DhiraaguPay is a mobile money wallet used in the Maldives, operated by Dhiraagu Fintech Pvt Ltd. If you have family, friends or a business partner in the Maldives, you can use Coinepay Global Remittance to send money that lands in their wallet. This guide explains what DhiraaguPay is, the recipient details you need to collect, how to complete the transfer in the Coinepay app, and what to do if something goes wrong.
About DhiraaguPay and the currency you are sending to
DhiraaguPay holds e-money denominated in Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR), where one e-money unit equals MVR 1. When you send from abroad with Coinepay, you fund the transfer in your own currency and your recipient receives the local payout. Coinepay supports multi-currency transfers, and the exchange rate and any fees are shown clearly in the app before you confirm, so there are no surprises.
DhiraaguPay was relaunched on an upgraded platform in early 2025 with a new app, migrated balances, and peer-to-peer and Favara transfers. Because the service continues to change, treat the steps below as a general flow and follow the exact prompts you see in the Coinepay app at the time of sending.
What you need from your recipient
To avoid a failed or misdirected transfer, confirm these details with the person in the Maldives before you start:
- Registered mobile number. DhiraaguPay sends and receives money by mobile number. Maldives mobile numbers are seven digits; Dhiraagu numbers typically begin 71X XXXX–79X XXXX and Ooredoo numbers 91X XXXX–99X XXXX. Ask whether the Coinepay payout field expects the seven-digit number or a +960 country prefix, and enter it exactly as required.
- Full name exactly as registered. The name on the DhiraaguPay wallet must match what you enter. A mismatch is a common reason a mobile wallet payout is held or returned.
- An active, verified wallet. The recipient should have a registered, activated DhiraaguPay wallet that can receive e-money. Registration requires being at least 18 and completing identity verification with DhiraaguPay.
Double-check every digit of the number. DhiraaguPay's own terms place responsibility on the sender for the recipient and amount, and exclude the provider's responsibility for transfers that reach an unintended recipient because of a data-entry error.
Before you start with Coinepay
You need a Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you are new, create your Coinepay account, then download the app for iOS or Android. All transfers are managed from the 24/7 self-service dashboard and the mobile app.
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and may ask for supporting documents, such as the purpose of the transfer or your source of funds. The Maldives is a supported destination; have your information ready so any review clears quickly.
Step by step: send to a DhiraaguPay wallet
- Start a new transfer. In the Coinepay app, open Global Remittance and choose to send money.
- Select the destination. Choose the Maldives as the destination country so the local payout options appear.
- Choose the mobile wallet payout method. Select DhiraaguPay from the mobile wallet options. Coinepay also supports bank deposit and cash pickup in many markets, but for this guide pick the DhiraaguPay wallet route.
- Enter the recipient details. Type the registered mobile number and the recipient's full name exactly as held by DhiraaguPay. Add any other fields the app requests.
- Enter the amount. You can usually enter either the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive in MVR.
- Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the rate, any fees and the final amount your recipient will get, plus the estimated arrival time, before you confirm. Read this summary carefully.
- Confirm and authenticate. Approve the transfer using your Coinepay security method. Once submitted, the transfer is sent for processing and screening.
Tracking the transfer and how your recipient sees it
Every Coinepay transfer has status tracking. Open the transaction in the app to follow its progress from submitted through to paid out. You will see the estimated arrival time shown before you confirmed.
On the DhiraaguPay side, the recipient's e-money balance increases when the payout settles. DhiraaguPay confirms successful transactions by SMS and/or an in-app notification, so ask your recipient to check both. If they do not see anything, have them refresh the wallet and confirm they gave you the correct registered number and name.
How fast does it arrive?
Coinepay transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country. Mobile wallet payouts are often quick, while screening, local processing or the recipient's wallet status can add time. The estimate you see in the app before you confirm is your best guide.
Recipient wallet limits and verification
DhiraaguPay wallets are subject to transaction and balance limits, and the Maldives Monetary Authority requires e-money providers to operate within regulated limits. A transfer above the applicable DhiraaguPay limit will not be processed, and limits can differ by the recipient's verification level. The exact current figures are set by DhiraaguPay, so if you are sending a larger amount, ask your recipient to confirm their wallet can receive it before you send.
Troubleshooting
Wrong number entered
If you realise the number is wrong, check the status in Coinepay immediately and contact Coinepay support. If the payout has not yet completed, it may be possible to stop it. Remember that DhiraaguPay's terms do not hold the provider responsible for transfers sent to an unintended recipient due to sender error, so accuracy before you confirm is essential.
Name mismatch
If the recipient name does not match the registered wallet, the payout can be delayed, held or returned. Ask your recipient for the exact name on their DhiraaguPay account and re-check what you entered.
Wallet limit reached
If the recipient has hit a per-transfer, daily or balance limit, the payout cannot be credited. Your recipient may need to wait for the limit to reset or raise their verification level with DhiraaguPay. You can also check whether sending a smaller amount works.
Unverified or inactive wallet
A wallet that is not fully verified, or a number tied to an inactive or cancelled SIM, may not be able to receive money. DhiraaguPay can also restrict wallets after prolonged inactivity. Ask your recipient to confirm their wallet is active and verified, then retry.
Compliance review
Coinepay may pause a transfer for identity verification or sanctions screening, and may request documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Respond promptly and accurately. Never split a transfer, route it through a third party, or take any step to avoid checks or reporting, and never try to send to a sanctioned person or jurisdiction.
