Tmall is a shopping marketplace, not a subscription you need to buy before placing an order. Its paid consumer membership, 88VIP, has a separate enrollment and payment flow. This guide covers both shopping checkout and 88VIP, with steps for checking whether your Coinepay virtual card is available as a payment option for your account and purchase.
Know which Tmall payment you are making
For a product order, you pay the amount shown at checkout, including any applicable shipping or other charges. The available payment methods can depend on the item, account and checkout. Tmall Global is a separate cross-border shopping channel, not an 88VIP membership tier; its listings and delivery options should be checked separately.
If you want 88VIP benefits, look in the Taobao or Tmall Membership Center for the package offered to your account. The membership terms describe an 88VIP annual membership lasting 365 days and an 88VIP monthly membership lasting 31 days. Eligibility, benefits and the price shown during enrollment can vary. A separate Taobao-and-Tmall loyalty program has six free tiers, from Bronze to Black Diamond; those tiers are not six paid 88VIP plans. Check the current membership offer and price in Membership Center before paying.
What to prepare before checkout
- Your own Taobao account. Register or sign in through the official Taobao or Tmall app or site. Use your real identity, contact information and delivery details. For 88VIP, the enrollment terms also require a linked, verified Alipay account.
- An eligible destination and item. Check the listing and checkout for delivery availability, any item restrictions and the final amount. A destination available for one item may not be available for another. Follow the marketplace’s regional and identity requirements rather than trying to bypass them.
- A Coinepay virtual card. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Your card number, expiry date and CVV are available when the card is issued. Use the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard to check the card and available funds.
- Your real billing details. Have the billing information associated with your payment account ready. Do not substitute a delivery address for your billing address unless they are genuinely the same.
Alipay’s Tmall-related terms discuss several card networks, while its international-payment guidance describes non-mainland-issued credit, debit and prepaid cards. Those general descriptions do not establish that a particular card can be added to your account or used for a particular Tmall order or 88VIP charge. Check the payment options actually presented to you. If checkout specifies a card-type or issuing-region requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before you buy.
How to pay for a Tmall order
- Set up your accounts. Sign in to your Taobao or Tmall account. If your checkout routes through Alipay, sign in to the Alipay account you are authorized to use and complete any verification it requests.
- Select the item and delivery details. Review the seller’s listing, variant, quantity, delivery destination and return information. Confirm that checkout accepts your real delivery address for that particular item.
- Review the order. At checkout, check the merchandise amount and any displayed delivery charges, taxes or other charges before choosing a payment method.
- Inspect the available payment options. If the checkout or its Alipay payment screen offers a suitable card-entry option, enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV. Enter your genuine billing details where requested. If no card option appears, do not assume that another checkout or an 88VIP enrollment will offer one.
- Complete the payment checks. Follow any verification presented by the payment provider, then review the final amount and submit the payment only once. Look for the order confirmation in your Taobao or Tmall account and check your Coinepay dashboard or app for the corresponding card activity.
Keep your order details until the seller fulfills the purchase. If you see a pending card activity but no confirmed marketplace order, check the order history before attempting payment again, then ask the relevant payment provider or Coinepay support for help if the status remains unclear.
How to join or pay for 88VIP
- Sign in to Taobao. Use your own account and link a verified Alipay account as required by the 88VIP enrollment terms.
- Open Membership Center. Check whether your account is eligible and read the 88VIP package, benefits, service period and price displayed for you. The annual and monthly memberships have different stated durations; do not assume both will be offered to every account.
- Read the payment and renewal terms. Check which payment account will be authorized for the initial charge and whether auto-renewal is enabled or offered. The 88VIP renewal terms also describe an “International/Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan payment” checkout using Alipay (HK), but that does not mean it is available to every account.
- Check the offered payment method. If the authorized payment flow permits you to use your Coinepay card, enter its details and your real billing information, complete any requested checks and pay the displayed amount. If it does not offer an eligible card method, do not assume that a card usable for shopping will also work for membership.
- Confirm activation. Return to Membership Center to check the membership status and service period, and retain the payment confirmation.
To review or stop 88VIP auto-renewal in a supported Taobao or Tmall app, follow My Taobao → Membership Center → My 88VIP → Auto-renewal → Manage. Canceling auto-renewal leaves the current paid period in effect and stops later renewal, although the terms warn that an already-authorized deduction instruction may still be carried out. Check the timing and status shown in your account. Membership refund rules differ from merchandise return rules: the annual terms allow a refund for an early renewal before its next service period starts, while the auto-renewal terms say successfully deducted renewal fees are not refunded under that agreement.
If your card payment is declined
A decline does not, by itself, identify the cause. Tmall does not provide a single published list of card-decline codes for every checkout. Work through the checks that match what you actually see:
- Insufficient funds or an insufficient Alipay balance: Compare the full checkout amount with the funds available for the payment method being charged. The 88VIP renewal terms specifically identify insufficient Alipay balance as a possible renewal-failure reason. Check whether the attempted charge was to an Alipay balance, your card or another authorized source before adding funds or retrying.
- Billing-address mismatch: Compare the billing details entered at checkout with the genuine details associated with your payment account. Correct a typo; do not invent an address or change your country to get around a regional rule.
- Authentication or 3-D Secure interruption: If a card-authentication prompt appears, finish it using the method offered. If it expires or fails, check the payment and order status before retrying. Not every checkout will present the same authentication flow.
- Merchant, item or region checks: Check whether the item can be delivered to your actual address and whether the offered payment method is available to your account. A card option shown for one order need not be available for 88VIP or another item. If a card-type or issuing-region restriction is displayed, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy.
- Account restriction or verification request: The 88VIP renewal terms identify a restricted account as another possible reason for failure. Follow the account provider’s instructions for resolving a restriction or completing identity verification; do not retry with someone else’s account or details.
If the cause is still unclear, save the exact on-screen message, order or membership reference, amount and time of the attempt. Contact the marketplace or Alipay about checkout and account restrictions, and Coinepay support about your card’s status or a card transaction. Do not send your full card number or CVV in an ordinary support message.

FAQ
Do I need 88VIP to shop on Tmall?
No. Tmall is a marketplace; 88VIP is a separate paid membership. Review the item’s checkout to see the payment and delivery options available to you.
Can I use the same card for a Tmall order and 88VIP?
Possibly, but the two payment flows can offer different methods. Check each checkout; neither card acceptance nor 88VIP eligibility is assured.
Where can I turn off 88VIP auto-renewal?
In a supported Taobao or Tmall app, go to My Taobao → Membership Center → My 88VIP → Auto-renewal → Manage. Check whether a deduction was already authorized.
What should I do if my Tmall card payment fails?
Check available funds, genuine billing details, any authentication prompt, and item or account restrictions. Confirm whether an order was created before retrying, and contact support with the exact error message.
