Sending money to someone who uses LANKAQR starts with an important distinction: LANKAQR is Sri Lanka’s QR-code standard, not a mobile wallet account. The recipient’s money is held by their participating bank, finance company or mobile e-money provider. This guide explains what to ask the recipient for, how to check the payout options in Coinepay and what to do if the transfer cannot be completed.
What is LANKAQR, and where is it used?
LANKAQR is used in Sri Lanka for payments and person-to-person transfers in Sri Lankan rupees (LKR). A person may receive a personal P2P LANKAQR code from a participating provider. That is different from a merchant-presented LANKAQR code used to pay a business. If you are sending money to an individual, ask about their personal receiving account or P2P code—not a shop’s payment code.
A LANKAQR code is a way to identify a recipient for a supported QR transfer. It does not, by itself, establish that an overseas remittance app can scan the code or deposit into the account behind it. Likewise, an app that can scan LANKAQR codes at merchants may not support P2P codes. Before starting, check the payout methods shown for Sri Lanka in the Coinepay app. If LANKAQR is not offered as a payout option, do not select a different method and assume the QR code will work with it. Ask the recipient whether they can receive a bank-account or supported mobile-wallet payout instead.
What details should you get from the recipient?
Ask the recipient to check their provider’s app or account information and send you the details required for the payout option displayed in Coinepay. For a mobile-wallet or account-based payout, prepare:
- The registered phone number or account ID: use the identifier connected to the account that should receive the money, including any country code the form requests. A number used only for messaging may not be the receiving account number.
- The recipient’s full name exactly as registered: ask them to copy it from their provider’s records rather than supplying a nickname or an abbreviated name.
- The provider name, if requested: LANKAQR is a standard shared by participating providers, not the name of the recipient’s wallet.
If the available method calls for a P2P QR code, the recipient should obtain their personal code from their provider. Do not substitute a merchant code. Check the exact fields and instructions in Coinepay before sharing a code or entering an account identifier; payout flows can differ. If you are unsure whether the account can receive this type of cross-border payout, have the recipient ask their provider and contact Coinepay support before confirming.
How to send the transfer in Coinepay
- Open Coinepay and start a remittance. Use the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. Follow any registration and identity-verification steps requested for your transfer.
- Choose Sri Lanka as the destination. Check the receiving currency and the payout methods the app offers for this transfer.
- Select LANKAQR only if it appears as a supported payout method. Follow the fields shown. If it is not listed, check whether the recipient can receive a bank-account deposit or a mobile-wallet payout offered in the app. Do not enter a LANKAQR code into an unrelated account-number field.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Use their registered phone number or account ID and full registered name where requested. Compare every character against the details they supplied. If the method requires a P2P code, follow the app’s specific instructions rather than assuming a merchant QR scan will send money to a person.
- Review the transfer before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Check the amount, destination, payout method and recipient details, as well as the estimated arrival time displayed for the transfer. Correct any mistake before proceeding.
- Confirm and track the transfer. Once submitted, follow its status in Coinepay. Keep the transaction reference handy in case you need help. A screenshot of a submission screen is not proof that the recipient has been credited.
Coinepay supports cross-border transfers to eligible destinations through payout methods that include bank deposits, mobile wallets and cash pickup. Which method you can choose for this recipient is determined by the options presented for your transfer in the app. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations; Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds.
How will the recipient see the money arrive?
The recipient should check the account or wallet maintained by their participating provider, not look for a separate “LANKAQR balance.” If the transfer is credited, their provider may display it in the account balance or transaction history and may send a notification, depending on its service and settings. Ask them to compare the credited amount and transaction details with the transfer information you provide. If Coinepay shows the transfer as pending, allow the status to update rather than treating a lack of notification as a failed payment.
If Coinepay shows completion but the recipient cannot find the credit, have them check the correct registered account and contact their provider. You can also contact Coinepay support with the transaction reference and the recipient details entered. Avoid submitting a duplicate transfer while the outcome is uncertain.
How can wallet verification and limits affect receipt?
A mobile-phone-based e-money account in Sri Lanka can have different stored-value and transaction allowances depending on its verification level. A basic account, an account whose customer information has not been verified as required, and an account that has completed enhanced identity checks may not all be able to hold or receive the same amount. Daily incoming activity and the wallet’s current balance can also affect whether a new credit is accepted.
Those are recipient-account rules, not a single LANKAQR-wide transfer limit. They should not be confused with rules for LANKAQR merchant purchases. Before you send, the recipient can check their provider’s current account level, available capacity and instructions for completing verification. If the wallet cannot receive the transfer, ask the provider what needs to change; do not try to bypass its checks by routing the payment through someone else.
Troubleshooting a LANKAQR-related payout
- Wrong phone number or account ID: stop before confirming and ask the recipient to verify the identifier in their provider’s app. If you have already submitted the transfer, check its Coinepay status and contact support promptly with the transaction reference. Do not assume a completed transfer can be recalled.
- Name mismatch: compare the entered name with the recipient’s full name as registered with their provider, including the order and spelling of names. If the transfer is on hold or rejected, follow the instructions shown or ask support what correction is possible.
- Wallet limit reached: the recipient should check their balance, recent incoming activity and applicable account rules with their provider. A rejected credit does not establish a universal LANKAQR limit.
- Unverified wallet: the recipient may need to complete their provider’s identity checks before that account can receive the payment. Let the provider explain its requirements; do not enter someone else’s account details as a workaround.
- QR code will not scan or the method is missing: confirm that the code is a personal P2P code and that the app actually offers a compatible P2P payout. Merchant-scan support alone is not enough. Contact support rather than assuming the scan sent funds.
- Compliance review: check Coinepay for requests for identity or transaction documents, such as the transfer purpose or source of funds. Provide accurate information through the requested channel and monitor the transfer status.
For an unresolved transfer, use Coinepay support and provide the transaction reference, destination, payout method and a description of the problem. Share sensitive account information only through an appropriate support channel. If the issue concerns the recipient’s verification level or wallet capacity, they should also speak directly with their Sri Lankan provider.

FAQ
Is LANKAQR a mobile wallet?
No. LANKAQR is Sri Lanka’s QR-code standard. The recipient’s participating bank, finance company or mobile e-money provider maintains the receiving account.
Can I send to any LANKAQR code from Coinepay?
Check the payout options shown for Sri Lanka in Coinepay. Do not assume that a merchant code, a personal P2P code or an account identifier works with a payout method unless the app supports it.
What recipient details do I need?
Have the recipient confirm their registered phone number or account ID and full name exactly as registered. Enter any additional details requested for the payout method shown in Coinepay.
Why was a transfer to a recipient’s wallet rejected?
Possible causes include incorrect account details, a name mismatch, wallet verification requirements or the recipient account’s capacity. Check the Coinepay status and ask the recipient to check with their provider.
