You can start a Jira Cloud site on the Free plan, then enter payment details when you upgrade. This guide explains where to find Jira’s checkout and billing settings, how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, and what to check if a payment is declined. Card acceptance depends on Atlassian’s requirements and the checks applied to your transaction.

What you need before upgrading Jira

Jira Cloud offers four plans: Free, Standard, Premium, and Enterprise. Free supports up to 10 users, so a small team can set up its site before deciding whether to pay. The amount due for a paid plan depends on the plan, user count, billing cycle, and the price shown for your order. At the time of writing (October 2026), Atlassian’s U.S. monthly list prices for users 1–100 are USD 9.70 per user for Standard and USD 19.60 per user for Premium; larger teams enter lower-priced user bands. Annual pricing uses fixed user tiers. Check Jira’s official pricing page and your checkout total before confirming, rather than treating these examples as your quote.

Before you begin, have access to the Atlassian account and organization that will own the subscription. To use a Coinepay virtual card, you must register with Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC). Once issued, your card number, expiry date, and CVV are available through Coinepay’s self-service dashboard or mobile app. Check your available funds and any applicable card settings there before attempting payment. If you need help finding a setting or understanding a card restriction, contact Coinepay support.

Atlassian lists Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit or debit cards for card payments; it also lists PayPal. That is a merchant card-type requirement, not confirmation that any particular Coinepay card qualifies. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Atlassian’s requirement before you buy. Atlassian does not list Discover among its accepted cards and specifically excludes it for monthly renewals. Some eligible annual orders instead use approved payment terms, such as wire or ACH credit; cards are not accepted for those payment-term orders. If your order is on payment terms, follow the payment instructions on that order rather than entering a card.

Step 1: Create your Jira Cloud site

  1. Go to Atlassian’s official site and open its Jira Cloud trial or sign-up flow at atlassian.com/try. Select the Jira cloud option.
  2. Sign in to an existing Atlassian account or create one using your real information. Follow the prompts to choose or create your site URL and complete setup.
  3. Confirm which organization owns the new site. A new Jira Cloud site starts on Free, so you can check the workspace and invite the right people before selecting a paid plan.

If your team already has a Jira site, do not create another one just to change its payment method. Instead, sign in to the organization that owns the existing subscription and proceed to its billing settings. Ask an organization or billing administrator for access if you cannot see the subscription.

Step 2: Choose a plan and enter your card at checkout

  1. In Atlassian Administration, select the organization associated with your Jira site. Navigate to Billing → Manage subscriptions → Change plan.
  2. Select the Jira plan and the monthly or annual billing option available for your order. Review the user count or annual user tier carefully: those choices affect the amount you authorize. Enterprise appears as an annual-only option in Atlassian’s published pricing table.
  3. When Atlassian asks for payment details, retrieve the card number, expiry date, and CVV from your Coinepay dashboard or app. Enter them into Atlassian’s checkout. Supply your real billing name and address, using details that match the information associated with your payment method. Do not use an invented address or a different country to try to change eligibility.
  4. Review the plan, billing period, amount, and any tax displayed by Atlassian. Check that your card has enough available funds for the amount shown. Complete any verification requested during checkout, then submit the purchase only when the details are correct.
  5. Return to Atlassian’s subscription page to confirm the resulting plan and payment status. Also check your Coinepay dashboard or app for the corresponding card activity before trying again if the checkout outcome is unclear.

Coinepay lets you manage your card through its self-service dashboard and mobile app, available for iOS and Android. Keep the card details private; enter them only in the payment flow you opened from Atlassian’s official site.

Where to update Jira payment details later

Atlassian has two billing experiences, so the path depends on your account. In the improved experience, a billing administrator goes to admin.atlassian.com/billing, selects the billing account, and opens Payment method. In the original experience, the path is Administration → Billing → Manage subscriptions → Billing details. Use the billing account connected to the Jira subscription you intend to pay; organizations with multiple sites or subscriptions may have more than one item to review.

If a saved card expires or its billing information changes, update it in the applicable Atlassian billing screen. Recheck the next invoice or subscription status afterward. Changing payment details does not by itself resolve a restriction on the card or the merchant’s order.

Jira card declined? Check these causes

A decline message does not, by itself, identify the cause. For example, a Jira Standard user publicly reported a card being “declined due to an issue with my payment details,” but that wording did not establish why the transaction failed. Work through these checks before repeatedly submitting the same payment:

  • Insufficient available funds: Compare the available funds shown by Coinepay with Atlassian’s checkout total, including any displayed tax. Check for other pending card activity. If the amount or card status is unclear, ask Coinepay support before retrying.
  • Billing address or card-detail mismatch: Re-enter the number, expiry date, and CVV carefully. Check that the real name and billing address entered at Atlassian match the details associated with your payment method. If you are unsure which details to use, confirm them with Coinepay support rather than guessing.
  • 3-D Secure or another verification step: If checkout asks you to approve a card verification, follow the on-screen instructions and look for an applicable prompt in your card-management channels. If no prompt arrives or verification fails, contact Coinepay support with the transaction time and amount. Do not assume a failed verification is a balance problem.
  • Merchant card-type or region checks: Atlassian lists specific accepted card brands and credit or debit cards. Ask Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets those requirements; neither a funded card nor successful use elsewhere proves that it will pass this checkout. Use your real country and billing information, and check whether Atlassian offers the service and order type in your location. Atlassian has stopped new sales in Russia and Belarus; do not try to bypass regional restrictions.
  • Expired card or unresolved subscription issue: Verify the expiry date and confirm you are editing the payment method for the correct billing account. If your card activity shows no clear cause but Atlassian still rejects payment, contact Atlassian billing support with its error text and the relevant subscription details. Do not send your full card number or CVV in a support message.

If a charge appears in Coinepay but the Jira upgrade has not appeared, check Atlassian’s subscription status and any receipt before paying again. Share the transaction time, amount, and the last four card digits with the appropriate support team if you need help reconciling it.

Before you renew or cancel

Review your billing cycle and current user count before renewal, especially if your team has grown. Atlassian’s October 2026 price change may affect new purchases and applicable renewals or upgrades; the amount displayed for your order is the one to review. If you no longer need the paid subscription, the improved billing experience places cancellation at admin.atlassian.com/billing under Subscriptions → Manage → more actions → Deactivate. In the original experience, use Cancel Subscription at my.atlassian.com. Atlassian says most paid subscriptions continue through the current period without a mid-cycle credit and describes deactivation as taking place 15 days after that period ends.

For non-Enterprise subscriptions, Atlassian’s published refund policy covers an initial monthly purchase during its first paid month after trial or an initial annual purchase within 30 days; it does not make renewals or upgrades refundable. Check the policy and your order details with Atlassian if you are considering a refund. These terms are separate from any question about whether a card transaction was successfully processed.

Where do I change the card for my Jira subscription?

In improved billing, go to admin.atlassian.com/billing, select the billing account, then Payment method. In original billing, use Administration → Billing → Manage subscriptions → Billing details.

Will Atlassian accept my Coinepay virtual card?

Atlassian lists Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit or debit cards, but acceptance of a particular card is not assured. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before buying.
