Sending money to someone who uses Alipay in mainland China starts with getting their account details right. With Coinepay Global Remittance, you can check the available payout methods for your transfer, review the quoted exchange rate and fees, and track its status. The recipient may need to take a step in Alipay before they can receive the money.
What to check before you start
Alipay is a receiving app commonly used in mainland China. The receiving currency for a transfer to China is Chinese yuan, shown as CNY and also called renminbi or RMB. This guide is about sending money from abroad to an Alipay user; it is not about paying a merchant through Alipay or sending money out of China.
First, check the available destination and payout options in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard. Select Alipay only if it is offered for your specific transfer. Available services can vary by jurisdiction and transfer. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, and it screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists.
Ask the recipient to check which account information Alipay shows as registered to them. You will generally need:
- Their full legal name, exactly as registered. Confirm the spelling and name order before entering it. If the form requests a name in Latin characters, ask the recipient for the spelling that matches their identity document rather than transliterating it yourself.
- Their Alipay account identifier. This may be their registered phone number or another account ID, depending on the payout form. Some transfer routes use the registered email address. Enter the type of identifier the Coinepay form requests, including the correct country code if the phone field calls for one.
- Any additional information requested in the form. Depending on the route and applicable checks, this could include information about the recipient or the purpose of the payment. Ask the recipient rather than guessing.
Confirm that you are sending to the intended person and that the recipient can access their Alipay account. An Alipay account identifier is not interchangeable with an unrelated phone number or a bank account number. Use the recipient’s real details throughout the transfer.
How to send to Alipay with Coinepay
- Sign in. Open the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete the identity verification requested for your service.
- Start a Global Remittance transfer. Enter the destination and select China if it is available for your transfer. Check the currency and the amount you want the recipient to receive or the amount you want to send, as prompted.
- Choose the payout method. Select Alipay under the available mobile-wallet or recipient payout options if it appears. Do not substitute a bank-deposit option unless you and the recipient intend to use that method.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Copy their full registered name and the requested Alipay phone number or account ID carefully. Complete any other fields shown, including the transfer purpose where required.
- Review the quote. Before confirming, check the exchange rate and fees shown in Coinepay, the CNY amount expected at the destination, the payout method and every recipient detail. Correct any mistake before proceeding.
- Confirm and track. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the transfer. Use the transfer’s status tracking in the app or dashboard to see whether it is processing, needs attention or has reached its stated outcome.
The rate and fees are shown before you confirm. If Alipay is not offered for the destination or the particular transfer, do not assume that selecting another payout method will credit the recipient’s Alipay account. Check the available options or contact Coinepay support before you send.
How the recipient receives the money
Ask the recipient to watch for an Alipay in-app notice or message associated with the incoming transfer and to follow the instructions it provides. Depending on the transfer route and the choice presented to the recipient, the money may be credited to an Alipay balance or delivered to a mainland-China bank card linked to Alipay. An Alipay payout selection does not, by itself, promise a wallet-balance credit.
The recipient should check both their Alipay balance and any linked bank-card account identified in the receiving instructions. If Alipay asks them to link a bank card, confirm their identity or supply information about the payment, they should complete the task using their own genuine details. The instructions shown to that recipient take precedence over a menu path described for a different provider.
Some senders’ Alipay routes have their own collection steps and eligibility rules. For example, one provider asks recipients to complete a bank-card-linking step, while another describes a collection path through Alipay’s cross-border remittance search. Those are provider-specific flows, not universal steps for a Coinepay transfer. The recipient should rely on the notification they actually receive and seek help through Alipay’s in-app support if they cannot find a requested task.
Recipient verification, wallet limits and transfer purpose
Whether a recipient can collect a payment depends in part on their Alipay account status, verification and the receiving method. An account that has not completed the verification required for a particular route may be unable to receive until the recipient finishes Alipay’s checks. The recipient may also encounter account, wallet or linked-bank-card restrictions. Do not assume that a limit published by another transfer provider applies to Coinepay: provider routes can have different rules, and receipts through other services may matter.
Ask the recipient to review any limits or verification requests shown in their Alipay account. Check the Coinepay app or contact support about requirements for the transfer you intend to make. If you are sending for family support, salary, goods or services, describe the real purpose accurately; a purpose available through one provider’s Alipay route may not be available through another. Business and individual receiving arrangements can also differ.
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents about the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds. Respond through the requested channel with accurate information. Do not send to a sanctioned person or jurisdiction, or ask someone else to receive on the intended recipient’s behalf to get around a check.
Troubleshooting an Alipay transfer
Wrong phone number or account ID
If you notice an error before confirmation, go back and correct it. If you have already confirmed, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not start a replacement transfer until you understand what happened to the first one. A completed transfer may not be correctable in the app.
Name mismatch
Compare the submitted name with the recipient’s registered legal name and any identity document details requested for the route. Differences in spelling, name order or the account identifier can prevent collection. Ask Coinepay support what correction or next step is available; do not enter someone else’s name to make the form pass.
Wallet limit reached or account not verified
Ask the recipient to look for an Alipay notification explaining a limit or an unfinished verification task. They may need to complete Alipay’s identity checks or review the receiving option offered to them. Contact Coinepay support before trying a different payout method, as that could change where the money is delivered.
Compliance review or money not visible
Check Coinepay’s transfer tracker for an outstanding request and provide any genuine documents requested. Ask the recipient to check Alipay notices, their wallet balance and the statement for the linked bank card, if applicable. If the transfer shows as delivered but they cannot locate it, give Coinepay support the transfer reference and ask the recipient to contact Alipay through its app. Keep the transfer record and avoid sending the same payment again while it is being investigated.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to an Alipay user?
Get the recipient’s full name exactly as registered and the Alipay phone number or account ID requested by the payout form. Confirm any additional details directly with the recipient.
Will the money appear in the recipient’s Alipay balance?
Not necessarily. Depending on the receiving route and instructions, it may go to an Alipay balance or a bank card linked to Alipay. The recipient should check both where applicable.
What if Alipay asks the recipient to verify their account?
The recipient should follow the request in their own Alipay app using genuine information. If they cannot complete it or the transfer remains pending, check Coinepay’s tracker and contact support.
Where can I see the exchange rate and fees?
Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees in the app or dashboard before you confirm the transfer.
