Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send money from Canada to Vietnam, with the exchange rate and fees shown clearly before you confirm. Whether you are supporting family, paying a freelancer or settling with a supplier, this guide walks through what you need, how to choose a payout method and how to track the transfer from your Coinepay dashboard or mobile app.
Before you start: what the sender needs
You manage everything from the Coinepay app (iOS and Google Play) or the 24/7 self-service dashboard. To send a cross-border transfer you need:
- A registered Coinepay account with completed identity verification (KYC). If you have not signed up yet, create your account first.
- The recipient's full legal name, spelled exactly as it appears on their bank record or government ID.
- The payout details for your chosen method (see below).
- Information that supports the transfer, such as the purpose of the payment and, if asked, the source of funds. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations, and Coinepay may request documents before releasing funds.
All customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions; Vietnam is not one of them, so transfers to Vietnam from Canada are supported.
The local currency and payout methods
Vietnam's local currency is the Vietnamese đồng (VND). Coinepay supports the common local payout methods: bank account deposit, mobile wallets and cash pickup. The exact options available for your specific Canada-to-Vietnam transfer appear at checkout, so confirm them in the app before you commit.
Bank account deposit
For a deposit into a Vietnamese bank account you generally need the recipient's full name, the bank name and the account number. Vietnam does not use a national IBAN format, so use the account number your recipient's bank provides rather than inventing one. If your transfer routes through the SWIFT network, you may also need the receiving bank's name, address and SWIFT/BIC code — for example, Vietcombank publishes its own BIC, but every bank has a different code, so always get the correct one from the recipient. Account-number lengths and any branch details vary by bank, so ask your recipient for the exact receiving instructions from their bank.
Mobile wallets
Mobile wallet payouts in Vietnam can include local wallets such as MoMo and ZaloPay. For a wallet payout the recipient usually needs an active wallet registered in their name and the phone number linked to it. Because wallet availability can differ from one transfer to the next, check the live checkout to see whether a wallet option is offered for your transfer before you tell your recipient to expect it.
Cash pickup
With cash pickup, the recipient collects the funds at a payout location. They will typically need the transfer reference number you receive after sending, plus a valid government-issued photo ID whose name matches the recipient name you entered exactly.
Step-by-step: sending the transfer
- Open Global Remittance. Log in to the Coinepay app or dashboard and start a new transfer.
- Choose the destination and currency. Select Vietnam as the destination and set the payout currency, usually VND.
- Pick the payout method. Choose bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup from the options shown for Vietnam.
- Enter the recipient details. Type the recipient's full legal name and the payout details for your method. Double-check every digit of the account or phone number.
- Review the rate and fees. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and the fees for your transfer before you confirm. Review the amount your recipient will receive in VND.
- Confirm and pay. Approve the transfer and complete your payment. Provide the purpose or source-of-funds information if prompted.
- Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app. You can follow it from submitted through to paid out, and share the reference number with your recipient for cash pickup.
What the recipient should know
Under Vietnam's foreign-exchange rules, a resident individual who receives a one-way foreign-currency remittance may keep it in a foreign-currency account or savings, withdraw it, or sell it to a licensed institution for VND or another currency. Vietnam also has a large-transaction reporting threshold of VND 400 million, which places reporting duties on banks and other covered institutions rather than preventing a recipient from receiving funds.
How any particular payment is treated for tax can depend on what the money represents, so if your recipient is unsure, they should ask their own bank or a local adviser. On the Canada side, reporting entities generally report qualifying outbound international electronic funds transfers of CAD 10,000 or more to FINTRAC, and such transfers can be aggregated under a 24-hour rule — this is normal regulatory reporting, not a block on sending.
Troubleshooting
Wrong recipient details
An incorrect recipient name or account number can cause the receiving bank to reject and return the payment, and a bank can sometimes reject a payment even when the details look correct. For cash or wallet delivery, wrong information or a temporarily unavailable payout provider can put a transfer on hold. Always re-read the name and numbers against what the recipient gave you before confirming.
Compliance review
Because transfers are screened for sanctions and checked against identity and source-of-funds requirements, Coinepay may pause a transfer to request more information or documents. Respond promptly with accurate details to help the review complete. Never split a transfer, use a third party or take any step to avoid these checks or reporting — doing so can cause the transfer to fail.
Delays
A transfer can take longer while your payment reaches Coinepay, during identity or source-of-funds checks, at the receiving bank, or over weekends and public holidays in either country. Use the status tracker to see where your transfer is.
Returned transfers
If a payment is returned — for example because the account was closed or the details did not match — the funds are sent back through the chain. Check the transfer status for the reason, correct the details and send again.
