To send money from abroad to a FriMi account in Sri Lanka, first check whether FriMi is available as a payout method for your transfer in Coinepay Global Remittance. You will need the recipient’s registered FriMi mobile number or FriMi ID, plus their full name exactly as registered. Review the recipient details, exchange rate and fees in the app before you confirm.
What is FriMi, and where is it used?
FriMi is a Sri Lankan app from Nations Trust Bank PLC with bank-account and mobile-wallet functions. It is used in Sri Lanka, where the local currency is the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). When setting up a transfer in Coinepay, select Sri Lanka as the destination and check the payout currency shown in the app. The currencies and payout methods available for your particular transfer are displayed before you confirm it.
A transfer to a FriMi account is different from FriMi’s own Send Money feature. Within FriMi, Send Money lets an existing FriMi user pay another FriMi user by registered mobile number or FriMi ID. It does not mean that any phone number is a FriMi account, or that the payment will reach a different mobile-wallet provider. FriMi also has a separate Cash Token feature for cash withdrawal; a Cash Token is not a deposit into the recipient’s FriMi balance.
What details should you ask the recipient for?
Ask the recipient to check their FriMi app and send you:
- The mobile number registered with FriMi or their FriMi ID. Use whichever identifier the payout form requests. If it asks for a phone number, confirm that the number is registered to the account that should receive the money.
- Their full name exactly as registered with FriMi. Confirm the spelling and order of names rather than relying on a nickname or a saved contact label.
- Confirmation that the account is active and able to receive the payment. The recipient can check their account status and any applicable limits in FriMi before you send.
Copy the identifier carefully. A mistyped number could point to another person’s registered account, while a number that is not registered may not qualify for a FriMi-account payout. FriMi warns users of its own Send Money feature that a payment to a number belonging to another FriMi user goes to that account immediately. Although that is FriMi’s in-app flow rather than a statement about Coinepay transfers, it is a reason to verify the number directly with your recipient before confirming.
How to send money to FriMi with Coinepay
- Open Coinepay Global Remittance. Sign in through the Coinepay dashboard or the iOS app or Android app. If you are new, register and complete the identity verification requested for your transfer.
- Choose Sri Lanka as the destination. Enter the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive, according to the fields shown. Check the payout currency in the quote.
- Select the FriMi payout method if it appears. Choose the option identified for FriMi rather than assuming a generic mobile-wallet option will reach it. If FriMi is not listed, do not substitute another wallet or a Cash Token. Check whether an appropriate bank-account deposit option is offered for the recipient’s account, or contact Coinepay support to confirm the available route before paying.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Provide their registered mobile number or FriMi ID as requested, and their full registered name. Check every digit and letter against the details the recipient supplied. If the form asks for additional information, follow its prompts rather than entering a different type of account identifier.
- Review the quote and recipient. The Coinepay app shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Check the amount, destination, payout method, recipient name and identifier. Return to the form to correct any mistake before proceeding.
- Confirm and track the transfer. Submit only after the details are correct. Open the transfer’s status in Coinepay to follow its progress and keep its reference information in case you need help.
Available payout options can depend on the destination and the transfer details. If the app does not offer a FriMi payout for this transfer, do not describe another route as equivalent without confirming that the recipient can actually receive it.
How will the recipient know the money arrived?
Ask the recipient to sign in to FriMi and check the relevant account balance and transaction history for the incoming payment. They should match the received amount and transaction details to what you sent, rather than relying only on a notification. Notification availability can depend on their app and account settings.
FriMi users sending money within FriMi can use the app’s Quick access menu, choose Send, select a registered contact, enter the amount and confirm. That is a separate flow from receiving an international Coinepay transfer; the recipient does not need to initiate a FriMi Send Money payment to you to receive one.
Keep tracking the transfer in Coinepay until its status reflects completion. Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual delivery time depends on the payout method and destination country. If Coinepay shows the transfer as complete but the recipient cannot find it, check that they are looking at the intended FriMi account, then contact Coinepay support with the transfer reference. The recipient may also need to ask FriMi about their account history.
Check the recipient’s account status and limits
The recipient’s ability to receive and hold money can depend on their account status, verification level and applicable transaction or balance limits. These are not the same thing as a Coinepay transfer limit. FriMi says verified users can view and adjust applicable transaction limits under Transaction Settings, subject to the app’s maximums. Ask the recipient to check their own settings or contact FriMi if they are unsure which restriction applies.
Sri Lankan e-money rules distinguish between basic accounts and accounts with enhanced identity verification, with different permitted held balances. Those general e-money categories should not be treated as a statement of the recipient’s particular FriMi limit. Before sending an amount that might bring their account near a restriction, ask them to confirm their current receiving eligibility and available capacity in FriMi. Do not split a transfer to work around a limit or a verification requirement.
Troubleshooting a FriMi transfer
Wrong mobile number or FriMi ID
If you have not confirmed the transfer, edit the identifier and check it with the recipient. If you have already confirmed, open its status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference and the correct details. Do not assume a completed payment can be recalled. The recipient should not try to claim a payment sent to someone else’s account.
Recipient name does not match
Ask the recipient for the full name recorded on their FriMi account and compare it with your entry, including spelling. Correct the name before confirmation. If a transfer is already pending or has been held, contact support rather than starting a second payment without checking the first one’s status.
Wallet limit reached or account not fully verified
Have the recipient review their FriMi account status and Transaction Settings. A restriction may relate to an applicable transaction limit, verification requirement or permitted balance. The recipient should complete any legitimate verification FriMi requests and confirm when their account can receive the payment. If Coinepay reports that the payout cannot be made, use its transfer status and support channel to find out what happens next; do not presume when funds will be returned.
Transfer is under compliance review
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents showing the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds. Respond through the requested channel with accurate information, and monitor the transfer’s status. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions; do not use another person’s account to evade a review.
If you need help identifying the correct payout option or resolving a transfer, use the details shown in the Coinepay app and contact support before sending again.

You need the recipient’s registered FriMi mobile number or FriMi ID, depending on the payout form, and their full name exactly as registered. Confirm the identifier with the recipient before paying.
What if FriMi does not appear as a payout option?
Do not select another wallet or a Cash Token as a substitute. Check for a suitable bank-account deposit option or contact Coinepay support to confirm the available route.
Where does the recipient check for the payment?
They should sign in to FriMi and review the relevant account balance and transaction history. You can track the transfer’s status in Coinepay.
