destinations include the US, Canada, UK, Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, Spain, Australia, Norway, and Denmark. Confirm any discount on the order itself rather than assuming a subscription applies it to every destination.

What should I check if Gelato says “Refused”?

Check available funds, spending limits, card and billing details, and any 3-D Secure prompt. Gelato also lists international-transaction restrictions and issuer security blocks as possible causes.

Yes. In Gelato, use Subscriptions → Manage subscription → Cancel subscription before renewal, and check the confirmation for when access ends.
