“Paying for Magento” can mean several different things. Magento Open Source is free software, while Adobe Commerce is sold through a pricing request. You might also be buying a Marketplace extension or updating billing for an eligible Commerce Intelligence Essentials subscription. This guide helps you identify the right payment path and use a Coinepay virtual card where card payment is offered.
First, identify what you are buying
Magento Open Source has no software subscription charge. Hosting, development, extensions, and payment processing may still cost money, but you pay the relevant provider rather than buying an Open Source license at a Magento checkout.
Adobe lists three commercial offerings: Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (SaaS), Adobe Commerce on Cloud (PaaS), and Adobe Commerce Optimizer. Optimizer provides storefront and merchandising capabilities rather than its own transaction engine. Within Adobe Commerce on Cloud, the infrastructure plans are called Starter and Pro; B2B is included with Pro and is an additional-fee option for Starter.
Adobe directs prospective Commerce customers to request customized pricing. It does not publish a universal monthly license price or a confirmed self-service card checkout for these commercial packages. Check Adobe’s official Commerce pricing page and your proposed sales order for the terms that apply to your business. Do not assume that a Coinepay virtual card can be used to pay an enterprise invoice.
Two other transactions have different workflows: a Marketplace extension subscription has its own checkout and annual recurring charge, while standalone, month-to-month Commerce Intelligence Essentials has a self-service payment-method setting for eligible accounts. Neither workflow should be confused with paying for a Commerce license or paying as a shopper at a store built with Magento.
What you need before trying to pay
- A Coinepay account with identity verification completed. Register through Coinepay, complete the required KYC steps, and obtain your virtual card in the app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. Coinepay provides its card number, expiry date, and CVV.
- The correct Adobe or Marketplace account. Use the account associated with the purchase or subscription you intend to manage. Have your real name, business details where applicable, and accurate billing details ready.
- The final amount and payment terms. Review the currency, taxes, recurring charges, and any applicable agreement before paying. Check the Coinepay app for your available funds and any card controls relevant to the transaction.
- Confirmation that card payment is offered. A merchant, payment provider, or region-specific checkout may impose conditions. If Adobe or another seller specifies an eligible card type or issuing-country requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy.
Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. Some Coinepay services are not available in every jurisdiction. Use your real billing details; a virtual card is not a way around regional eligibility rules or payment checks.
How to pay for a Marketplace extension subscription
This is the clearest subscription checkout among the Magento-related purchases covered here. Marketplace extension subscriptions are annual, not monthly, and the recurring charge is displayed during checkout. Whether a particular checkout accepts your virtual card must be determined at that checkout.
- Sign in to Adobe Commerce Marketplace using the account that will own the extension subscription. Find the extension and review its subscription details.
- Continue to checkout and read the displayed recurring charge and billing terms. Confirm that you are buying the intended extension, not an Adobe Commerce software license.
- If the checkout offers a card-entry option, enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date, and CVV. Provide billing details that accurately match the information associated with your card and account.
- Complete any authentication requested during checkout. Do not repeatedly resubmit a payment while an authentication step is pending.
- Wait for the Marketplace order confirmation, then check your account’s subscription record. If the result is unclear, verify the order status before attempting another purchase.
Marketplace also documents PayPal for buyers in countries where PayPal supports it; Adobe advises that the PayPal email match the Marketplace login email. That does not establish direct card acceptance for every Marketplace purchase. If card entry is unavailable, use only a payment method actually offered to you or ask Marketplace support about your options.
How to handle an Adobe Commerce license purchase
- Choose the commercial offering that fits your project and request pricing through Adobe’s official Commerce pricing page.
- Discuss the quote, sales order, billing entity, and accepted payment methods with Adobe’s sales or billing team. Cloud Service pricing levels can be defined in the sales order rather than as a published flat monthly fee.
- If Adobe explicitly offers card payment for your purchase, review its instructions and payment terms. Before providing your Coinepay card details, confirm that the proposed payment method is eligible for the transaction.
- Keep the executed agreement and payment confirmation. For changes, cancellation, or refunds, consult the applicable sales order and enterprise terms rather than assuming a consumer subscription policy applies.
There is no confirmed universal card-entry screen for buying an Adobe Commerce license. A Marketplace purchase screen or a Magento-powered store’s checkout is not a substitute for Adobe’s license billing process.
Update a qualifying Commerce Intelligence Essentials payment method
Adobe documents a self-service route for eligible standalone, month-to-month Commerce Intelligence Essentials accounts: sign in at account.magento.com, then go to Magento → My Products and Services → Magento Business Intelligence → Show Details → Update Payment Method. If that option is available to your account, follow the on-screen instructions and save the updated method. Eligibility for this setting does not establish that every card will be accepted.
This path does not apply to contract-billed Adobe Commerce customers. If you have a contract-billed license, follow the billing instructions in your agreement or contact your Adobe account or billing representative instead.
Why a card payment may be declined
A decline at a Magento-related checkout is not necessarily a Coinepay account problem. First identify who is charging you: Adobe, a Marketplace seller, or an independent merchant running a Magento store. Each can have different checkout settings and policies.
Insufficient available funds
Compare the final checkout total, including any displayed tax or currency conversion, with the funds available for your card in Coinepay. If the amount is insufficient, address that in the app before retrying. Avoid making repeated attempts without checking whether a previous attempt created an order.
Billing details do not match
Re-enter the card number, expiry date, and CVV carefully. Check your real billing name and address against the details you use for the card, correcting errors rather than substituting an invented address. If a checkout requires an address format or country that does not match your genuine details, ask the seller for an appropriate way to pay.
3-D Secure authentication is required or did not finish
Follow any authentication prompt presented by the checkout and check whether it completed before retrying. If the prompt never appears or times out, contact the merchant and Coinepay support with the time and amount of the attempted payment. In Adobe Payment Services’ merchant transaction report, code 5650 indicates required 3-D Secure authentication. It is a report code, not a guaranteed message shown to the shopper.
Merchant or region checks block the payment
The seller may restrict its payment methods by location, card eligibility, fraud controls, or account status. Check the checkout’s stated requirements and ask the seller which condition prevented payment. Contact Coinepay support if you need help confirming whether your card meets a stated requirement. Do not change your identity or location details to bypass a restriction.
If you are paying at an independent Magento-powered store, its merchant configures the checkout. Adobe Payment Services can offer different payment options depending on configuration and location; there is no Magento-wide rule that every store accepts the same cards. Where a merchant uses Adobe Payment Services, its report may show 5120 for insufficient funds, INSTRUMENT_DECLINED for a declined payment instrument, or PAYMENT_DENIED or bank code 9500 for suspected fraud. These are merchant-side report reasons, not confirmed shopper-facing error messages. Ask the merchant to investigate rather than guessing from a generic decline notice.
Manage renewal, cancellation, and refunds
For a Marketplace extension subscription, go to My Profile → My Subscriptions → View and Edit → Update payment method to change its billing method. To cancel, use My Profile → My Subscriptions → View and Edit → Current Subscription Status: Cancelled. Adobe says a subscription is also canceled if no payment method is present by its payment date. A subscriber may request a refund within 25 days of the initial purchase payment; Adobe says refunds of that payment after 25 days, or of subsequent payments, are not possible.
Eligible standalone Commerce Intelligence Essentials customers can find Cancel License in the same license details area used to update payment. That is not the cancellation route for a contract-billed Adobe Commerce license. If your purchase was from an independent Magento-powered store, its merchant’s return and refund policy governs your order; it is separate from Adobe’s software and Marketplace policies.
