You can start using Modalyst’s Hobby Plan without a card, then choose a paid plan when your store needs more product capacity. This guide walks through Modalyst sign-up, plan checkout, and how to try a Coinepay virtual card if the subscription checkout offers a suitable card-payment option. It also covers what to check if a payment is declined.

What you need before you start

  • A Modalyst retailer account: Sign up using your legal full name and a valid email address. You can begin on the Hobby Plan without entering a card and connect a Shopify or Wix store.
  • A Coinepay account and virtual card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Once your card is issued, its number, expiry date, and CVV are available for online checkout in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard.
  • Enough funds for the charge: Check your available balance against the amount shown at Modalyst checkout, particularly if you choose annual billing, which is charged upfront.
  • Accurate billing information: Use your real name and billing details. Have the billing address associated with your payment details ready, and enter it consistently if Modalyst requests it.

Check that Modalyst is available in your location before paying. Modalyst says sanctions restrictions can prevent a country from appearing during registration, and its terms prohibit use from US-embargoed countries or regions and by specified sanctioned parties. Do not change your location or identity to bypass an eligibility or payment check. Coinepay services are also subject to jurisdictional availability.

Choose the right Modalyst plan and billing schedule

Modalyst lists three retailer tiers. At the time of writing (October 2026), its public USD prices and product limits are as follows. These are published prices, not a quote for your checkout; check Modalyst’s official pricing page and the amount displayed before you submit payment.

PlanProduct limitMonthly billingAnnual billing
Hobby Plan25 products$0Free
Start-Up Plan250 products$35 per month$360 upfront per year
Pro PlanUnlimited products$90 per month$804 upfront per year

At the time of writing (October 2026), Modalyst’s help center also lists a 5% transaction fee on the retail value of orders for each tier. Account for that separately from your subscription when planning store costs. Annual billing is one yearly charge, not a series of monthly payments; review the billing schedule carefully before confirming.

A paid plan increases the number of products you can list, but the plan charge is not the same as paying a supplier for an order. Keep those two checkouts separate when deciding how much to make available on your card.

How to sign up and pay for a Modalyst plan

  1. Create your Modalyst retailer account. Go to Modalyst’s official site and follow its retailer sign-up prompts. Enter your real legal name and valid email. You may start on the Hobby Plan without a card, then connect your Shopify or Wix store as directed in Modalyst.
  2. Set up your Coinepay card. Complete Coinepay registration and identity verification. Open the iOS app, Android app, or self-service dashboard to view your issued virtual card’s number, expiry date, and CVV. Check the available funds before starting checkout.
  3. Open the plan controls. Log in to Modalyst, open the account or name menu, and select Manage Your Plan. Choose the Start-Up Plan or Pro Plan and select monthly or annual billing. You can compare the plan details there before committing.
  4. Review the checkout. Modalyst’s plan flow asks for billing information and a checkout submission. Read the amount, billing interval, and any payment-method requirements displayed on your checkout screen. Do not assume that a payment option shown for supplier orders is also available for subscriptions.
  5. Enter your card details if eligible. If the subscription checkout offers a card option compatible with your card, enter the Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date, and CVV, along with your real billing details. Follow any authentication prompt presented during checkout. If Modalyst specifies a card-type or issuing-country requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy.
  6. Submit once and verify the result. After submitting the form, check Modalyst for the updated plan and review the payment status in Coinepay. Modalyst says plan changes take effect immediately. If the page is unclear, check your account before trying again so you do not submit an unnecessary second payment.

Modalyst’s published supplier-order instructions describe a credit/debit card or PayPal choice for eligible marketplace orders, but that instruction concerns orders, not plan subscriptions. If you are paying a supplier rather than changing your plan, the documented path is Orders → Pay Now, where you review itemized product and shipping costs before choosing an offered payment method. AliExpress and Alibaba orders can follow different flows.

What to check if your card payment is declined

A decline does not, by itself, identify the cause. Check any message on the Modalyst checkout and the transaction information available in Coinepay; do not treat a generic decline as proof of a particular Modalyst rule. Work through these checks before retrying:

  • Insufficient available funds: Compare your card’s available balance with the full checkout amount. For an annual Start-Up or Pro subscription, expect the annual amount to be due upfront rather than the monthly equivalent. Use the amount displayed at checkout when deciding whether you have enough funds.
  • Billing-detail mismatch: Recheck the card number, expiry date, CVV, name, and any requested billing address for typing errors. Use your actual billing information; an invented address can create more payment and account problems.
  • Authentication or 3-D Secure step: If checkout displays a verification challenge, complete it as instructed. If it times out or fails, check for a fresh prompt and retry only after confirming that the original payment did not complete. Contact Coinepay support if you need help understanding a card-side authentication failure; contact Modalyst if its checkout cannot proceed.
  • Merchant region or card checks: A merchant may apply location, card-type, or other payment rules. If Modalyst displays a specific requirement, do not assume your Coinepay card satisfies it; ask Coinepay support to confirm the relevant card details before buying. If your country is unavailable at Modalyst registration, contact Modalyst rather than trying to work around the restriction.

If you have corrected an error and the charge still fails, send Modalyst the checkout message and the time of your attempt, without sharing your full card number or CVV. Coinepay support can help you review what happened on the card side. Avoid repeated submissions while a payment or plan change is still unclear.

Manage your payment details or cancel a paid plan

For a billing-detail update, Modalyst instructs users to email [email protected] with the subject “Update Billing Information”. Modalyst says it will send a unique link for editing those details. Do not send your full card number or CVV in an email. You can manage your Coinepay card through its app or self-service dashboard.

To end a paid Modalyst subscription, open Manage Your Plan and select the Hobby Plan. Modalyst says the downgrade applies immediately; uninstalling its store app alone does not cancel billing. Review the consequences first: Modalyst’s terms say items are removed from the store on cancellation or downgrade, account content is permanently deleted within 90 days, and mid-cycle plan changes are not prorated. Reactivating a paid tier incurs a new charge.

If you believe a subscription charge warrants a refund, contact Modalyst at [email protected]. Modalyst handles requests case by case, so a refund or credit should not be assumed. Keep your plan, billing, and payment records available when explaining the issue.
