Sending money to a Payphone account in Ecuador is different from sending it to any phone number. The recipient needs an active Payphone account, and you should first check whether Payphone appears as a payout option for your transfer in Coinepay. This guide explains what to prepare, how to review the transfer before confirming, and what to do if the recipient cannot receive it.
Check the destination and payout option first
Payphone is used in Ecuador, where the relevant balance is denominated in US dollars (USD). Payphone calls its account balance saldo Payphone. A transfer intended for that balance must go to an active Payphone account, not merely to a person who has a mobile number in Ecuador.
In the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard, select Ecuador as the destination and inspect the payout methods offered for your particular transfer. Choose Payphone only if it is explicitly listed as an available payout method. Coinepay supports mobile-wallet payouts generally, but that does not establish that a particular wallet is available on every route. If Payphone is not listed, do not choose a different wallet or bank payout and assume the money will reach the recipient’s Payphone balance. Contact Coinepay support to ask about the available options.
Payphone also has its own in-app feature called “Enviar a contacto” (“Send to contact”) for sending available Payphone balance from a verified US Payphone account to a Payphone user in Ecuador. That is a Payphone-to-Payphone flow, not a step inside Coinepay. Do not use its instructions or eligibility rules as a substitute for the payout instructions displayed in Coinepay.
Get the recipient’s details before you start
Ask the recipient to open Payphone and confirm that their account is active. Collect the following details directly from them, rather than relying on an old contact entry:
- Their Payphone identifier: ask for the phone number registered to their account or their account ID. Enter whichever identifier the Coinepay payout form requests; do not assume the two fields are interchangeable. Follow the format shown in the form rather than guessing how to add a country code.
- Their full registered name: ask them to provide it exactly as it appears on their Payphone account, including the order and spelling of their names. Use their real details, not a nickname.
- Confirmation that they can receive funds: ask them to check for any verification prompt, account restriction or wallet-capacity notice in Payphone before you send.
Confirm these details with the recipient through a trusted channel. A mistyped number could identify the wrong person; a correct number paired with a different name may also prevent the payout from completing. If the Coinepay form asks for additional information, provide accurate information that matches the intended recipient. Do not replace a recipient’s details with someone else’s to get past a check.
Send to Payphone with Coinepay
- Sign in. Open the Coinepay mobile app or self-service dashboard. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete any identity checks requested for your transfer.
- Set the destination. Start a cross-border transfer and select Ecuador. Enter the amount you want to send, then review the payout methods shown for that destination.
- Select Payphone if offered. Choose the option that specifically identifies Payphone. If it is absent, stop and check with Coinepay support rather than selecting a different method for the same recipient details.
- Enter the recipient information. Use the registered phone number or account ID requested by the form and enter the recipient’s full name exactly as registered. Check each character against the details the recipient supplied.
- Review the transfer. Before confirming, check the destination, payout method, recipient, send amount, receive amount, exchange rate and fees shown in Coinepay. These are displayed before you confirm. Make sure the displayed payout matches what you and the recipient expect.
- Confirm and keep the reference. Complete the confirmation steps presented in the app. Save the transfer reference or confirmation screen so you can identify the transaction if you need help.
- Track its status. Open the transfer in Coinepay’s status tracking. Check its status before asking the recipient to look for the money, particularly if a review or additional document request appears.
Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual delivery time depends on the payout method and destination country. Use the estimated arrival time shown in Coinepay before confirmation as your guide for this transfer, rather than the timing of Payphone’s separate “Enviar a contacto” feature.
How the recipient checks for the money
If the payout completes to their Payphone account, the recipient should open Payphone and check their saldo Payphone and transaction or movement history for the incoming funds. Ask them to compare the transaction details with the amount shown on your Coinepay confirmation. A notification alone is not a substitute for checking the account balance or transaction record.
Receiving into Payphone and withdrawing from Payphone are separate actions. Payphone says recipients in Ecuador can transfer funds from their account to a bank account, but a bank withdrawal is not an automatic part of a wallet payout. The recipient should check Payphone for the withdrawal steps and any applicable conditions if they want the money in a bank account.
Payphone applies account and transaction conditions, and withdrawal limits are separate from limits on sending money. A recipient may need to complete verification or take account action before using certain functions. Because available capacity and requirements can depend on the account and transaction, the recipient should check the notices shown in their Payphone app rather than assuming that an active account can receive any amount.
Troubleshoot a failed or delayed payout
Wrong number or account ID
Check whether you entered the identifier requested by Coinepay and whether it matches the recipient’s active Payphone account. Payphone’s own app indicates when a selected contact is not an active user; having a phone number alone does not establish an eligible Payphone account. If you have already confirmed a transfer with incorrect details, check its Coinepay status and contact support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume it can be cancelled or reversed.
Name mismatch
Ask the recipient to read their full registered name directly from their account details, then compare it with the name you entered. If the transfer is still at a stage where Coinepay permits editing, correct it there; otherwise, ask support what to do. Do not alter a real name simply to make a validation message disappear.
Wallet limit or account restriction
If the recipient reports that their wallet limit has been reached, ask them to review the notice in Payphone and contact Payphone for account-specific guidance. Do not repeatedly submit the same payout or redirect it through another person’s account. Check your Coinepay transfer status as well: a payout that cannot be delivered may require action or instructions from support.
Unverified wallet
Have the recipient check whether Payphone is requesting identity verification or another account step. Payphone requires verification for its own US-to-Ecuador balance-send feature, but that sender requirement should not be mistaken for a universal rule describing every recipient or Coinepay payout. The recipient should follow the requirements displayed for their own Payphone account.
Compliance review or request for documents
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds. Respond through the channel indicated in the app, provide accurate documents, and keep the transfer reference handy. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions; do not attempt to route a payment through another person to avoid a review.
If Coinepay shows the transfer as complete but the recipient cannot find it, ask them to check the Payphone account associated with the identifier used in the payout. Then give Coinepay support the transfer reference and the relevant status, without posting account credentials or sensitive identity documents in a public message.

FAQ
Can I send to any Ecuadorian phone number through Payphone?
No. The intended recipient needs an active Payphone account. Select Payphone only if Coinepay lists it as a payout option for your transfer.
What recipient details do I need?
Get the recipient’s full name exactly as registered and their registered phone number or account ID. Enter the identifier requested by the Coinepay payout form.
Where does the recipient see the money?
They should check their saldo Payphone and transaction history in the Payphone app. A subsequent bank withdrawal is a separate action.
What if Payphone is not shown in Coinepay?
Do not substitute another payout method and assume it will reach Payphone. Contact Coinepay support to ask which options are available.
What should I do if I entered the wrong number?
Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with its reference. Do not assume a confirmed transfer can be cancelled or reversed.
