Upay (উপায়) is a mobile financial service in Bangladesh operated by UCB Fintech Company Limited. If you have family, friends or a payee in Bangladesh who uses Upay, you can send a cross-border transfer with Coinepay Global Remittance and have the money paid out in Bangladeshi taka (BDT) straight into their Upay wallet. This guide explains what Upay is, the recipient details you need, how to send step by step, how your recipient sees the money arrive, and what to do if something goes wrong.

What Upay is and how an overseas transfer reaches it

Upay is used in Bangladesh and pays out in BDT. Upay calls receiving money from overseas its Inward Remittance Service: an authorized foreign bank, app or money-transfer operator sends funds for local disbursement into the recipient's Upay wallet. Bangladesh's rules allow local payout of an inward foreign remittance through the banking channel, which is exactly how a mobile-wallet payout works.

When the money lands, Upay credits it to the recipient's Remittance Pocket. From there the recipient can use the balance for Upay services or cash out. Note that an overseas "send to Upay wallet" transfer deposits money into the Upay account itself — it is not a mobile top-up (airtime). If someone just needs phone credit, that is a different service.

Before you start, make sure you have registered with Coinepay and completed identity verification (KYC). You manage everything from the Coinepay app on iOS and Google Play or the 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you are new, you can create an account here.

What you need from your recipient

Collect these details from the person receiving the money before you begin:

  • The mobile number registered with Upay — enter it exactly as registered, with no prefix or suffix. Upay's own example format is 01711164444. This number acts as the account identifier for the payout.
  • The recipient's full name exactly as registered with Upay. A name that does not match the registered account can cause the payout to fail or be held.
  • Any additional details the flow requests, such as the recipient's address. You may also be asked for identity documents or the purpose and source of funds as part of compliance checks.

Double-check the number and spelling with your recipient directly. A single wrong digit sends the request to the wrong account identifier.

Step by step: send to Upay with Coinepay

  1. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and go to Global Remittance.
  2. Choose Bangladesh as the destination country and BDT as the payout currency.
  3. Select the mobile wallet payout method and choose Upay as the provider.
  4. Enter the recipient's registered Upay mobile number and their full name exactly as registered. Add any other details the form asks for.
  5. Enter the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive.
  6. Review the exchange rate and fees shown on screen before you confirm. Coinepay displays the rate and any fees clearly, along with the estimated arrival time, so you can see what your recipient will get before committing.
  7. Confirm the transfer. If prompted, supply any verification or source-of-funds information so the transfer can clear screening.

Once confirmed, every transfer has a status you can follow in the app.

Tracking the transfer and how your recipient sees it

After you confirm, track the transfer's status from your Coinepay transaction history. You will see it progress until the payout is completed on Upay's side. Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country; rely on the estimated arrival time shown in the app before you confirm rather than any fixed promise.

On the recipient's side, the money is credited to their Upay Remittance Pocket. They will typically receive a notification that an inward remittance has been received, and the balance becomes available to spend on Upay services or to cash out according to Upay's own rules.

Upay's published incoming limits

Upay publishes limits for its Inward Remittance Service. According to its remittance service information, incoming transfers are limited to BDT 250,000 per transaction, with 10 transactions and BDT 500,000 per day and 50 transactions and BDT 500,000 per month. Upay states that its amount limit includes any government incentive. These are inward-remittance limits, which are separate from ordinary wallet-to-wallet limits.

Limits and account rules can change and may depend on the recipient's verification level, so if a payout amount matters, have your recipient confirm their account status with Upay first. Coinepay shows its own applicable limits in the app before you confirm.

Troubleshooting

Wrong number

If the number entered is not the recipient's registered Upay number, the payout can fail or route incorrectly. Check the transfer status in Coinepay before resending, and confirm the exact registered number with your recipient.

Name mismatch

If the name does not match the name registered on the Upay account, the payout may be held or rejected. Re-enter the recipient's full name exactly as it appears on their Upay registration.

Wallet limit reached

If the recipient has hit a per-transaction, daily or monthly inward-remittance ceiling, the payout can't complete until capacity frees up. Confirm the amount is within Upay's limits and the recipient's account allows it.

Unverified or restricted wallet

An account that is not fully verified or is otherwise restricted may not be able to receive the funds. Ask your recipient to complete or check their Upay verification before you resend.

Compliance review

Every Coinepay transfer is subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Provide anything requested promptly so the review can clear. Never split a transfer, use a third party, or try any workaround to avoid these checks.

Still stuck?

Check the transfer status in Coinepay first. For questions about the Upay account or a credited payout, your recipient can contact Upay's 24/7 customer support on 16268 in Bangladesh. For anything about your transfer itself, reach Coinepay support or our Telegram.

A few reminders

Always use your own real identity and real billing details, and send only to a recipient and account you trust. Coinepay sends to every country and region except jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, and all customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists. Some services are not available in every jurisdiction. For current details on Upay's wallet, verification levels and payout rules, check Upay's official information, and for your transfer's rate, fees and limits, review what Coinepay shows in the app before you confirm.

FAQ

What details do I need to send money to a Upay account?

You need the recipient's mobile number registered with Upay (entered with no prefix or suffix, e.g. 01711164444) and their full name exactly as registered. You may also be asked for the recipient's address and identity or source-of-funds documents.

In which country and currency is Upay paid out?

Upay is a mobile financial service in Bangladesh, operated by UCB Fintech Company Limited, and overseas transfers are paid out in Bangladeshi taka (BDT) into the recipient's Upay wallet.

How fast does a transfer to Upay arrive?

Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Check the estimated arrival time shown in the Coinepay app before you confirm.

Are there limits on how much Upay can receive from abroad?

Upay publishes inward-remittance limits of BDT 250,000 per transaction, BDT 500,000 and 10 transactions per day, and BDT 500,000 and 50 transactions per month. Limits can change and depend on the recipient's account, so confirm with Upay if the amount matters.

The payout failed or is delayed — what should I do?

Common causes include a number that isn't the registered Upay number, a name mismatch, a reached limit, an unverified wallet, or a compliance review. Check the transfer status in Coinepay first, correct any details, and contact Coinepay support if needed.
