You can send money from Japan to Vietnam with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before you start, ask your recipient how they want to receive it: in a bank account, a mobile wallet, or as cash pickup. The details you need depend on that choice. This guide explains what to prepare, how to review and send the transfer, and what to do if it needs attention.
What you need before sending
Set up your Coinepay account and complete the identity verification requested for your transfer. Use your real identity and accurate sender information. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists, and transfers are subject to identity checks and local regulations. You may be asked for documents explaining the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds, so respond through the requested channel if a review is needed.
Ask for your recipient’s full legal name, matching the name on their bank account, wallet, or identity document for cash pickup. Confirm their contact details and the specific payout information for the method they choose. A small difference in a name or account number can prevent the recipient from receiving the money.
Vietnam’s local currency is the Vietnamese đồng (VND). When setting up the transfer, check the destination and the currency shown in Coinepay rather than assuming how the recipient will be paid. The app shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm.
Choose a payout method in Vietnam
Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile wallet, and cash pickup as local payout methods. Check the choices displayed for your Japan-to-Vietnam transfer in the Coinepay app or dashboard before collecting details from your recipient. The receiving bank, wallet, or pickup provider may have its own verification requirements.
Bank account deposit
For a deposit to a Vietnamese bank account, get the recipient’s name exactly as their bank records it, the bank name, and the account number. Confirm whether the transfer form also asks for a bank or branch code, the branch location, the recipient’s address or phone number, or the purpose of the payment. Ask the recipient to check these details with their bank instead of guessing at a code or account format.
Vietnam does not have a registered national IBAN format. If someone refers to an “IBAN” for a Vietnamese account, ask the receiving bank what account number and other details should actually be used. Do not create an IBAN from the account number. If the payment instructions call for an international bank wire, the receiving bank may require its own SWIFT/BIC, name, and address or branch location. A SWIFT/BIC belongs to a particular bank; it is not a general code for Vietnam. Enter these details only where the Coinepay transfer form requests them.
Banks used by recipients in Vietnam include Agribank, BIDV, MB Bank, Sacombank, Techcombank, Vietcombank, and VietinBank. The recipient should confirm their actual bank and account details directly; a bank appearing in a list of Vietnamese banks does not establish that a particular account can receive a specific transfer.
Mobile wallet payout
For a wallet payout, ask the recipient which Vietnamese wallet they use and which mobile number or wallet identifier is registered to it. MoMo is an example of a local wallet used for remittances to Vietnam. Select only a wallet offered in your Coinepay transfer flow, then enter the identifier and recipient name requested there. Do not substitute a bank account number for a wallet identifier.
Before you confirm, have the recipient check that their wallet is active and that the name and number they provided match its records. Wallet providers may require the recipient to complete their own identity checks or take other steps before accessing a payout. If the wallet your recipient uses is not offered for this transfer, choose another available method rather than selecting an unrelated wallet.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup can work when the recipient prefers to collect the funds in person. Select an available pickup option in Coinepay and enter the recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on the identification they will present. Review any pickup location and contact-detail fields shown during setup, and make sure the recipient can visit the selected location.
After you send, give the recipient the collection instructions and any reference details provided for that transfer through a secure channel. They should bring the identification and any other information requested by the pickup provider. Do not assume that a pickup location can release funds to someone whose name differs from the transfer record.
How to send money from Japan to Vietnam
- Sign in. Open the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you are new, register for Coinepay and complete the verification requested before making a transfer.
- Start a Global Remittance transfer. Choose Vietnam as the destination. Check the sending and receiving currencies shown, including whether the recipient will receive VND.
- Select the payout method. Choose an available bank deposit, mobile wallet, or cash pickup option. Gather the details required for that option from the recipient; the fields can differ by method.
- Enter and check recipient details. Compare the legal name and account, wallet, or pickup information against the recipient’s own records. Supply any requested purpose or other transfer information accurately.
- Review before confirming. Read the exchange rate, fees, payout details, and amount shown in Coinepay. If something is wrong, go back and correct it before you authorize the transfer.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer, then use its status tracking in Coinepay to follow its progress. Keep the transfer reference handy if you or the recipient needs help.
You can manage the transfer from the dashboard or the Coinepay app, available for iOS and Android. If the route or payout choice you need does not appear, contact Coinepay support before submitting a different transfer.
What the recipient should expect
For a bank deposit, the recipient should monitor the account identified in the transfer. Their bank may ask for information about an incoming international payment or its purpose. For a wallet payout, they should check the selected wallet and any notifications from its provider. For cash pickup, they should follow the collection instructions and bring the required identification. In each case, the recipient should keep their name and payout details consistent with what you entered.
Receiving institutions may apply their own checks. Incomplete or inaccurate required information can lead a beneficiary institution to suspend or refuse an electronic transfer. If a bank or payout provider asks the recipient for documentation, they should provide truthful information through that provider’s official process. A transfer’s status in Coinepay and a recipient’s ability to access the payout are related, but the receiving provider may still need to finish its own steps.
Troubleshooting a Vietnam transfer
The recipient details are wrong
If you notice an incorrect name, account number, bank code, wallet identifier, or pickup detail, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly. Provide the transfer reference and the correct information. Do not assume that a submitted transfer can be edited or stopped. Ask the recipient to confirm the correction against their bank, wallet, or identification records.
The transfer is under review or delayed
Check the status and any requests for information in Coinepay. Identity or compliance reviews, receiving-provider availability, weekends, and public holidays can affect processing. If documents are requested, provide genuine records explaining the transaction or source of funds. The recipient may also need to respond to a question from their bank or payout provider. If the status is unclear, ask support about that specific transfer rather than sending a duplicate.
The transfer was rejected or returned
A receiving institution may reject details it cannot match, or decline a payment for another reason even when the information appears correct. Check the status, save the transfer reference, and ask Coinepay support what happened and what action is available. Before attempting a new transfer, reconfirm the recipient’s legal name, account or wallet details, and any bank-specific instructions. Do not resend on the assumption that the original transfer has been returned until its status is clear.

FAQ
Does a Vietnamese bank account need an IBAN?
Vietnam has no registered national IBAN format. Ask the recipient for their bank account number and enter any additional bank details requested in the transfer form.
Do I need a SWIFT/BIC to send to Vietnam?
It depends on the bank payout instructions. An international bank wire may require the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC; use the code confirmed by that bank if Coinepay asks for it.
Can the recipient receive money in a mobile wallet?
Coinepay supports mobile wallet payouts. Check which Vietnamese wallets are offered for your transfer in the app, then use the recipient’s registered wallet details.
What should I do if I entered the wrong recipient details?
Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference and correct details. Do not assume a submitted transfer can be changed.
Where can I see the exchange rate and fees?
Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review them alongside the recipient and payout details before submitting.
