Magazine Luiza (Magalu) is one of Brazil's largest e-commerce marketplaces, selling electronics, appliances, home goods and more through its website and SuperApp. This guide explains how to set up a Coinepay virtual card, add it at Magalu checkout, and troubleshoot the most common reasons a card is declined. It covers purchases on Magalu's own site and app, not items sold by individual marketplace sellers.

Before you start: an important card requirement

Magalu has a specific policy that affects which cards work. According to its page for customers living abroad, a resident outside Brazil may buy using a valid Brazilian CPF and a Brazilian delivery address, and credit cards used for those purchases must be issued in Brazil. Delivery outside Brazil is not offered under those conditions.

Because card-issuing details vary, do not assume any particular card will satisfy a "must be issued in Brazil" rule. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy. If it does not, consider one of Magalu's non-card payment methods described below, and always use your own real identity and billing details.

Magalu's accepted credit-card brands include American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Diners, Hipercard, Elo and Aura, plus its own Cartão Luiza Preferencial/Ouro and Cartão Magalu products. Other listed payment methods are Pix, single-payment boleto, Caixa virtual debit card, MagaluPay and Carnê Digital; splitting payment between two cards and Carnê Digital are SuperApp-only options.

What you need

  • A completed, KYC-verified Coinepay account with a virtual card (number, expiry date and CVV are issued instantly in the app).
  • Enough available balance on the card to cover the order total, including delivery and any installment costs shown at checkout.
  • A valid Brazilian CPF and a Brazilian delivery address, as required by Magalu.
  • The Coinepay app (iOS or Google Play) handy to read your card details and approve any verification step.

If you have not registered yet, you can create a Coinepay account and complete identity verification first. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction.

Step 1: Create your Magalu account

  1. On the Magazine Luiza site or SuperApp, select Entre ou cadastre-se.
  2. Under Quero criar uma conta, enter your email address.
  3. Supply the requested personal details and accept the privacy policy.
  4. If you need to correct anything later, go to Seu Espaço → Seu Cadastro on the site, or Sua Conta in the app.

Accurate details matter: Magalu's terms allow it to suspend or cancel order processing for duplicate registrations, suspected fraud or inaccurate information, so make sure your name, CPF and address are correct and consistent.

Step 2: Get your Coinepay card details ready

  1. Open the Coinepay app and select the virtual card you want to use.
  2. Note the 16-digit card number, expiry date and CVV.
  3. Top up or confirm the card has enough balance for the full order total.

Having these on hand avoids timeouts on the payment screen.

Step 3: Add items and go to checkout

  1. Add your product to the bag (sacola) and open it.
  2. Confirm the Brazilian delivery address and review the price, delivery charge and any installment cost — these are shown before the order is completed, and online prices can differ from in-store prices.
  3. Choose your payment method. If you are paying by card, select the credit-card option.

Step 4: Enter card details and confirm

  1. Type the card number, cardholder name, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown in the Coinepay app.
  2. Choose single payment or, where offered, an installment plan; review the total.
  3. If a 3-D Secure or verification prompt appears, approve it and keep your Coinepay app open to see any notification.
  4. Place the order. The payment method cannot be changed after an order is closed, so check everything first.

If you prefer Pix instead, the site displays a QR code and the SuperApp shows a copy-and-paste code that is valid for 13 hours.

Step 5: Track your order

Your purchases appear under Meus Pedidos on the site or in the app, where you can follow processing and delivery status. Magalu's support guidance references an antifraud review that can show a Recusado status if a payment is refused; if that happens, see the troubleshooting section below.

Troubleshooting: why a card gets declined

Magalu does not publish an exhaustive list of customer-facing card error messages, but these are the most common causes to check.

Insufficient balance

Confirm the available balance in the Coinepay app covers the full order total, including delivery and any installment amount. Add funds and retry if needed.

Billing details mismatch

Make sure the cardholder name and details you enter match your Coinepay card, and that your Magalu account data (name and CPF) is accurate under Seu Espaço → Seu Cadastro or Sua Conta. Inaccurate information can lead Magalu to suspend or cancel the order.

3-D Secure not completed

If the bank or issuer prompts for an extra confirmation, complete it promptly. Keep your Coinepay app open so you can approve any push notification before the step times out.

Merchant region and card-origin checks

Remember Magalu's rule that cards used by customers abroad must be issued in Brazil, together with a Brazilian CPF and Brazilian delivery address. A card that does not meet this condition may be refused. If you are unsure, ask Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets the requirement before you order.

Antifraud or verification review

A Recusado status or failed verification can occur during Magalu's fraud checks. Verify your account details, try again later, or contact Magalu customer service to understand the specific reason.

Cancellations and refunds

For site and app purchases you may withdraw within seven calendar days of receipt. Request a return or cancellation through Meus pedidos → Quero trocar ou cancelar. Partner-sold products may be cancelled but, under the help-center policy, not exchanged.

After a cancellation is completed, Magalu's help page lists these refund windows: boleto in 3 business days, credit-card refund request in up to 7 business days (when it appears depends on the issuer's statement cycle), MagaluPay in up to 5 business days, Pix in up to 1 business day, and Carnê Digital in up to 5 business days. Note that Magalu's purchase terms describe different timeframes — a card credit within two subsequent statements and 10 business days for a boleto refund — so the exact deadline for a given case may vary. For card refunds, check your Coinepay app and statement to confirm the credit has arrived.

A note on fees and plans

Ordinary Magalu shopping is paid per order, not by subscription. The customer-benefit tier Cliente Ouro has no enrollment or recurring fee and requires four separate Magalu purchases within 12 months. Separately, Luizacred's 2026 tariff sheet lists the Cartão Luiza Preferencial at R$191.88/year (12 × R$15.99) at the time of writing (February 2026), while Cartão Luiza Ouro and Cartão Magalu Visa Platinum have no annual fee — but these are credit-card products, not shopping plans. Product prices, delivery charges and installment costs vary, so always review the figures shown at checkout and on Magalu's official pages before you confirm.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card on Magazine Luiza?

Magalu requires credit cards used by customers abroad to be issued in Brazil, along with a valid Brazilian CPF and Brazilian delivery address. Card-issuing details vary, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy.

What payment methods does Magazine Luiza accept?

The site and SuperApp list Pix, single-payment boleto, credit card, Caixa virtual debit card, MagaluPay and Carnê Digital. Splitting payment between two cards and Carnê Digital are available only in the SuperApp.

Why was my card declined at Magalu checkout?

Common causes are insufficient balance, mismatched or inaccurate account details, an incomplete 3-D Secure step, or Magalu's card-origin and antifraud checks (which can show a Recusado status). Verify each, then retry or contact support.

Can the payment method be changed after I place an order?

No. Magalu states the payment method cannot be changed once an order is closed, so review the total, installments and card details carefully before confirming.

How long do refunds take if I cancel a card order?

Magalu's help page lists up to 7 business days for a credit-card refund request, with appearance depending on your issuer's statement cycle. Its purchase terms mention a longer window, so check your Coinepay app and statement to confirm the credit.
