You can buy a one-time Nomad eSIM on Nomad’s website or app, while its auto-renewing Nomad Pass subscription is available in the app. This guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, choose the right product, complete checkout, and work through common payment failures. Check the plan and payment terms shown at checkout before confirming: a virtual card does not by itself ensure that a purchase will be accepted.

What you need before buying

  • A compatible device and a suitable plan. Check that your phone supports eSIM and that the plan covers the places you will visit. Nomad offers Single Destination, Regional eSIM, and Global eSIM categories. Destination pages may show Fixed Data Plans and Unlimited Data Plans; coverage, data allowances, and validity differ.
  • A Coinepay account and card. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Your virtual card’s number, expiry date, and CVV are available after issuance in the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. Check the available balance and any applicable card settings there before checkout.
  • Your real account and billing information. Use your own identity and accurate billing details. Have access to any verification prompt you may receive during payment.

Nomad’s published payment list names Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and UnionPay credit cards, as well as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. It does not establish that every virtual card qualifies for its listed credit-card option. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Nomad’s stated card requirement before you buy. Nomad makes the final decision on each checkout.

Choose a one-time eSIM or Nomad Pass

A standard one-time Nomad eSIM does not auto-renew. For example, you can choose a USA destination plan or compare Europe regional coverage. On Europe plans, check whether the option says 35 Countries Plan or 36 Countries Plan; do not assume both cover the same itinerary. Other named multi-destination options include Global, Global-EX, APAC, CN-JP-KR, and North America. Confirm the exact countries, data allowance, validity, and final price on Nomad’s product page. Prices can vary by region and storefront.

Nomad Pass is different: it is an app-only, auto-renewing subscription. Its options are Single Destination Pass and Regional Pass, with 30-, 90-, 180-, or 365-day periods charged upfront for the selected period. Check the renewal terms before subscribing. The newer Pass requires you to claim and assign its 1GB each cycle; unclaimed data does not roll over. If you enable an eligible automatic add-on, reaching 500MB of remaining data can trigger another payment. Nomad Membership, with tiers from Traveler through Elite, is a free spend-based loyalty programme, not a data subscription.

How to pay for a one-time Nomad eSIM

  1. Prepare your Coinepay card. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, check the card number, expiry date, CVV, and available funds. If you need an app, use the iOS app or Android app.
  2. Choose your destination on Nomad. Open the Nomad website or app, find your destination or regional plan, and read its coverage and validity details. Select the data option you want, then choose Add to Cart or Buy Now.
  3. Sign in, register, or continue as a guest where offered. Nomad’s website registration offers name fields and email/password sign-up, with Google, Facebook, or Apple alternatives. A referral-code field is optional. Guest purchases do not count toward Nomad Membership tier progression, so sign in before buying if that matters to you.
  4. Review the order. Check the destination, plan type, data amount, validity, displayed total, and any billing or tax information. Nomad says applicable tax can depend on the billing ZIP code. Use your genuine billing details and check the final amount shown for your purchase.
  5. Enter your card details and confirm. If Nomad offers a card-entry option that accepts your card, enter the Coinepay card number, expiry date, CVV, and requested billing details. Complete any payment verification prompt rather than closing the checkout early. Wait for an order confirmation before attempting another purchase.

After a successful purchase, Nomad emails a PDF payment receipt. If you need a separately detailed invoice, ask Nomad support. If you already have an eligible eSIM and need more data instead of a new plan, Nomad’s top-up path is Manage → select eSIM → Add more data → checkout.

How to subscribe to Nomad Pass

  1. Open the Nomad app and find Nomad Pass. The newer Pass is app-only; do not rely on a website checkout for this subscription.
  2. Select Single Destination Pass or Regional Pass, then choose an offered 30-, 90-, 180-, or 365-day period. Check the eligible destinations and the upfront charge displayed in the app.
  3. Review the renewal terms and any optional automatic add-on setting. If card payment is available for your card, enter its details and complete any verification requested at checkout.
  4. After confirmation, check the subscription information in the app and follow Nomad’s instructions to claim and assign your data for each cycle.

Because Nomad Pass auto-renews, review its current in-app subscription and cancellation instructions before purchasing, especially if you only need data for one trip. Do not assume that the controls or refund terms for Nomad’s older Europe-only Pass apply to the newer Single Destination Pass or Regional Pass. Ask Nomad support if you cannot find the applicable controls.

What to do if your card is declined

Stop and read the exact message before retrying. Repeated failed attempts can contribute to Nomad’s purchase limits, so several immediate retries may make the problem harder to resolve.

  • Insufficient balance: Compare the card’s available balance in Coinepay with Nomad’s final checkout total. If funds are insufficient, add funds through the options available in your Coinepay account, then retry only after the balance updates. Check the app or ask Coinepay support if you are unsure about a card limit or available funds.
  • Incorrect card or billing details: Re-enter the number, expiry date, and CVV carefully. Make sure your name, billing address, and ZIP or postal code are your real details and are entered consistently. Do not substitute an address in another region to try to pass a payment check.
  • Verification or 3-D Secure prompt: If a security challenge appears, complete it using the instructions shown. A missing or unsuccessful verification can cause a failure. If no prompt appears or it cannot be completed, check your Coinepay account for relevant information and contact support rather than repeatedly submitting the order.
  • Merchant region or international-payment checks: Nomad may reject transactions based on its payment rules or the location from which a purchase is initiated. Nomad says it does not process payments initiated from India or the UAE. A card cannot override a location restriction; check Nomad’s current rules or contact Nomad support if you believe a legitimate purchase was declined in error.
  • “payment is unavailable”: Nomad associates this message with a temporary payment-provider technical issue. Check whether the purchase actually completed, then try again later or ask Nomad support for help.

If you see “Purchase failed. You have reached the purchase limit. Please try again later.” or “Payment failed and purchase limit reached.”, do not keep retrying. Nomad generally limits purchases with the same payment method to six eSIMs per account per day and applies tighter limits to some plans, including APAC. Failed attempts can also contribute to a limit. Ask Nomad support what applies to your order.

If checkout fails but a transaction appears in your card activity, check whether it is a pending authorization rather than a completed charge. Keep the order details and transaction information, and contact the relevant support team if its status remains unclear.

Check the cancellation and refund terms before paying

For an unused paid one-time eSIM, Nomad documents an in-app cancellation route: Profile → Help Center → Other Issues → Cancel Order → select plan. Refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase. An eligible uninstalled or unactivated plan may qualify for a full refund after Nomad’s review; activation changes what may be available. Some products, including Unlimited plans, are listed as non-refundable, so check your chosen plan’s terms rather than assuming a refund is available. Standard one-time plans do not auto-renew, but Nomad Pass does.

FAQ

Can I buy a Nomad eSIM without creating a Nomad account?

Nomad offers guest purchases for one-time eSIMs, but they do not count toward Nomad Membership tier progression. Sign in or register first if you want the purchase to count.

Does a standard Nomad eSIM renew automatically?

No. Standard one-time plans do not auto-renew. Nomad Pass is a separate auto-renewing subscription.

Why does Nomad say “payment is unavailable”?

Nomad associates that message with a temporary payment-provider issue. Check whether your order completed before trying again later or contacting Nomad support.

Will Nomad accept my Coinepay virtual card?

Acceptance is not guaranteed. Nomad lists specific credit-card brands; contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Nomad’s stated requirement before buying, and check the result at checkout.
