3CX is a business communications platform offering phone system, video and chat. If you are ready to move from a free trial to a paid licence, you can pay for 3CX online using a Coinepay virtual card. This guide walks through what you need, how the 3CX checkout works, and how to troubleshoot the most common reasons a card is declined.
What you need before you start
- A registered and verified Coinepay account. If you do not have one yet, create your Coinepay account and complete identity verification (KYC) first, since card services require it.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV, all of which appear instantly in the Coinepay app once the card is issued.
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the full annual licence price plus any applicable tax or VAT.
- Your real billing details (name, address, country) that match your Coinepay account, and access to your phone or email for 3-D Secure verification.
- A 3CX account and a decision on which edition you want.
Coinepay cards can be used for software and online subscriptions, which is the category 3CX falls under. Whether any particular merchant accepts a given card depends on the merchant's own checkout rules, so if you are unsure, contact Coinepay support before you buy.
Choose your 3CX edition
According to the 3CX pricing FAQ, the current editions are 3CX SMB Free, 3CX Basic, 3CX PRO and 3CX AI (the price page labels the last one the 3CX AI Edition). Key points to know:
- 3CX SMB Free is free for up to 10 users. The FAQ allows one PRO trial and up to three SMB Free subscriptions per account. SMB Free users manage their system in the Admin Console and no longer receive Customer Portal access.
- 3CX Basic 4SC Free is a separate self-managed free option limited to 10 extensions; Basic also has paid sizes.
- Paid licences are priced per system, per year, by edition and simultaneous-call (SC) capacity, not per seat. Optional 3CX hosting is billed separately.
For reference, viewed on the official price page on October 20, 2026, a 16SC annual licence was shown in US dollars at Basic $600, PRO $795 and AI $1,095 before tax and optional hosting; the Australian-dollar table showed Basic A$965, PRO A$1,280 and AI A$1,760, with hosting at A$725/year at that size. Prices vary by region and currency, exclude applicable tax, and can differ temporarily from the cart, so always confirm the figure on 3CX's official pricing page and in the checkout before you pay. 3CX also announced licence-price reductions on October 14, 2026 (10% at 24SC+, 15% at 256SC+, and an extra 10% for qualifying three-year renewals; hosting excluded).
Create or issue your Coinepay virtual card
- Sign in to the Coinepay app (iOS or Google Play) or the 24/7 self-service dashboard.
- Issue a virtual card and top it up with enough balance for the annual licence and tax.
- Open the card details to view the card number, expiry and CVV. Keep them ready for checkout.
If you run a business and want to keep communications spending separate from, say, advertising, you can issue a dedicated virtual card for 3CX and set a custom spending limit on it.
Step-by-step: buy a 3CX licence
- Go to the official 3CX website and either start from the Try path (SMB, self-managed PRO or 3CX-hosted trial) or go straight to the pricing page's Buy Now route. The PRO and hosted trials specify business-email and phone verification.
- Select your edition and SC capacity, and choose whether to add 3CX hosting.
- Proceed to checkout. Review the final total shown in the cart, including tax, before paying – the checkout price is the one to trust.
- Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV when prompted for card payment. Credit-card payment is confirmed in 3CX's October 14, 2026 announcement. (US ACH pay-by-bank and European open-banking methods were announced for 2027, not as current options.)
- Enter billing details that match your Coinepay account exactly.
- Complete any 3-D Secure step. You may receive a prompt in the Coinepay app or by one-time code; approve it to authorise the payment.
- Accept the EULA. A completed order requires checkout, successful payment and EULA acceptance.
Note that 3CX subscriptions are paid upfront for a fixed term of one or more years and do not renew automatically. The licence owner renews manually through a 3CX account using the licence-registration email; you can check the licence owner and expiry in the system's licence details. Mid-term capacity or edition upgrades are prorated against remaining validity.
Troubleshooting common card declines
Insufficient balance
Because paid licences are billed as a full year upfront, the charge can be large. Confirm your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the licence price plus tax, then top up in the app and retry.
Billing address mismatch
If the name or address you enter does not match the details on file, the payment can fail. Use your real billing information exactly as it appears on your Coinepay account. 3CX account menus vary by account type – a 2025 forum report noted the Orders menu was not visible for every account type – so if you cannot find where to update details, use the 3CX contact form.
3-D Secure authentication
In a 2023 case, 3CX staff attributed some failures to cards or banks using older 3DS1 rather than 3DS2 authentication; whether that is still a current rule is not confirmed. To avoid interruption, complete the 3-D Secure prompt promptly. If you do not see one, check the Coinepay app for a pending approval.
Interrupted payment leaves an order pending
If card-provider communication is interrupted or verification is not completed, an order can be left pending. Users have reported the message: “The provided license key has unpaid orders. You should pay these orders or cancel them before creating a new order for this key.” 3CX staff advise that Customer Service may need to check or cancel the stuck order before you can create a new one – contact 3CX through their support channel rather than repeatedly retrying.
Merchant region checks
3CX says its services are globally available subject to legal and technical limits, and 3CX-hosted service is available in over 50 countries; a definitive country-by-country checkout list is not published. If checkout blocks your region, that is a 3CX restriction you cannot work around – use your real location and details. If you suspect your card itself is the issue, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable before trying again.
Refunds and cancellation
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid term; access continues until expiry, with no partial refund for unused time unless law requires. Activated, delivered or provisioned licences are generally non-refundable, with stated exceptions for applicable law, billing errors, duplicate payment and an unremediable defect. Report suspected billing errors within 14 days of billing via the contact form's Ordering category. Eligible EU consumers whose service has not been activated may request withdrawal within 14 days, though starting digital delivery can remove that right. Reseller purchases follow the reseller's policy.

FAQ
Which 3CX plan can I pay for with a Coinepay virtual card?
You can pay for any paid 3CX licence – Basic, PRO or AI Edition – at the official checkout. SMB Free and Basic 4SC Free are free and need no payment. Paid licences are billed per system, per year, by SC capacity, with hosting optional and separate.
Does 3CX accept virtual cards?
Credit-card payment is confirmed by 3CX. Whether a specific card is accepted depends on 3CX's checkout rules, which do not publish current accepted networks or card types. Enter your Coinepay card details at checkout, and if you are unsure, contact Coinepay support first.
Why was my 3CX payment declined?
Common causes are insufficient card balance for the full annual price plus tax, a billing address that does not match your details, an incomplete 3-D Secure step, or a region restriction. Fix the cause and retry; if an order is stuck as pending, contact 3CX Customer Service.
Will my 3CX subscription renew automatically on my card?
No. 3CX subscriptions are paid upfront for a fixed term of one or more years and do not renew automatically. The licence owner renews manually through a 3CX account using the licence-registration email.
Can I get a refund if I cancel 3CX?
Cancellation takes effect at term end with no partial refund for unused time unless law requires. Activated or provisioned licences are generally non-refundable, with exceptions such as billing errors or duplicate payment. Report billing errors within 14 days via the Ordering contact form.
