Etihad Airways sells flight tickets rather than a fixed-price subscription. You can search for a flight, choose a fare and enter your Coinepay virtual card details if a suitable card payment option appears at checkout. This guide covers what to prepare, how to complete a booking and what to check if the payment is declined.
What you need before booking
- A verified Coinepay account: Register and complete identity verification before using card services. You can get started with Coinepay and manage your card in its 24/7 self-service dashboard or mobile app.
- Your virtual card details: Coinepay provides a card number, expiry date and CVV when a virtual card is issued. Check the app for the details and the available funds before starting checkout.
- Your travel and billing details: Have each passenger’s name and other required travel information ready. Enter your real identity and your actual billing details; do not change them to try to pass a regional or card check.
- Room for the full checkout total: Review the amount and currency Etihad displays, including any extras you select. If you are unsure whether your available funds cover the transaction, check the Coinepay app before paying.
Etihad’s displayed currency and payment methods depend on where you make the purchase. Its listed card options vary by market, and only the methods available for your transaction appear at checkout. A listed card category does not, by itself, establish that a particular Coinepay card will be accepted. If eligibility is unclear, contact Coinepay support before you buy.
Choose an Etihad flight and fare
On the Etihad Airways website, search using your departure city, destination, dates and passenger details. Review the available itineraries and select the flight that fits your plans. The current fare names are Economy Basic, Value, Comfort and Deluxe; Business Value, Comfort and Deluxe; and First Comfort and Deluxe. Availability and prices depend on the itinerary, so compare the fare details shown for the flights you actually select.
Pay particular attention to the cancellation conditions before choosing. Under the ordinary fare rules, Economy Basic and Value and Business Value are not cancellable; Economy Comfort, Business Comfort and First Comfort carry cancellation fees; and the corresponding Deluxe fares permit cancellation without a cancellation fee. Applicable legal rights and your ticket’s specific rules may change the outcome. Etihad also publishes different Economy fare-inclusion tables for tickets issued before June 18, 2026, and tickets issued from that date, so check the table relevant to your ticket when comparing benefits.
If you want to collect loyalty benefits, you can join Etihad Guest online or during booking. Bronze is free to join; Silver, Gold, Platinum and Emerald are loyalty tiers earned through qualifying activity, not monthly subscriptions you need to buy for checkout. You do not need to confuse an Etihad Guest membership with your ticket’s fare type.
How to pay with your Coinepay virtual card
- Prepare your card. Sign in to your Coinepay account, confirm identity verification is complete, and view your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Check the funds available in the app. Coinepay’s iOS app and Android app are available if you prefer to use a phone.
- Search and select on Etihad Airways. Choose your flights, then compare the offered fare brands. Read the baggage, seat-selection, change and cancellation information presented for your itinerary rather than assuming every Economy or Business ticket has the same terms.
- Enter passenger and contact information. Use each traveller’s correct details and provide contact information you can access for booking updates and any payment verification. If you choose to join or sign in to Etihad Guest during booking, follow the prompts shown there.
- Review the total. Check the final price, currency and any selected extras. Etihad ordinarily allows one payment method per transaction, although it permits specified combinations of Etihad Guest Miles or Etihad Money with a card. Do not assume you can divide an ordinary card payment across multiple cards.
- Select the available card option. If Etihad offers an appropriate card payment method for your purchase, enter the Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV. Provide your real billing details where requested and check for typing errors before submitting.
- Complete any verification. Follow any cardholder-verification step presented during payment. Do not repeatedly submit the transaction if you are unsure whether the first attempt completed; first check the booking result and your Coinepay activity.
- Save the booking details. After Etihad confirms the purchase, keep its booking reference and ticket information. Check that the passenger names and itinerary are correct.
Etihad may require cardholder verification. Its terms warn that an unverifiable payment card could result in a cancelled booking or a passenger being refused travel unless a new ticket is paid for. If you receive a verification request after booking, respond through Etihad’s stated process rather than assuming a payment confirmation ends all checks.
If Etihad declines your card
A decline does not identify the cause on its own. Etihad names incorrect card details, an expired card and insufficient funds among common reasons. Work through the checks below, and record any message you see so support can investigate it. The exact message may vary.
| Possible cause | What to do |
|---|---|
| Insufficient available funds | Compare the checkout total and currency with the funds shown in Coinepay. Account for extras you added, then use the app to check your funding options before trying again. |
| Incorrect or expired card details | Re-enter the card number, expiry date and CVV from Coinepay. Check each digit and confirm that the card details you used are current. |
| Billing details do not match | Review the name and billing information entered at Etihad checkout. Correct mistakes using your genuine details; do not substitute an address in another country. |
| Cardholder or 3-D Secure verification does not finish | Follow the verification prompt shown during checkout and check whether it timed out or was left incomplete. If you cannot complete it, contact Coinepay support with the time and amount of the attempted payment, without sharing your CVV. |
| Merchant or regional payment checks | Confirm that the card option is offered for your purchase location and transaction. Etihad’s payment choices vary by market. If checkout rejects the card or asks for further verification, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets the applicable requirement before you buy. |
Etihad lists card categories including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club and UATP, with additional local options in some markets. This list describes Etihad’s payment options, not the characteristics of your Coinepay card or a promise of acceptance. If Etihad instructs you to contact the card issuer about a decline, send Coinepay support the attempted amount, currency, time and any displayed message. Never send your full card number or CVV in an ordinary support message.
After purchase: extras, changes and refunds
For an issued ticket, use Etihad’s Manage your booking area to view the trip and purchase eligible extras with a new payment method. You cannot change the original ticket’s payment method after issue. Check the ticket’s own fare conditions before requesting a change or cancellation, especially if your booking combines fare brands: Etihad says the most restrictive rule applies to such cancellations.
A qualifying US booking made at least seven days before departure can receive a full refund if cancelled within 24 hours of booking. Otherwise, do not assume a cooling-off period applies. Etihad’s published guidance differs on some near-departure deadlines: its FAQ refers to a four-hour cutoff for changing or cancelling a booking, while its terms describe certain exchanges and eligible online refund requests until two hours before departure. Check the rules for your ticket and contact Etihad promptly if departure is close.
Approved refunds normally go back to the original payment method. If Etihad offers you an eligible refund as Etihad Money instead, read that choice carefully: it is non-cash, non-transferable, expires 12 months after issue and cannot be switched back to an original-method refund once selected. Etihad Money is separate from your Coinepay card. To view an Etihad Wallet balance, sign in to Etihad Guest and select Etihad Money in your profile; eligible balances can be used by selecting Etihad Wallet at checkout.

FAQ
Do I need an Etihad Guest subscription to buy a flight?
No. Etihad sells tickets, not a required monthly subscription. Etihad Guest Bronze is free to join, while higher loyalty tiers are earned through qualifying activity.
Why was my Coinepay card declined at Etihad checkout?
Check the available funds, card details, expiry date and genuine billing information. Also complete any verification prompt and confirm the card option is available for your transaction. Contact Coinepay support if the cause remains unclear.
Can I change the card used for an Etihad ticket after purchase?
No. Etihad says the original ticket’s payment method cannot be changed after issue. You can use Manage your booking to buy eligible extras with a new payment method.
Where does an approved Etihad refund go?
It normally returns to the original payment method. An eligible customer may instead choose Etihad Money, but that choice cannot later be switched back to an original-method refund.
