A Klook travel eSIM lets you land in a new country with mobile data already active, without hunting for a local SIM. Klook sells these as one-off, destination-specific packages rather than a recurring subscription, and you pay once at checkout. This guide explains what you need, how to buy a Klook eSIM with a Coinepay virtual card step by step, and how to troubleshoot a declined card.
Before you start
Klook eSIM packages are one-time purchases, not a monthly subscription, so there is no automatic renewal to manage. Make sure you have the following ready:
- A Coinepay account with verified identity. You must register and complete KYC before you can use card services. If you have not done this yet, create your Coinepay account and finish verification first.
- An active Coinepay virtual card. Issue one in the Coinepay app or dashboard; you will see the card number, expiry date and CVV instantly.
- Enough balance on the card to cover the eSIM price shown at Klook checkout. Klook says a booking cannot be split across multiple cards or e-wallets, so the full amount must be available on one card.
- A Klook account. You can sign up with email, phone number, Facebook, Google or Apple.
- A compatible, carrier-unlocked phone. Klook states an eSIM cannot be activated on a carrier-locked device, so confirm your handset supports eSIM and is unlocked before buying.
Use your real identity and real billing details throughout. Note that Klook lists card networks including Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, UnionPay, Discover, Diners Club, Cartes Bancaires and Korean Local Card, but it also says availability for an individual eSIM purchase is not guaranteed and that the checkout payment page itself decides what a specific order accepts. If you want to confirm your Coinepay card meets a particular requirement before you buy, contact Coinepay support.
Choosing the right Klook eSIM package
Klook eSIMs are organised by region, and coverage is product-specific. Listings such as "5G eSIM Asia," "5G eSIM South East Asia" and "5G eSIM North America" are separate products, not tiers of one plan. For example, "5G eSIM North America" lists Canada, Mexico and the United States, while "5G eSIM South East Asia" lists Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.
Within a listing you choose a data allowance and a validity period. The Asia package, for instance, shows data choices of 500MB, 1GB, 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 50GB and an "Unlimited" option, with validity spanning 1–30 days depending on the combination. Packages are labelled either "Data in total" or "Data per day." The "Unlimited Plans" option on the Asia listing specifies 15GB per day at full speed, then 1Mbps, so read the fine print rather than assuming unlimited full-speed data.
Coverage exclusions matter too: the USA product includes Hawaii but excludes Guam and Saipan, and some Thailand listings name excluded southern districts. Always check the exact listing you are buying. Prices vary by region, allowance and duration, and promotions change, so check the current price on the Klook product page before you pay rather than relying on any figure you see quoted elsewhere.
Step-by-step: paying with your Coinepay virtual card
- Issue or open your Coinepay virtual card. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, create a card if you do not have one, and confirm its balance covers the eSIM price plus any possible issuer international-transaction fee. Klook says it adds no booking handling fee, but your card issuer may apply an international-transaction fee when the payment currency differs from the issuer's local currency.
- Sign in to Klook on the website or the Klook app and search for your destination's eSIM, or open the travel eSIM section.
- Select your package. Pick the data allowance and validity, check the coverage and activation notes, then add it to your order.
- Enter booking details such as the traveller email where the voucher will be sent.
- Apply any discount. If you have eligible KlookCash, add it in the checkout's Discount section. Remember a promo code that is incompatible with your chosen payment method can cause a failed payment.
- Choose card payment on the checkout payment page and enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date, CVV and the billing details exactly as held on your Coinepay profile.
- Complete any 3-D Secure step. If an extra verification prompt appears, approve it through your Coinepay app or the method Coinepay uses for confirmation.
- Confirm and wait for both emails. Klook sends an order summary email first, then a separate booking confirmation with your eSIM voucher and installation instructions. Only the second email means your eSIM is ready to install.
You can review your purchase later under Bookings in the Klook app. In Account > Settings you can set your country/region, language and currency preferences, which affect the currency you are charged in.
Troubleshooting a declined or failed payment
If your card is declined, work through the causes below. Klook's own payment help points to checking the card number, expiry and CVV, confirming the card is authorised for online and international purchases, and making sure any promo code is compatible with your payment method; it also suggests trying another browser, app, card or method.
Insufficient balance
A booking cannot be split across cards or wallets, so the single Coinepay card must hold the full amount. Top up in the Coinepay app, leaving headroom for a possible issuer international-transaction fee, then retry.
Billing address or card detail mismatch
Enter the card number, expiry, CVV and billing details exactly as they appear in your Coinepay profile. A typo or a mismatched address is a common decline reason. Correct the details and try again.
3-D Secure not completed
If the verification prompt times out or is dismissed, the payment fails. Start the checkout again and approve the 3-D Secure confirmation promptly through Coinepay.
Merchant or region checks
Klook's accepted methods depend on currency, location, booking amount, promotion and product, and the checkout payment page is what ultimately decides. If card payment is not offered or is declined for your order, review your Klook currency and region settings so they match your real location and card, and try the Klook app if the website fails. Do not use a VPN or false location to work around a regional check. To confirm your Coinepay card is suitable for the purchase, contact Coinepay support.
Payment taken but booking unsuccessful
Klook acknowledges a payment can go through while the booking fails, and says it emails an explanation in that case. If no email arrives, Klook directs you to check the transaction status with your payment provider — here, your Coinepay transaction history. If a charge shows but no voucher arrives, contact Klook with your order details and keep an eye on your Coinepay statement.
Refunds and cancellation
Refund terms are set by the specific listing, so read the one you bought. Klook's travel-eSIM overview describes self-cancellation for a full refund if no data has been used within 180 days after booking confirmation, while a USA listing says you can cancel for a full refund before the eSIM connects; after connection, outcomes depend on usage and are at Klook's discretion. For an eligible cancellation, go to Bookings, open the booking and choose Apply for refund. Klook says refunds return to the original payment method and can take 3–14 days to appear — so a refund on a Klook eSIM paid with your Coinepay card will come back to that same card.

FAQ
Can I pay for a Klook eSIM with a Coinepay virtual card?
You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Klook's card checkout. Klook notes that accepted methods depend on the currency, location, amount, promotion and product, and that the checkout payment page decides what a given order accepts, so availability is not guaranteed for every purchase. Make sure your card is verified and funded, and contact Coinepay support if you want to confirm it meets a requirement before buying.
Is a Klook eSIM a recurring subscription I need to cancel?
No. Klook sells destination-specific eSIM packages as one-time purchases, not a recurring subscription, so there is no automatic renewal. You pay once, and you can cancel an eligible booking under Bookings before the eSIM is used, subject to the listing's refund terms.
Why was my Coinepay card declined at Klook checkout?
Common causes are insufficient balance (a booking can't be split across cards), a billing address or card detail mismatch, an incomplete 3-D Secure step, an incompatible promo code, or Klook's region and payment checks. Verify your details, ensure the card is authorised for online international purchases, top up if needed, and try the Klook app. Contact Coinepay support if the card still fails.
Will a refund for my Klook eSIM go back to my Coinepay card?
Yes. Klook says refunds return to the original payment method, so a Klook eSIM paid with your Coinepay card is refunded to that same card. Klook states refunds can take 3–14 days to appear. Start an eligible refund under Bookings, open the booking, and choose Apply for refund.
Do I need anything besides the card to use a Klook eSIM?
Yes. You need a Klook account, a compatible and carrier-unlocked phone that supports eSIM, and a region-appropriate package since coverage is product-specific. Klook says an eSIM cannot be activated on a carrier-locked device, so confirm your phone before you buy.
