If someone in India asks you to send money to “BHIM,” first check where they expect to receive it. BHIM, short for Bharat Interface for Money, is a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) app, not a conventional stored-value mobile wallet. A BHIM payment typically reaches a linked bank account. If the recipient expects a separate wallet balance to increase, confirm the correct payout route before starting a Coinepay Global Remittance transfer.
What destination details do you need?
BHIM is used in India, where the recipient receives funds in Indian rupees (INR). Ask the recipient for their full name exactly as registered with the account or wallet provider and a destination identifier they have checked. Depending on the payout option available in Coinepay, that may be a UPI ID, also called a virtual payment address (VPA), or a mobile number registered for UPI. A phone number alone is not enough unless it identifies the intended UPI destination.
Ask the recipient to confirm whether they want the money in a bank account linked to BHIM or in a separate UPI-capable wallet. For a wallet, they should obtain its UPI ID or QR details from the wallet provider and confirm with that provider that the identifier accepts incoming payments into the wallet balance. A wallet’s UPI capability, or its ability to appear in a UPI app, does not by itself establish where a particular payment will land.
Keep the recipient’s name and identifier as they provide them. Do not substitute another person’s details or guess an ID from a phone number. If they cannot confirm the receiving destination, pause and ask them to check their provider’s instructions.
How to send the transfer with Coinepay
- Open Coinepay. Sign in through the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. If you are new, register and complete the identity verification requested for your transfer. The app is available for iOS and Android.
- Start a Global Remittance transfer to India. Select India as the destination and review the available payout methods. If a BHIM-labelled option appears, check its instructions for the receiving identifier. Otherwise, look for a suitable UPI or mobile-wallet payout option only if its instructions identify the recipient’s intended destination. Do not assume that any mobile-wallet option credits a BHIM-linked bank account, or that a BHIM identifier credits a separate wallet.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Use the requested UPI ID or UPI-registered phone number, together with the recipient’s full registered name. Follow the fields shown in the app; a destination may require different details depending on the payout method. Compare every character of a UPI ID and check the phone number with the recipient before proceeding.
- Review the transfer. Check the displayed recipient, destination, payout method and amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Make sure the destination matches where the recipient expects to see the funds, not merely an account they also use with BHIM.
- Confirm and track it. Confirm only when the details are correct. Coinepay provides status tracking for each transfer; keep its reference information so you can discuss a problem with support without starting a duplicate payment.
If the app does not show a payout route whose instructions fit the recipient’s destination, do not select a vaguely similar option. Contact Coinepay support to ask which available method, if any, is appropriate for the details the recipient has supplied.
How will the recipient see the money arrive?
The answer depends on the actual receiving destination. For a transfer to a bank account linked to BHIM, ask the recipient to check that bank account’s balance and transaction history. They can also check BHIM’s Transactions section for any relevant UPI activity, but should not treat an expected BHIM notification as proof that a cross-border payout has been credited. For a transfer intended for a separate wallet, the recipient should check that provider’s balance and incoming-transaction record.
Compare what the recipient sees with the destination and status recorded in Coinepay. A completed status on one side and an absent credit on the other needs investigation; it is not a reason to send the same amount again. Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual delivery time depends on the payout method and destination country. Check the estimated arrival time shown in the app before confirming.
BHIM, wallet verification and receiving limits
BHIM’s published transaction restrictions concern payments sent through BHIM from a linked bank account. They should not be read as a promise about how much a recipient can receive from abroad. Banks may also apply their own restrictions. If the recipient uses a separate wallet, its provider may set balance and transaction limits based on the wallet’s verification status and applicable rules. A wallet without the required verification or UPI capability may not be usable for the intended payout.
India’s rules distinguish full-identity-verified wallets from less-verified products. Eligible full-KYC wallets can participate in UPI interoperability, but whether a particular wallet can receive a transfer through a particular UPI ID remains a provider-specific question. Ask the recipient to check their wallet’s verification status, available balance capacity and incoming-payment instructions in the wallet app. Do not confuse that wallet with BHIM UPI LITE or BHIM’s Digital Rupee Wallet; they are separate facilities with their own terms.
Troubleshooting a BHIM or UPI payout
Wrong phone number or UPI ID
If you have not confirmed the transfer, correct the identifier first. A mobile number must be registered for the relevant UPI destination; knowing someone’s ordinary contact number does not establish that it points to the account they want paid. If you have already confirmed, check Coinepay’s transfer status and contact support promptly with the reference and the details you entered. Do not assume a completed payment can simply be reversed.
Recipient name does not match
Stop if the name presented for verification differs from the name the recipient gave you. Ask the recipient to confirm their full registered name and the identifier with their bank or wallet provider. BHIM advises users to verify a UPI ID and check the displayed recipient name before authorizing a BHIM payment; the same caution is useful when reviewing a Coinepay recipient.
Wallet limit reached or wallet not fully verified
Have the recipient check their provider’s current receiving rules, balance capacity and verification status. An available UPI ID does not guarantee that the wallet can accept this payment. Do not split a transfer or use somebody else’s wallet to work around a restriction. If necessary, ask Coinepay support whether a different, properly identified payout method is available before creating a new transfer.
Compliance review or missing credit
Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents about the transfer’s purpose or source of funds. Respond through the requested channel and follow the tracked status; do not submit a duplicate while a review is in progress. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
If Coinepay shows the transfer as completed but the recipient cannot find the credit, have them check the exact bank account or wallet identified by the payout details. Share the transfer reference with Coinepay support for investigation. If the recipient is examining a separate payment made within BHIM that failed or remains pending, BHIM has an in-app Report Issue route; that is distinct from reporting a Coinepay remittance problem.

FAQ
Is BHIM a mobile wallet?
No. BHIM is a UPI app, generally used with a linked bank account. A separate UPI-capable wallet may have different receiving instructions.
Can I send using only the recipient’s phone number?
Use a phone number only if it is registered for the intended UPI destination and the selected Coinepay payout method accepts it. Otherwise, ask for the correct UPI ID and the recipient’s full registered name.
Will a payment to a BHIM UPI ID appear in a wallet balance?
Do not assume so. Ask the recipient to confirm with their bank or wallet provider where that specific identifier receives payments.
What if Coinepay shows completed but the recipient sees no money?
Have the recipient check the destination account or wallet specified for the payout, then contact Coinepay support with the transfer reference. Avoid sending a duplicate while it is investigated.
