You can shop on H&M’s website or app without buying a subscription. H&M Membership is a free loyalty programme; the payment is for the items in your order. This guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, place an H&M order and investigate a declined card payment.
Before you start
Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using its card services. Once your virtual card is issued, its card number, expiry date and CVV are available instantly. You can manage the card through the Coinepay mobile app or its 24/7 self-service dashboard. Check the app for the balance available to spend and any card details relevant to your purchase; do not assume a particular H&M checkout will accept the card.
- Choose the correct H&M country site. Shop in the country or region that applies to your real delivery address. H&M’s available products, payment methods and membership benefits differ by market.
- Use accurate details. Have your real name, delivery address and billing details ready. Enter the billing information associated with your payment method rather than substituting a different address to pass a check.
- Review the order total. Check the item prices, delivery charges and any discounts at H&M checkout, then make sure you have enough available to cover the amount H&M may authorise.
- Check local payment guidance. H&M lists different payment options by country. For example, its US online payment page lists cards alongside Apple Pay, PayPal and gift cards; its UK page lists eligible credit and debit cards alongside other methods. A listed payment category does not establish that a particular virtual card will be accepted.
Important for UK orders: H&M’s UK card guidance covers eligible credit and debit cards. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy. H&M may also apply its own checkout and authorisation checks.
Do you need an H&M account or membership?
H&M Membership has two tiers, Core and Plus, and is not a paid recurring subscription. You do not need to put a card on file to pay a membership fee. The programme’s points thresholds and rewards vary by country: the US membership page lists 500 points for Plus, while the UK page lists 300 points. Check the membership information on your local H&M site before relying on a particular benefit.
You can join on hm.com or in the H&M app. Follow the account or membership sign-up prompts for your country and provide your real details. In the US, members must be at least 16, and joining does not require the app. If you want to earn US membership points on an online purchase, sign in before checkout. Where a reward is available in your US account, H&M allows you to add it during online checkout.
If you are shopping as a guest, follow the guest-checkout option if it is offered in your market. Creating an account and paying for an order are separate decisions: joining the free membership programme does not mean H&M will approve a later card transaction.
How to pay for an H&M order
- Prepare your Coinepay card. If you have not registered, create a Coinepay account and complete the required identity verification. Open your issued virtual card in the app or dashboard and have its number, expiry date and CVV ready.
- Visit your local H&M site or open the H&M app. Select the appropriate country or region, browse the products you want and check sizes, colours and availability. Add the items to your bag.
- Sign in if you want membership benefits. Join or sign in before online checkout if you intend to earn points where eligible. Review any rewards the H&M checkout offers for your account; points and rewards are country-specific.
- Enter delivery and billing information. Provide your real delivery address and contact details. When the payment form asks for a billing address, enter the details that genuinely apply to your card and account. Review the address before moving on.
- Select an available card-payment option. If H&M presents a card-entry form, enter the Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV as shown in Coinepay. Follow any additional verification instructions displayed during checkout. The options shown to you may depend on the H&M country site and the order.
- Review and submit the order. Confirm the items, discounts, delivery choice and final amount before placing it. Wait for H&M’s order confirmation rather than treating a pending authorisation alone as proof that the order was accepted.
For UK card orders, H&M says an approved amount is reserved immediately and debited when the order is dispatched. It also says an unapproved card transaction cancels the order. If you see a reservation but no accepted order, check the order status with H&M before attempting another purchase; repeated attempts may create additional pending authorisations.
What if H&M declines the card?
A decline does not, by itself, identify the cause. Check the H&M checkout or order message, then look at the card activity available in Coinepay. H&M’s Singapore payment guidance identifies several possible causes of failed payments, but those are not a diagnosis for an individual order in another market.
Insufficient available balance
Compare your available amount in Coinepay with the full H&M checkout total, including delivery. If funds are insufficient, use the funding options shown in your Coinepay account and retry only after the available amount has updated. If you already have a pending authorisation, account for that when checking what remains available. For questions about a card balance or authorisation, contact Coinepay support.
Incorrect details or a billing-address mismatch
Re-enter the card number, expiry date and CVV directly from your Coinepay card display, checking for typing errors. Compare the billing name and address you entered at H&M with your genuine billing details. Correct mistakes; do not use an invented address or someone else’s identity. If you cannot determine which details apply, ask Coinepay support before making more attempts.
3-D Secure or another authorisation step
H&M says 3-D Secure verification may be required for UK card checkout. If a verification prompt appears, complete the legitimate instructions shown and return to H&M to check whether the order was accepted. If the prompt fails, closes or never appears, try again after checking your connection and app or browser, then contact Coinepay support with the time and amount of the attempted payment. Do not assume that bypassing the prompt will complete the purchase.
Merchant region or payment-method checks
Confirm you are using the H&M site for your actual shopping and delivery country, and check that site’s payment page for the methods it offers. H&M may decline a transaction after its own regional or payment checks even when the card details are correct. Do not change your address or location details to evade those checks. For a UK purchase, remember that H&M’s card guidance specifies eligible credit and debit cards; ask Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets that requirement before retrying. H&M customer service can help with a cancelled order or a checkout restriction on its side.
Temporary checkout or network problems
If the checkout does not load or a payment fails without a clear reason, first check whether H&M created an order. Avoid repeatedly submitting the same order while the result is uncertain. You can try again later if no order was placed, or contact H&M about its checkout and Coinepay support about any visible card authorisation.
After checkout: orders, returns and membership
Use your H&M order information to follow fulfilment and request help with an item. Returns are governed by the policy for the H&M country site where you purchased. In the US, H&M generally allows merchandise returns within 30 days and refunds eligible returns to the original payment method. In the UK, its terms provide a 14-day period to give notice of withdrawal after receipt, with a voluntary extension to 30 days for full-price items; sale items retain the 14-day notice period. Check your local H&M returns page for eligibility, fees and current instructions before sending anything back.
US members who no longer want the free membership can cancel through My Account or H&M customer service; remaining points are forfeited. This cancels membership, not an order or a recurring card charge. If you chose a separate UK Klarna checkout option instead of paying directly by card, available purchase actions appear in your H&M account under Orders → Payment with Klarna; Klarna handles questions about those payments. Its credit options are subject to eligibility and terms, including the stated requirement that users be UK residents aged 18 or over.

FAQ
Is H&M Membership a paid subscription?
No. Core and Plus are tiers of H&M’s free loyalty programme. You pay for purchases, not a recurring membership fee.
Will H&M accept my Coinepay virtual card?
Acceptance depends on the checkout and applicable card requirements. For UK orders, H&M specifies eligible credit and debit cards; contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets that requirement before buying.
Why did my H&M card payment fail?
Possible causes include insufficient available funds, incorrect card or billing details, an incomplete verification step, or H&M’s payment and regional checks. Check your order status and Coinepay card activity before retrying.
When will H&M charge my card for a UK order?
H&M says it reserves an approved amount immediately and debits the card when the order is dispatched. An unapproved card transaction cancels the order.
