Amazon Merch on Demand (formerly Merch by Amazon) is a print-on-demand creator program. One detail trips people up at the payment stage: there is no paid Merch subscription to buy. Creating a Merch creator account is free, and the royalty groups you may have read about (Creator, Plus and Premium in the US store) are performance tiers, not purchasable plans. So when a card is involved, it is almost always because you are buying a Merch product through Amazon's ordinary shopping-cart checkout, or because you want to keep a card on file for other Amazon purchases. This guide covers both and shows how to use a Coinepay virtual card cleanly.
What you need before you start
To pay for a Merch on Demand product on Amazon with a Coinepay virtual card, make sure you have:
- A registered Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can create an account first if you have not.
- A Coinepay virtual card issued in the app, with its card number, expiry date and CVV visible. These appear instantly in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app (iOS / Android).
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the product price, applicable tax and any shipping.
- Your real billing address, exactly as it is registered with Coinepay. Amazon checks billing details, so use your genuine information.
- An Amazon customer account in the marketplace you are buying from (for example Amazon.com, .co.uk, .de, .it, .es, .fr or .co.jp).
Merch products get normal Amazon product pages and are bought at Amazon's regular checkout. There is no separate "Merch subscription" to pay for, so if a page is asking you to subscribe or pay a membership fee for Merch itself, stop and double-check what you are looking at.
Step 1: Create your free Merch creator account (no payment)
If your goal is to become a seller, go to Amazon's Merch on Demand sign-up request and submit the information Amazon asks for. Registration is an application, not a paid checkout, so you will not be charged to apply. Approval and the exact form fields are controlled by Amazon and can change, so follow the on-screen instructions there. A virtual card is not used to open a creator account; a card only comes into play when you buy products.
Step 2: Add your Coinepay card to Amazon
You can save your card before you shop, or add it during checkout. To save it in advance:
- Sign in to Amazon and open Your Account → Your Payments.
- Choose to add a payment method and enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Enter your billing address exactly as it appears in your Coinepay profile.
- Save the card. You can edit or remove it later from the same Your Payments screen.
Note that changing a saved card does not update an order that is already placed. If you need a different card on an open order, edit the order's payment method directly, not just your saved cards list.
Step 3: Buy the Merch product at checkout
- Open the Merch product's Amazon listing, pick the size, colour and quantity, and add it to your cart.
- Go to checkout and confirm the shipping address.
- Under payment method, select your Coinepay virtual card (or add it now if you skipped Step 2).
- Review the order total, including tax and shipping, and make sure your Coinepay card has at least that amount available.
- Place the order. If your card issuer requests a security confirmation, approve it (see 3-D Secure below).
Amazon's Amazon Pay documentation lists credit and debit cards and names networks such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Diners Club and JCB. That is general Amazon guidance and does not guarantee that any specific card is accepted for every Merch purchase in every marketplace. If you are unsure whether your Coinepay card meets a particular requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.
Troubleshooting: why a card gets declined
Amazon identifies several common reasons a card payment can fail. Work through these in order.
Insufficient balance or reserved funds
Check that your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the full total, including tax and shipping. Remember that a recent authorization can temporarily reserve funds, lowering what is available. Top up the card in the Coinepay app and retry.
Billing address or expiry mismatch
A changed billing address, a mistyped number or an out-of-date expiry are frequent causes. In Your Payments, confirm the card number, expiry and billing address match your Coinepay details exactly. Even a wrong postcode can trigger a decline.
Issuer security check (3-D Secure)
Amazon may route the payment through your issuer's security check. Watch for a confirmation prompt or notification from Coinepay and approve the transaction promptly. If you miss it, the order can be declined and you will need to retry.
Purchase limits
Per-transaction or spending limits can block an order. Check any limit you set on the card in the Coinepay app and adjust it if appropriate, then place the order again.
Merchant and region checks
Amazon runs Merch listings in a defined set of marketplaces: Amazon.com, .co.jp, .co.uk, .de, .it, .es and .fr. Make sure you are checking out in a marketplace that ships to your real address, and use your genuine billing country. Do not try to disguise your location to get around a regional restriction. If a payment keeps failing and your details are correct, Amazon says the card issuer may need to explain the decline, so also reach out to Coinepay support to check for anything on the card side.
Refunds and returns
On Amazon.com, most eligible items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, but products customised specifically for a buyer may be nonreturnable. Because Merch items are printed on demand, check the individual listing or your order to see whether that item is returnable. If a nonreturnable item arrives damaged, defective or materially different from its description, Amazon directs you to its customer service. Once Amazon issues a refund, its US policy lists roughly 3–5 business days for a credit card and up to 10 business days for a debit card for the credit to appear; those windows start after the refund is approved, not when you request it. Any refund returns to the same Coinepay card used for the purchase.
A note on creator payouts
If you are a Merch creator, royalty payouts are a separate flow from buying products and are paid to a bank account, not to a card. One seller reported a payout email citing "invalid bank information," which points to the importance of entering accurate payout details in your Merch account. Follow Amazon's own Merch payout settings for this; do not copy Seller Central or Amazon Pay merchant settings, as those are different programs.

FAQ
Does Merch by Amazon charge a subscription I pay with a card?
No. A Merch on Demand creator account is free and there is no paid Merch subscription. A card is used only when you buy a Merch product through Amazon's normal checkout, or to keep a card on file for other Amazon purchases.
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to buy Merch on Demand products?
Yes, you add it in Your Account → Your Payments or at checkout and pay like any Amazon order. Amazon's acceptance of a specific card can vary by marketplace, so contact Coinepay support if you want to confirm your card meets a requirement before buying.
Why was my card declined at Amazon checkout?
Common causes are insufficient or reserved funds, a billing address or expiry mismatch, an unanswered issuer security check, a purchase limit, or a region check. Verify your card details and balance in the Coinepay app, approve any 3-D Secure prompt, then retry.
Will a refund go back to my Coinepay card?
Yes. Amazon returns refunds to the card used for the order. After a refund is issued, Amazon's US policy lists about 3–5 business days for a credit card and up to 10 business days for a debit card for the credit to appear.
Can I use a card to receive Merch creator royalties?
No. Creator royalties are paid to a bank account through Merch's own payout settings, not to a card. Enter accurate bank details to avoid payout failures, and do not reuse Seller Central or Amazon Pay settings for your Merch account.
