Xero is cloud accounting software billed as a monthly subscription. If you run a business and want to keep your software spend separate from your main account, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can enter at Xero checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how to buy a Xero plan, and how to resolve the most common card-declined problems.

Before you start, note that Xero's checkout uses Stripe as its payment provider, and the card types shown vary by country. Always use your real business name and billing address, and confirm your plan and price on Xero's official pricing page for your region before you buy.

What you need before you start

  • A verified Coinepay account. Register at Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC) before you try to use a card. You can manage everything from the iOS app, the Android app or the web dashboard.
  • A Coinepay virtual card with its number, expiry date and CVV, which you can view in the app once the card is issued.
  • Enough balance on the card to cover the first charge plus any applicable tax (VAT, GST or sales tax is added on top in several regions).
  • Your real billing address. Xero and Stripe may check this against the card's registered details.
  • A Xero user account with a confirmed email and password.

Xero plans and prices

Xero's plan names and prices differ by country, and they changed in several regions during 2026. At the time of writing (October 2026), the regular monthly prices on Xero's canonical regional pages were:

RegionPlans (monthly, regular price)
United StatesEarly $27; Growing $59; Established $97 (excl. sales tax)
United KingdomSimple £7; Ignite £18; Grow £39; Comprehensive £55; Ultimate £70 (excl. VAT)
AustraliaIgnite A$37; Grow A$78; Comprehensive A$107; Ultimate 10 A$143; Ultimate 20 A$180; Ultimate 50 A$250 (incl. GST)
New ZealandIgnite NZ$37; Grow NZ$89; Comprehensive NZ$117; Ultimate NZ$135 (excl. GST)
CanadaStarter C$25; Standard C$60; Premium C$80 (excl. tax)
SingaporeStarter S$39; Standard S$70; Premium S$95
South AfricaStarter R450; Standard R795; Premium R1,095 (incl. VAT)

Eligible new customers are often shown a limited-time introductory discount (for example a percentage off for the first few months) on these pages. These offers and prices change, so check the pricing page for your country for the current figures before you subscribe. Xero bills in AUD, NZD, GBP, CAD, SGD or ZAR for those listed countries and in USD for subscriptions elsewhere.

Step 1: Create your Xero account

  1. Go to Xero's website and sign up for a user account.
  2. Agree to the terms, then confirm the activation email Xero sends you.
  3. Set a password. You now have a login you can use to buy a subscription or start a trial organisation.

Step 2: Add your Coinepay card details

Open the Coinepay app or dashboard, select your virtual card, and have the card number, expiry date and CVV ready. If you want a dedicated card for your accounting spend, you can create one and set a spending limit that comfortably covers the monthly charge plus tax. Keeping one card per service makes it easier to track renewals.

Step 3: Buy your Xero subscription (web checkout)

  1. Sign in to Xero and start the purchase flow. If you already have a trial organisation, you can purchase that one directly.
  2. Enter your business details, then select Buy now and choose your plan.
  3. Apply a promo code if you have an eligible one.
  4. Choose or create a billing account. Subscriptions in different countries need separate billing accounts.
  5. Enter your billing address and payment details, using your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV and your real billing address.
  6. Review everything, then select Confirm purchase.

Subscriptions renew monthly. For subscriptions started on or after 1 August 2017, Xero invoices and charges at the start of each monthly period. If you pick a one-month-free offer, Xero still requires billing and payment details and charges after the free period unless you cancel first.

Buying through the iOS or Android app routes payment through Apple or Google instead, so the checkout currency and accepted payment methods follow the relevant app store. To use your Coinepay card directly and to subscribe for multiple organisations, use the web checkout.

Which cards Xero accepts

Accepted card types depend on your region. Xero's US billing-account options list Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover debit or credit cards, or direct debit where supported. Australian web purchases list Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, direct debit, and Apple Pay or Google Pay on supported devices. The global purchase article lists Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards and does not establish that every method available in one country works at checkout in another. UK and European card payments may require extra bank authentication.

