Verizon TravelPass lets an eligible Verizon mobile line keep its own number, calls and data while travelling abroad. One important thing to understand before you reach for a card: TravelPass is a feature of a Verizon mobile line, not a separate travel-SIM checkout. There is no standalone "buy TravelPass" cart. Instead, the daily fee is charged to your Verizon account, so a card comes into play when you pay your postpaid bill or add funds to a prepaid balance. This guide explains how that works with a Coinepay virtual card and how to troubleshoot a declined payment.
How TravelPass is actually billed
Knowing which version you have decides where your card is used:
- Postpaid TravelPass – using your phone in a covered destination starts a 24-hour session and the daily fee is added to your monthly Verizon bill. There is no per-day card checkout; your card simply pays the bill the charge lands on.
- Prepaid TravelPass – the daily fee is deducted from your prepaid balance when a session starts. If your balance is too low, Verizon asks you to add funds, and that is where you enter a card.
- 3 TravelPass Days – an optional $10/month per-line perk that adds three days each billing cycle. Its $10 recurring charge appears on your monthly mobile bill.
At the time of writing (October 2026), Verizon lists TravelPass at $6/day in Canada and Mexico and $12/day in other covered destinations, with 5 GB of high-speed data per 24-hour session. Prices and plan names change, so confirm the current rate on Verizon's official TravelPass page before you travel.
What you need before you start
- A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you are new, register here and finish verification first.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its number, expiry date and CVV visible in the Coinepay app (iOS / Android).
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the Verizon bill or the prepaid top-up, plus any taxes and fees.
- Your My Verizon login, and Account Owner or Manager access if you need to change plan or payment settings.
- Your real billing address, exactly as it appears on your Coinepay account.
Verizon lists Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express credit/debit cards (plus checking accounts and certain ATM cards) for postpaid bill payment, and Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express credit cards for adding prepaid funds. Whether Verizon accepts your specific foreign-issued card for a TravelPass-related payment is not something this guide can confirm for you. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you rely on it.
Step 1: Add or confirm TravelPass on your line
For postpaid, open My Verizon → Account → My plan → International details → Add new plan → Travel Plan, follow the Trip Planner, or text TRAVEL to 4004. TravelPass is already added to Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Welcome lines, and eligible prepaid lines usually have it added automatically. To enroll in the 3 TravelPass Days perk, select it with an eligible Simplicity, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Welcome line, or add it later in My Verizon.
Step 2: Save your Coinepay card as a payment method
Postpaid bill payment
- Go to My Verizon → Payment settings / payment methods on the website, or Me → Bill overview → Payment settings in the app.
- Choose to add a card and enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV from the Coinepay app.
- Enter the billing name and address exactly as held on your Coinepay account.
- Save the card, then use it to pay the bill that your TravelPass daily fee appears on.
Note on Auto Pay: Verizon's postpaid Auto Pay and paper-free discount generally requires a bank account or the Verizon Visa Card, with a grandfathered debit-card exception for enrollments before February 14, 2024. You can still make one-time bill payments with a saved card even if it does not qualify for that discount.
Prepaid top-up
- In My Verizon, open the option to add account funds or refill your prepaid balance.
- Enter your Coinepay card details and your real billing address.
- Add enough funds to cover upcoming TravelPass days; the daily fee is pulled from this balance when a session starts.
Step 3: Confirm and keep your records
After payment, check that the balance or bill updates in My Verizon and keep the confirmation. In the Coinepay app you can match the charge against your card activity. The amount you see should reflect Verizon's daily rate and any taxes and fees for your destination.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Insufficient balance
Verizon charges TravelPass per 24-hour session and may add taxes and fees. Make sure your Coinepay card has enough available balance for the full bill or top-up before you submit. For prepaid, a low balance will simply prompt Verizon to ask you to add funds.
Billing address or ZIP mismatch
Prepaid users have reported messages such as "Your zip code is invalid" when the card address did not match. Enter the billing address and postal/ZIP code exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account, with no abbreviations that differ from your records.
Per-cycle funding limits
Some prepaid users have seen "You cannot add any more funds to your account this monthly cycle" or a message about being "above the amount that I am allowed to add." These point to Verizon account limits rather than a card problem, so wait for the next cycle or contact Verizon about your funding cap.
3-D Secure / verification step
If the payment needs an extra confirmation, approve it promptly through the Coinepay app and keep notifications switched on so you do not miss the prompt.
Card type or region checks
Verizon only lists specific card brands for bill payment and prepaid funding, and whether it accepts a particular foreign-issued card for a TravelPass payment is not confirmed. One prepaid user even reported an in-app "transaction declined" message while their issuer found no decline, which shows the cause can sit on the merchant side. If your card is rejected, do not create fake details or try to mask your location. Instead, confirm your Verizon account standing and contact Coinepay support to check your card is suitable for this payment.
Cancelling and refunds
You can remove postpaid TravelPass in My Verizon → Account → My plan → International details → Remove plan, choosing Today or Next bill. Removal does not by itself refund a session that has already started. The 3 TravelPass Days perk renews monthly until cancelled; cancelling mid-cycle does not prorate the $10 charge, and Verizon says that charge is not refunded if service is cancelled or the line is suspended during the cycle. Verizon's customer agreement also states that prepaid customers are not entitled to a refund of an account balance. Review the current TravelPass FAQ before you cancel.
A note on coverage
Postpaid TravelPass covers 210+ destinations and Prepaid TravelPass covers 140+; cruise-ship service and unlisted destinations are not covered, and a compatible world device is required. Check Verizon's destination-specific coverage and pricing for your trip before you pay, so your card charge matches the service you expect.

FAQ
Is there a separate TravelPass checkout where I enter my card?
No. TravelPass is a feature of an eligible Verizon mobile line, not a standalone purchase. For postpaid, the daily fee is added to your monthly Verizon bill, which your card pays; for prepaid, it is deducted from your prepaid balance, which you top up with a card.
Which cards does Verizon accept for TravelPass-related payments?
Verizon lists Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express credit/debit cards (plus checking accounts and some ATM cards) for postpaid bill payment, and Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express credit cards for prepaid funding. Whether your specific foreign-issued card is accepted is not confirmed, so contact Coinepay support to check before relying on it.
Why was my card declined when adding prepaid funds?
Common causes include insufficient balance, a billing address or ZIP that does not match your card record, a per-cycle funding limit message like "You cannot add any more funds to your account this monthly cycle," or a missed 3-D Secure confirmation. Verify your details and account standing, and contact Coinepay support if the issue persists.
Can I use a Coinepay card for Verizon Auto Pay?
Verizon's postpaid Auto Pay and paper-free discount generally requires a bank account or the Verizon Visa Card, with a grandfathered debit-card exception for enrollments before February 14, 2024. You can still make one-time bill payments with a saved card even if it does not qualify for that discount.
Will I get a refund if I remove TravelPass?
Removing postpaid TravelPass does not by itself refund a session that has already started. The 3 TravelPass Days perk's $10 charge is not prorated or refunded on mid-cycle cancellation, and Verizon says prepaid account balances are not refundable. Check Verizon's current TravelPass FAQ for the latest terms.
