Zeepay is an electronic money service operated by Zeepay Ghana Limited under a Bank of Ghana licence that covers peer-to-peer and international money transfers. A Zeepay Wallet is an electronic account linked to a recipient's mobile number, mainly used in Ghana. If you are living or working abroad and want to top up a family member's or partner's Zeepay Wallet, Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send a cross-border transfer and have it paid out to a supported mobile wallet. This guide walks through what you need, how to send, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Before you start, you'll need a Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) complete. If you don't have one yet, register with Coinepay and download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Everything below is managed from the Coinepay app or the 24/7 self-service dashboard.

Where Zeepay is used and in what currency

Zeepay's wallet service is most established in Ghana, where payouts are made in Ghanaian cedi (GHS). Zeepay's own developer documentation also names mobile-wallet networks in several other markets, including Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Guinea, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, Senegal, DR Congo, Malawi and Kenya, while Nigeria is listed for bank transfers and Zimbabwe for cash pickup. That is integration documentation, not a guarantee that every route is open to a given consumer. The destinations, currencies and payout methods actually available to you are the ones Coinepay shows in the app when you set up the transfer, so always let the app confirm what is supported for your recipient.

What you need from the recipient

A mobile-wallet payout is identified by the recipient's details, not an IBAN. Collect the following before you begin:

  • Registered mobile number. This is the number the Zeepay Wallet (or recipient mobile-money account) is registered to. The money is credited to the account tied to that number, so double-check every digit and the country code.
  • Full legal name exactly as registered. Zeepay's validation returns the account holder's registered name, and the name on your transfer should match it. Nicknames or abbreviations can cause a name mismatch.
  • The mobile-network operator (MNO) and destination country. Zeepay uses the receiving country and mobile-network operator to verify the wallet, so make sure you know which network the number belongs to.

Remember that the recipient must have an active, registered wallet to receive a direct credit. Someone with no registered mobile-money service may instead receive an SMS token to withdraw cash at an agent, which is not the same as a wallet top-up.

Step by step: sending to a Zeepay wallet with Coinepay

  1. Open Coinepay and start a transfer. In the app or dashboard, choose Global Remittance and select the destination country where the Zeepay wallet is held.
  2. Choose the mobile wallet payout method. Pick the mobile-wallet (mobile money) option rather than bank deposit or cash pickup, then select the recipient's network so the payout routes correctly.
  3. Enter the recipient's details. Type the registered mobile number and the recipient's full name exactly as it appears on their Zeepay account. If Coinepay shows a confirmed account name, check that it matches the person you intend to pay.
  4. Enter the amount. You can usually enter either the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive. The app will calculate the other side.
  5. Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the exchange rate, any fees and the final payout amount clearly before you confirm. Review the estimated arrival time shown on the same screen too.
  6. Confirm. Once the details look right, confirm the transfer. You may be asked to verify your identity again or answer questions about the purpose or source of funds; this is part of standard compliance.
  7. Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app. You can follow it from processing through to paid, and you'll be notified when the payout completes.

How fast it arrives and how the recipient sees it

Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country, so treat the estimate shown in the app before you confirm as your guide. When the payout completes, the recipient's wallet balance increases and they typically get an SMS or in-app notification from their mobile-money provider. They can then spend the balance, send it on, or cash out at an agent according to their provider's rules.

Wallet limits and verification levels

Mobile-money accounts in Ghana carry daily limits that depend on the account's KYC level. The Bank of Ghana sets tiered limits for minimum-, medium- and enhanced-KYC mobile-money accounts, with higher ceilings for more fully verified accounts. The specific figures are set by regulation and by the recipient's provider, and a product-level or recipient-network limit may be lower, so exact ceilings should be confirmed with the recipient and their wallet provider rather than assumed. In practical terms: if your recipient has only completed basic verification, a large payout may not fit within their daily or balance limit, and they may need to upgrade their KYC level first. Zeepay customers in Ghana can register an active SIM by dialling *270# and complete verification with legal name, date of birth, photo ID, address and mobile number.

Troubleshooting

Wrong mobile number

If you send to the wrong number, contact Coinepay support immediately and ask them to help. On Zeepay's side, reversal requests go to the receiving network, and recovery can depend on network policy, whether the recipient consents and whether the funds are still available. Reversal is not guaranteed, so always verify the number before confirming.

Name mismatch

If the recipient name you entered does not match the registered account holder, the payout can be held or rejected. Ask the recipient for their name exactly as registered with their provider and re-enter it. Contact Coinepay support if the transfer is stuck.

Wallet limit reached

If the payout would push the recipient over their daily or balance limit, it may fail. Ask the recipient to check their available limit with their provider; they may need to upgrade their verification level or wait until the next day.

Unverified or dormant wallet

An unverified or inactive wallet may not be able to receive funds. Zeepay treats a wallet with no registered transaction for at least 12 consecutive months as dormant, and a dormant wallet cannot receive funds until it is reactivated through support. Ask your recipient to confirm their wallet is active and verified before you send again.

Compliance review

All transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and may ask for documents such as the purpose or source of funds. If your transfer is under review, respond promptly with any requested information. Coinepay does not send to sanctioned persons or to jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.

Get help

If a transfer is delayed, held or you entered the wrong details, reach Coinepay support or the Coinepay community on Telegram. Keep your transfer reference handy so the team can locate it quickly. You can review full details and status any time from the Coinepay app or dashboard.

FAQ

What details do I need to send money to a Zeepay wallet?

You need the recipient's registered mobile number, their full legal name exactly as registered on the wallet, the mobile-network operator and the destination country. Coinepay uses these to verify and route the mobile-wallet payout.

How long does a transfer to Zeepay take to arrive?

Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country. Coinepay shows an estimated arrival time before you confirm the transfer.

What happens if I send to the wrong number?

Contact Coinepay support right away. Reversal requests are sent to the receiving network, but recovery can depend on network policy, recipient consent and whether the funds remain available, so reversal is not guaranteed. Always double-check the number first.

Why was my transfer to Zeepay held or rejected?

Common reasons include a name that doesn't match the registered account, the recipient hitting their daily or balance limit, an unverified or dormant wallet, or a compliance review. Check the status in the app and respond to any requests from Coinepay.

Can the recipient receive money without a registered wallet?

A direct wallet credit needs an active, registered account. Someone with no registered mobile-money service may instead get an SMS token to withdraw cash at an agent, which is not the same as topping up an existing wallet.