Xero does not publish an exhaustive list of which card products work in every country, and whether any particular card is accepted depends on Xero's and Stripe's checks. If you are unsure your Coinepay card meets a regional requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.

Troubleshooting a declined or failed card

If your card is rejected when entering details or when the subscription charge runs, Xero surfaces specific messages. Work through the likely causes below.

Insufficient balance

Xero's charge includes any applicable tax, so the amount can be higher than the headline plan price. Check your Coinepay balance and any spending limit on the card, top up if needed, and make sure the limit is above the full charge before retrying.

Billing address mismatch

Stripe may compare the billing address you enter at Xero with the address registered to your card. Enter the exact billing address linked to your Coinepay account. Do not use a made-up or borrowed address to get around a check.

"Transaction not approved" or "Error 500"

When updating card details, Xero documents a "Transaction not approved" message, which can reflect a card-provider security block, and an "Error 500" when selecting Credit card. An expired card, browser autofill, stored browser data, or a connection or device issue can also interfere. Try clearing autofill, disabling extensions, or using a different browser, and double-check the card number, expiry and CVV.

3-D Secure / authentication required

UK and European payments may need additional bank authentication. A UK invoice may show Authentication required if a charge needs this step. Make sure you can approve the authentication prompt for your Coinepay card. Check in the Coinepay app or with support how card authentication is handled for your card.

Declined charge on renewal

If a renewal fails, Xero's unsuccessful-payment email includes the decline reason returned by the bank, and the invoice may show Payment unsuccessful. Read that reason first, since it often points to the exact fix. Xero then retries, and non-payment can lead to a locked billing account, suspension and eventual cancellation. The published retry timetable describes current practice and is not a guaranteed grace period, so resolve the issue promptly.

Managing, renewing and cancelling

To review your subscription, select your organisation name → Subscription and billing. To change payment details, go to organisation name → My Xero → Billing accounts → account menu → Edit payment details. Only the subscriber can update these or cancel. When you issue a new Coinepay card or your current one expires, update the details here so renewals keep working.

To cancel, go to organisation name → Subscription and billing → Cancel subscription, select a reason, then Confirm cancellation. A paid organisation has one month's notice and stays accessible and billable during that month before its data is archived. Xero's terms say no refund is due for cancellation by the subscriber, subject to the terms' stated exception and non-excludable legal rights, so do not treat cancelling as an instant refund. If you bought through Apple or Google, cancel through that store instead. Cancelling Xero does not cancel separately connected app subscriptions.

A note on availability and compliance

Xero's terms let it block access or refuse a payment where it identifies sanctions or other legal or regulatory risk, or where it cannot receive payments from a country. Coinepay likewise screens customers against sanctions lists and does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions; some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Use your own identity and billing details throughout. If you need help with your card before subscribing, reach out via support or the Coinepay Telegram, or explore more at Coinepay.

FAQ

Which Coinepay card details do I enter at Xero checkout?

Use the card number, expiry date and CVV shown for your virtual card in the Coinepay app or dashboard, along with your real billing address. Enter these on Xero's web checkout after choosing your plan and billing account, then select Confirm purchase.

Why was my card declined when paying for Xero?

Common causes are insufficient balance (remember tax is added on top), a billing address that doesn't match your card, a security block shown as "Transaction not approved," an "Error 500" when selecting Credit card, or an authentication step in the UK and Europe. Check the decline reason in Xero's email and fix that specific issue.

Does Xero accept virtual cards?

Xero's accepted card types vary by region (for example Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover in the US; Visa and Mastercard in the global article). Xero doesn't publish which card products work everywhere. If you're unsure your Coinepay card qualifies, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.

Will I get a refund if I cancel my Xero subscription?

Xero's terms say no refund is due for cancellation by the subscriber, subject to a stated exception and non-excludable legal rights. A paid organisation has one month's notice and stays billable during that month, so cancelling is not an instant refund.

How do I update my Coinepay card when it changes or expires?

In Xero, go to your organisation name → My Xero → Billing accounts → account menu → Edit payment details. Only the subscriber can change these. Update them before your next renewal so the charge succeeds.
