PromptPay is Thailand’s payment system for transfers to accounts linked to identifiers such as mobile numbers and e-wallet IDs. If a PromptPay payout option is available for your transfer in Coinepay Global Remittance, you can send money from abroad for the recipient to receive in Thai baht. Before you start, confirm which account the recipient has linked: a transfer addressed to their phone number does not necessarily go to their mobile wallet.
What you need before sending
Ask the recipient to check their bank or wallet app and give you the details for the account they intend to use. You will need:
- The registered PromptPay identifier: the mobile number or account ID supported by the payout option shown in Coinepay. PromptPay also supports other identifiers, but you should use only a type that both the recipient’s provider and the available transfer form accept.
- The recipient’s full name: enter it exactly as registered with their receiving bank or wallet. Ask the recipient to confirm spelling and name order rather than relying on a nickname or contact-list entry.
- The receiving account type: establish whether the identifier is linked to a bank account or to a supported e-money wallet. If the recipient wants money in a wallet, ask them to confirm that their wallet supports PromptPay receipt through the identifier they provide.
The recipient must link their identifier to an eligible receiving account before it can receive a PromptPay transfer. A mobile number can be linked to only one receiving account at a time. If someone has both a bank account and a wallet, do not assume that entering the phone number will credit the wallet. The recipient should check the linked account in their provider’s app before you send.
Follow the number or ID format requested on the Coinepay transfer form. PromptPay QR codes have their own identifier formats, but those formats are not instructions to add a prefix to every number entered in a remittance app. Do not change the recipient’s details to make a form accept them; ask the recipient or Coinepay support which identifier the available payout option requires.
How to send to a PromptPay-linked account
- Sign in and start a transfer. Open the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard and select Global Remittance. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete the required identity verification first.
- Choose Thailand as the destination. Check the available payout methods for your transfer. If a PromptPay option appears, select it and read the form’s description to see whether it accepts a registered mobile number or another supported account ID. Do not select a different payout route on the assumption that it will reach the same wallet.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Type the identifier in the format the form requests and enter the recipient’s full registered name. Check every digit with the recipient. If the form displays a receiving account or recipient name for review, compare it with what the recipient provided.
- Enter the amount and review the quote. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Check the sending amount, the Thai-baht receiving amount shown, the payout method and all recipient details. If something does not match, go back and correct it before proceeding.
- Confirm and keep the transfer record. Submit only when the details are correct. Save the confirmation or reference shown in Coinepay; it will help if you need to ask about the transfer.
- Track the status. Use Coinepay’s transfer status tracking in the app or dashboard. A transfer marked pending is not proof that the recipient has received the money. Ask them to check the linked bank account or wallet once the status indicates the payout has been completed.
If PromptPay is not offered for the destination and account type you selected, do not substitute an unrelated method. Coinepay also supports bank deposits, mobile-wallet payouts and cash pickup where available. Check the options shown for your transfer or contact support to identify an appropriate route for the recipient.
How the recipient sees the money arrive
PromptPay routes a Thai-baht payment to the account linked to the identifier used for that transfer. If the recipient linked their mobile number to a bank account, they should check that bank account’s activity. If their provider supports receiving PromptPay payments into an e-money wallet through the selected identifier, they should check the wallet balance and transaction history. A notification may depend on the receiving provider’s settings, so the account record is a better place to verify receipt.
The recipient does not have to register your phone number for PromptPay. They do need an eligible, correctly linked receiving identifier. If they recently changed phones, closed a wallet or moved their mobile number from one receiving account to another, ask them to verify the current link before you initiate a transfer. For example, TrueMoney’s terms describe an e-wallet ID tied to an account with advanced identity verification; that is a provider-specific condition, not a rule that every PromptPay-linked account is a wallet.
Check wallet verification and receiving limits
A recipient’s ability to receive into a wallet depends on its provider’s PromptPay support, verification requirements and account conditions. Wallet providers may apply different permissions or receiving limits at different verification levels. Ask the recipient to check their own provider’s app or support information for the account they plan to use, especially if they have not completed its identity checks or expect the payment to approach a wallet limit.
There is no single receipt limit that applies to every PromptPay-linked wallet. Thai banks also apply their own transfer controls, but those sender-side controls should not be treated as the recipient wallet’s limit. Do not split a transfer to get around a limit or verification requirement. If the intended wallet cannot receive the payment, ask the recipient which eligible account they can use and check whether an appropriate payout method is available before confirming anything.
Troubleshooting PromptPay transfers
Wrong number or account ID
If you have not confirmed the transfer, stop and ask the recipient to verify the identifier in their receiving app. A number or ID that is not registered for PromptPay cannot receive a transfer addressed to it. A mobile number already linked to another account must be unlinked there before the recipient can link it to a different one. If you already confirmed a transfer to the wrong identifier, save the transfer record and contact Coinepay support promptly. Do not assume a completed payment can be reversed automatically.
Name mismatch
If the name you entered differs from the recipient’s registered name, pause before confirmation. Ask for the full name as recorded by the bank or wallet, including the correct order and spelling. If Coinepay displays recipient information that does not match the person you intend to pay, do not proceed. Contact support if you cannot resolve the discrepancy with the recipient.
Wallet limit reached or wallet unverified
Ask the recipient to check their wallet’s account status, verification level and incoming-payment rules with its provider. Completing a required verification step or choosing another eligible account may resolve the issue. Do not try another person’s wallet or break the payment into smaller transfers to bypass a restriction. If the recipient changes their receiving account, start by confirming the new identifier and full registered name.
Compliance review or pending status
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds. Respond through the requested channel and keep tracking the transfer; a pending status does not mean the money has arrived. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. If you need help understanding a request or status, contact support with your transfer reference.

FAQ
Does a PromptPay transfer to a phone number go to a mobile wallet?
Not necessarily. It goes to the eligible account linked to that number, which may be a bank account. Ask the recipient to check the link before you send.
What recipient details do I need?
Get the registered mobile number or account ID accepted by the available payout option, plus the recipient’s full name exactly as registered with their receiving provider.
What if PromptPay does not appear as a payout option?
Do not select another method assuming it reaches the same account. Check the available Thailand payout options in Coinepay or contact support.
How can the recipient confirm the money arrived?
They should check the transaction history and balance of the bank account or supported wallet linked to the identifier used. A pending sender status is not confirmation of receipt.
