If you need to send money from abroad to someone who uses Hubtel in Ghana, start by confirming where they expect to receive it: a mobile money wallet linked to their phone number, or a Hubtel account. These are not necessarily the same payout destination. Coinepay Global Remittance lets you review the available methods for Ghana before you commit to a transfer.

Confirm the recipient’s payout destination

Hubtel operates in Ghana, where the local currency is the Ghanaian cedi (GHS). Its consumer app supports transfers to mobile money networks and banks. Hubtel’s app listing names MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo and Telecel Cash as mobile money options. Ask the recipient which provider holds the wallet that should receive your money; knowing only that they use Hubtel is not enough to identify the payout route.

For a mobile wallet transfer, ask the recipient for their registered phone number, the wallet provider and their full name exactly as registered with that provider. If the payout form offers a Hubtel account option and requests an account ID instead, ask the recipient to copy the ID from their account details. Do not substitute an account ID for a phone number, or assume that a Hubtel login number is the correct mobile money payout number. Follow the fields shown for the method you select.

Have the recipient check that the wallet is active and able to receive money. Ghanaian mobile money wallets are subject to verification levels and transaction and balance limits. The applicable level and remaining capacity depend on the recipient’s account and provider, so the recipient should check with their provider if they are unsure whether the expected amount can be received.

Send the transfer with Coinepay

  1. Open Coinepay Global Remittance. Sign in through the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard. If you are new, register for Coinepay and complete any identity verification requested for the transfer.
  2. Choose Ghana as the destination. Enter the amount you want to send or the amount the recipient should receive, according to the fields available in the app. Check the displayed payout currency; a Ghana mobile wallet payout is typically intended for a recipient using GHS.
  3. Select the available payout method. If the app lists Hubtel as a destination, select it and follow its account-detail prompts. If the recipient wants money in a mobile money wallet, select the available wallet method and provider that match their details. Do not choose Hubtel solely because the recipient uses its app. If the intended Hubtel or wallet option is not displayed, pause and contact Coinepay support rather than selecting a different method.
  4. Enter the recipient’s details. Supply their registered wallet phone number or, where specifically requested, Hubtel account ID. Enter their full name exactly as registered. Check the provider and every digit against details the recipient gave you directly. Use your real identity and accurate transfer information.
  5. Review before confirming. Check the destination, payout method, recipient details and amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. The app also shows an estimated arrival time. If any detail is wrong or the payout is not what the recipient expects, go back and correct it before you send.
  6. Confirm and track. Submit the transfer and use its status tracking in Coinepay. Keep the transaction reference so you can identify the payment if you need help.

Coinepay transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual delivery time depends on the payout method and destination country. Use the estimate and status shown for your particular transfer rather than treating that minimum as a promise.

How the recipient checks for the money

Tell the recipient which payout method you selected. If you sent to their mobile money wallet, they should check that provider’s wallet balance and transaction history for an incoming payment; they may also receive a notification through the provider’s usual channels. A person who uses the Hubtel app should not rely only on a Hubtel screen to verify a payout directed to MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo or Telecel Cash.

If the payout option explicitly identified a Hubtel account, the recipient should check the relevant balance or transaction history in their Hubtel account. Do not tell them the money has arrived merely because your transfer was submitted. Wait for Coinepay’s status to show completion and ask the recipient to verify the receiving account.

Hubtel also has a separate business use for the word payout: a merchant can transfer funds from its Hubtel account to someone else’s mobile money number. A transfer from a merchant’s Hubtel account to the merchant’s own mobile money wallet is called a sweep. Neither term, by itself, confirms where a Coinepay remittance will land. For a merchant expecting to use incoming funds for further payments, a payment appearing on a Hubtel dashboard may not yet be part of the usable balance; Hubtel describes usable funds as becoming available after its settlement run.

Troubleshoot a missing or rejected payout

Wrong phone number or account ID

Before confirmation, return to the recipient fields and correct the number or ID. If you have already confirmed, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference and the correct details. Do not assume you can edit or reverse a completed payout. Avoid sending a replacement until you know what happened to the original transfer.

Name mismatch

Ask the recipient to confirm the full name registered with the receiving wallet or account, including the order and spelling shown in their records. A nickname or a name from a different account may not match. If the transfer is still being reviewed or has failed, follow the instructions shown in Coinepay or ask support what information is needed; do not enter someone else’s identity to force a match.

Wallet limit reached or wallet not verified

The receiving provider may restrict incoming transactions based on the wallet’s verification level, current balance or transaction limits. Have the recipient check their wallet status and permitted capacity with that provider. If more verification is required, the recipient should complete the provider’s normal process. Do not split a transfer to get around limits or checks. Once the issue is resolved, confirm the appropriate next step for any pending or failed Coinepay transfer before trying again.

Transfer under compliance review

Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents showing the transfer’s purpose or source of funds. Provide accurate information through the requested channel and monitor the transfer status. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. If your transfer remains pending or its status is unclear, contact support with its reference; do not ask another person to send it on your behalf to bypass a review.

Before you send again

Save the recipient’s confirmed provider, registered name and correct payout identifier, but recheck them before each transfer. Also verify the current payout choices, exchange rate, fees and estimated arrival time in Coinepay each time you send. If the recipient changes wallet provider or wants funds in a different account, set up the transfer using that destination’s actual details rather than reusing an old payout route.

FAQ

Is Hubtel used in Ghana, and what currency does the recipient use?

Hubtel is used in Ghana, where the local currency is the Ghanaian cedi (GHS). Check the payout currency displayed in Coinepay before confirming.

Do I need a Hubtel account ID or a phone number?

For a mobile wallet payout, get the recipient’s registered phone number, wallet provider and full registered name. Use an account ID only if the selected payout option specifically asks for one.

Can I send to any Hubtel user by selecting a mobile wallet?

Not automatically. Confirm whether the recipient wants funds in an MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo or Telecel Cash wallet, or in an account identified by another available payout option.

What if the recipient says the money has not arrived?

Check the transfer status in Coinepay, then ask the recipient to check the account or wallet provider you selected. If the status is unclear, contact Coinepay support with the transaction reference.
