Lydia is a popular mobile money app in France and the wider euro area. If you need to get money to a friend, family member or supplier who uses Lydia, you can send a cross-border transfer with Coinepay Global Remittance and have it credited to the euro account behind their Lydia profile. This guide explains which country and currency Lydia uses, what details to collect from your recipient, and how to complete and track the transfer.
Where Lydia works and in which currency
Lydia is a euro-denominated service. According to Lydia's own help pages, transfers can reach a person who holds a euro account at a payment provider in the SEPA zone, and opening a Lydia account requires a phone number with one of Lydia's listed European country codes. Those codes do not include +1, so a US or Canadian mobile number cannot register a Lydia account.
Because Lydia is a euro wallet, a cross-border payout to a Lydia user is normally made as a euro bank deposit to the account linked to their Lydia profile. When you set up your transfer in Coinepay, you choose France (or the recipient's SEPA country) as the destination, select EUR as the payout currency, and send to the recipient's euro account. The estimated arrival time and the exact payout options for your destination are shown in the Coinepay app before you confirm.
What you need from your recipient
Collect these details from the person receiving the money, exactly as they appear on their Lydia and bank records:
- Full legal name as registered with Lydia and their bank. Spelling must match; a mismatch is a common reason transfers are delayed.
- Euro IBAN of the account connected to their Lydia profile (Lydia lets users view and transfer to their bank account without a fee).
- The registered phone number or email they use with Lydia, which is useful for confirming their account identity.
- Their country and city, in case Coinepay needs it for the payout form.
Lydia's in-app "Send a Lydia" feature is designed for existing Lydia users sending to each other by phone number, email or QR code. As a sender abroad using Coinepay, you are not sending inside Lydia, so you send to the recipient's euro account details rather than into the Lydia peer-to-peer flow.
Before you start
Download the Coinepay app from the App Store or Google Play, then create your account and complete identity verification (KYC). You must use your own real identity and real details. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations, and Coinepay may ask for documents such as the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.
Step by step: send to a Lydia account
- Open Coinepay and start a new transfer. Go to Global Remittance in the dashboard or mobile app.
- Choose the destination. Select France (or the recipient's SEPA country) and EUR as the payout currency.
- Select the payout method. Pick the bank deposit option for a euro account, which is how funds reach the account behind a Lydia profile. If Coinepay lists a dedicated wallet option for your destination, follow the on-screen prompts.
- Enter the recipient's details. Type the full name exactly as registered and the euro IBAN. Double-check every character.
- Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the rate, any fees and the amount your recipient will receive before you confirm. Review the estimated arrival time shown on the same screen.
- Confirm the transfer. Approve the payment. If Coinepay requests the purpose or source of funds, provide it so the transfer is not held for review.
- Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app, from submitted through to delivered. You'll see updates as the payout progresses.
How fast will it arrive? Coinepay transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country. The estimate for your specific transfer is displayed before you confirm.
How your recipient sees the money arrive
Once the euro deposit reaches the account connected to their Lydia profile, the recipient can view the balance in Lydia and use it for another Lydia payment or move it to their bank account. If the money is sent to a Lydia user whose profile is not yet verified, Lydia requires them to verify their profile to receive funds in the wallet, or to use Lydia's secure webpage to select a bank account. A person who is not a Lydia user receives a link by SMS or email to choose a bank account.
Recipient wallet limits and verification levels
Lydia applies receiving and balance caps to unverified profiles. Lydia's own documentation describes limits on how much an unverified account can receive over a rolling 30-day period and on the balance it can hold, after which the user must complete verification to lift them. Lydia also notes it may apply additional or stricter security and compliance limits.
If your recipient has declared "US Person" status with Lydia, their combined Lydia and Sumeria balances cannot exceed a set ceiling, and an incoming payment that would push the balance over that amount is rejected. If you expect your transfer to be affected, ask your recipient to confirm their verification level and available headroom before you send. Lydia's published pricing-and-limits annex (in effect since 1 May 2026) and amount-restriction pages hold the current figures; the French text prevails over the English translation.
Troubleshooting
Wrong phone number or account entered
Since you send to a euro IBAN, re-check the IBAN digit by digit before confirming. If a payment has already been sent to the wrong details, contact Coinepay support immediately with your transfer reference. Do not assume a completed payment can simply be edited or reversed.
Name mismatch
If the name you entered does not match the recipient's bank or Lydia records, the payout can be rejected or returned. Confirm the exact legal name and re-enter it precisely.
Wallet limit reached
If the recipient's balance or 30-day receiving cap is full, the funds may not land until they free up room or complete a higher verification level. Ask them to check their limits in Lydia.
Unverified wallet
An unverified Lydia profile must be verified to receive into the wallet, or the recipient can select a bank account on Lydia's secure page. If no action is taken, Lydia may cancel and refund the payment after a set period.
Payment not received
Ask the recipient to check their Lydia history, their email (including spam) and their bank statement. In Coinepay, open the transfer to see its current status. If it shows delivered but the recipient cannot find it, contact Coinepay support.
Compliance review
A transfer may be paused for identity verification or sanctions screening. Respond promptly to any request for documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Never split a transfer, use a third party, or attempt to work around checks.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to someone on Lydia?
You need the recipient's full legal name exactly as registered and the euro IBAN of the account linked to their Lydia profile. Their registered phone number or email helps confirm their account identity.
Can I send to a Lydia account from the United States?
Lydia accounts require a European country-code phone number and a euro account in the SEPA zone. You can send from abroad, but the recipient must hold a valid euro account behind their Lydia profile. Check payout options for your destination in the Coinepay app.
How fast will the money reach a Lydia user?
Coinepay transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Coinepay shows the estimated arrival time before you confirm.
What happens if the recipient's Lydia account is not verified?
Lydia requires an unverified user to verify their profile to receive funds in the wallet, or to select a bank account on Lydia's secure webpage. If no action is taken within the period Lydia sets, the payment may be cancelled and refunded.
I sent to the wrong details. Can Coinepay reverse it?
Contact Coinepay support immediately with your transfer reference. A completed payment cannot simply be edited or reversed, so recovery depends on the status and the receiving institution.
