To send money from abroad to an IME Pay wallet in Nepal, start a cross-border transfer in Coinepay Global Remittance and check whether the wallet is offered as a payout method. IME Pay is an older name you may still see; the current wallet brand is Khalti by IME. Before confirming, verify the recipient’s registered details and review the exchange rate, fees and estimated arrival time shown in the Coinepay app.
Understand which wallet you are sending to
IME Pay is associated with Nepal, where wallet balances and local payments are denominated in Nepalese rupees (NPR). The current wallet brand is Khalti by IME, operated by IME Khalti Limited. Ask your recipient which app and registered mobile number they currently use, especially if they previously had an IME Pay account.
This guide covers an inbound remittance to a mobile wallet. It is not the recipient’s domestic Khalti Send/Request → Send feature, which is used to send money between Khalti users. It is also different from sending to a Nepalese bank account, arranging cash pickup or topping up mobile airtime. Select the actual wallet payout option shown in Coinepay rather than assuming these methods route to the same place.
Coinepay supports mobile-wallet payouts as part of Global Remittance, but available payout choices can depend on the transfer you are setting up. If IME Pay or Khalti by IME is not listed for your destination in the app, do not substitute another wallet brand or payout method. Contact Coinepay support to ask about the available options.
Get the recipient’s details before you start
Ask the recipient to read their details from their wallet account rather than from an old message or saved contact. You may need:
- The mobile number registered with their current wallet. Khalti’s documented wallet-to-wallet flow identifies a recipient by their registered mobile number; its help material does not specify a separate wallet-account-number format. If Coinepay’s selected payout form instead requests an account ID, ask the recipient to confirm the appropriate identifier from their wallet and follow the form’s instructions.
- The recipient’s full name exactly as registered. Preserve the spelling and order shown in their wallet profile or identity details. Do not enter a nickname or change the name to make it fit an expected format.
- Any other information requested in Coinepay. Provide the real purpose of the transfer and accurate sender and recipient details if prompted.
If the recipient previously used IME Pay, check whether they have merged their account into Khalti by IME. Khalti says a completed merge combines wallet balances and transfers KYC details, and the old IME Pay account can no longer be accessed afterward. Confirm the current receiving details with the recipient before sending to an identifier saved before the merge.
Send money to the wallet with Coinepay
- Open Global Remittance. Sign in to the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard and begin a new cross-border transfer. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete any identity checks required for your transfer.
- Choose the destination. Select Nepal, then check the payout methods offered for that transfer. Choose the IME Pay or Khalti by IME mobile-wallet option if it appears. The exact label may differ from the name your recipient uses.
- Enter the recipient’s information. Use their current registered mobile number, or the account identifier specifically requested by the payout form, and enter their full registered name. Check the number digit by digit before continuing.
- Enter the transfer details. Specify the amount and provide any requested transfer-purpose information truthfully. Check the payout currency displayed in the app; the recipient uses a wallet in Nepal, where the local currency is NPR.
- Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate, fees and estimated arrival time before you confirm. Also compare the recipient name, wallet details, amount and destination with what the recipient gave you. If a field is wrong, go back and correct it rather than confirming.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only after the review is accurate. Use its status tracking in Coinepay to follow progress, and keep the transfer reference available if you need help.
Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Use the estimate displayed for your particular transfer rather than treating that possibility as a promised arrival time.
How the recipient checks for the money
Ask the recipient to open their current wallet app and check the balance and transaction history under their registered account. They should look for the incoming payment and compare its details with the transfer information you shared. A Coinepay status update and the wallet’s displayed balance may not change at precisely the same moment, so check both records if the payment appears to be missing.
Khalti’s help information says that, for a fund-transfer request in its own app, the received amount may not appear until the recipient accepts that request. That describes a Khalti app flow, not a guaranteed step for every inbound remittance. If the recipient sees a request to accept funds, they should follow the instructions in their wallet; otherwise, they should not assume an acceptance step is required. Never ask them to share a password, PIN or one-time code with you to receive money.
Check wallet verification and capacity
Khalti says users must complete KYC before initiating transactions and requires accurate identity information. Ask the recipient to check their wallet’s verification status and follow any in-app identity prompts using their real details. A recipient whose account is unverified or needs an update may have to resolve that issue with Khalti before they can use the funds or complete a related wallet action.
Khalti publishes limits for its domestic wallet-to-wallet transfers, as well as a rule about the balance a wallet can retain overnight. Those rules are a reason to check whether the recipient’s wallet can accommodate a payment, but do not assume domestic Send/Request limits are the limits for a Coinepay inbound remittance. The applicable requirements can depend on the payout route and the recipient’s account status. If the wallet reports that a limit has been reached, the recipient should review their account information in Khalti by IME or ask its support what applies. Do not divide a transfer to try to bypass a limit or review.
Troubleshoot a delayed or rejected transfer
Wrong mobile number
If you have not confirmed the transfer, correct the number first. If you have already submitted it, check the Coinepay status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. A completed payment sent to someone else’s number may be difficult to recover: Khalti warns users of its own wallet-transfer feature to verify numbers before sending and does not take responsibility for refunding a completed transfer to another person’s number. Do not assume an inbound remittance can be reversed.
Name mismatch or an old IME Pay account
Compare the recipient’s full registered name and current wallet number with the submitted details. If the recipient is merging an older IME Pay account into Khalti by IME, Khalti says a difference in name or date of birth between those accounts can trigger manual verification. The recipient can contact Khalti at [email protected] about that migration; contact Coinepay support separately about the status of the remittance.
Wallet limit reached or verification incomplete
Have the recipient check for a limit or KYC notice in their wallet and resolve it through Khalti’s normal process. For a transfer still in progress, ask Coinepay support what its status means before attempting another payment. Use the recipient’s real identity details; do not switch to another person’s wallet to avoid a restriction.
Compliance review or no visible balance
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose or source of funds. Respond through the requested channel and keep tracking the existing transfer rather than submitting duplicates. If Coinepay shows it as completed but the recipient cannot see the money, have them check their wallet history and any fund-transfer request, then provide the transfer reference to Coinepay support. The recipient can also ask Khalti about their wallet at [email protected].

FAQ
Is IME Pay the same as Khalti by IME?
Khalti by IME is the current wallet brand; the older IME Pay name may still appear. Ask the recipient which account and registered number they currently use.
What recipient details do I need?
Get the recipient’s current registered mobile number and full name exactly as registered. If Coinepay requests an account ID, confirm the correct identifier with the recipient.
Can I send to an unverified wallet?
Check the recipient’s wallet status before sending. Khalti requires KYC before users initiate transactions, and account requirements may affect whether the recipient can use the funds.
What if IME Pay is not a payout choice in Coinepay?
Do not select a different wallet as a substitute. Contact Coinepay support to check the payout options available for your transfer.
How can I tell whether the money arrived?
Track the transfer in Coinepay and ask the recipient to check their current wallet balance, transaction history and any fund-transfer request.
