You can enter a Coinepay virtual card when booking a Hertz rental online, but a successful online payment does not establish that the card will meet the rules at the rental counter. Hertz applies different payment conditions to Pay Now and Pay Later bookings, and pickup requirements vary by location. Check the terms for your specific reservation before paying.
Know what you are paying for
Hertz Gold+, also called Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, is a loyalty program, not a paid rental subscription. At the time of writing (October 2026), joining is free. Its status tiers are Gold, Five Star and President’s Circle. There is no membership-payment step on the U.S. enrollment form; you pay for a rental when you book or collect a car, depending on the rate you choose.
Rental prices vary with the pickup location, dates, rental length and vehicle class. Check Hertz’s official booking page for the price and terms of your itinerary. If you want to join Gold+ first, check Hertz’s country-of-residence eligibility list and minimum-age rule; enrollment is not available everywhere.
What to check before booking
- Your identity: Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before using its card services. Enter your real name and billing details at Hertz. The renter must meet Hertz’s age, identification, driving-document and local rental requirements.
- Your card details: A Coinepay virtual card provides a card number, expiry date and CVV in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. Check the app for your available funds and any applicable card settings.
- Your rate and pickup location: Look at the payment methods permitted for both the selected rate and the branch where you will collect the car. Ask Hertz about the branch’s requirements if the checkout terms are unclear.
- Funds beyond the quoted rate: Allow for taxes, optional extras and any authorization hold. Hertz says insufficient available funds for the estimated charges plus a hold can prevent a rental; under specified U.S. conditions, a hold may reach US$500 plus estimated charges. Check the terms shown for your booking rather than assuming that figure applies to you.
Important U.S. card restriction: Hertz’s published Pay Now terms exclude debit cards and Hertz Credit Cards as prepaid payment methods. Its U.S. debit-card pickup policy also has conditions concerning factors such as location, vehicle class, age, advance booking, identification and return-travel evidence. Do not assume a virtual card qualifies because its details were accepted online or because Hertz lists major charge-card brands. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets the requirements before you buy, and check the applicable rate and pickup rules with Hertz.
Step 1: Set up Coinepay and, optionally, Hertz Gold+
- Register with Coinepay and complete the required identity verification. You can manage your account through its 24/7 self-service dashboard or the iOS app or Android app.
- Find your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV in Coinepay. Check your available funds before starting a reservation.
- If you want Hertz Gold+ benefits, open Hertz’s official enrollment page. The U.S. form asks for your legal name, phone number, email and password, then offers a “Join in seconds” action. Joining does not itself pay for a rental.
You can make a rental reservation without treating Gold+ as a subscription purchase. If you do enroll, use the same real identity throughout your Hertz profile, booking and pickup documents.
Step 2: Choose your Hertz rental and payment option
- On Hertz’s official site, enter your pickup and return locations, dates and times. Review available vehicles and rates for that itinerary.
- Compare Pay Now and Pay Later if both appear. Pay Now is a prepaid rate; its availability and price depend on the itinerary. Pay Later generally does not charge at booking, but you still need to satisfy the payment requirements at pickup.
- Open the rate and rental terms before continuing. Check the permitted card types, renter-name requirements, estimated charges, authorization-hold rules and cancellation conditions for your location.
- Enter the renter’s real details and review any optional extras. At the payment step, enter your Coinepay card details only if the selected rate permits the card and you can meet the pickup rules. Use your genuine billing information and complete any verification requested during checkout.
- Review the final total and reservation terms, then confirm. Save the confirmation so you can refer to its payment and cancellation conditions later.
For an existing U.S. prepaid booking, Hertz says changing the credit card requires cancelling and making a new reservation. Its terms require the original booking card, in the renter’s name, at pickup. This matters especially with a virtual card: confirm with Hertz before paying that you can present everything the pickup location requires. Do not assume that showing a card number on a phone will be sufficient.
How Gold+ points and saved payment methods fit in
If you are using Gold+ points, Hertz instructs members to sign in, start a reservation, choose “Book Now and Pay Later,” and select an available reward at checkout. Taxes, fees and optional extras remain payable. Reward availability and location rules still apply; points redemption is not a substitute for meeting pickup payment requirements.
To update a payment method saved to a Hertz member profile, Hertz directs members to Sign In → the menu beside your name → My Profile. Changing a saved method does not necessarily change the card on an existing prepaid reservation. Review that reservation separately before travelling.
Troubleshoot a declined card or incomplete booking
- Insufficient available funds: Compare your available funds with the rental total, optional extras and potential authorization hold. If the balance is too low, add funds through the available Coinepay options shown in your account before trying again. An online charge or approval does not guarantee pickup approval.
- Billing details do not match: Recheck the name and billing address entered at checkout against your genuine card-account details. Correct a typing error rather than entering a different person’s details or an invented address.
- A verification step fails: If checkout asks for 3-D Secure or another cardholder confirmation, complete the prompt using the available method. If no prompt appears, it expires, or the payment still fails, check the Coinepay app and contact Coinepay support. Do not assume every Hertz checkout uses the same authentication flow.
- Merchant or pickup-region checks: A rate, card type or payment method may be ineligible for the booking region or pickup location. Review the displayed terms and ask Hertz whether your intended card can be used for both booking and collection. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets any card-type or regional requirement before you pay; do not try to bypass the check by changing your address or location.
- “No prepaid available”: Hertz says this message can mean that a prepaid rate is unavailable or incompatible with a discount code. Try reviewing the itinerary and code, or compare an available Pay Later rate. The message does not, by itself, identify a card decline.
If a Pay Now payment appears to have gone through but you did not receive a reservation confirmation, check your Hertz bookings and Coinepay transaction record before submitting another booking. Ask Hertz to verify the reservation status and contact Coinepay support about the card transaction if needed.
Before you change or cancel
Read the cancellation terms attached to your confirmation, particularly before replacing a prepaid booking to use another card. Under Hertz’s cited U.S. terms, a Pay Later booking can be cancelled without a fee before scheduled pickup, while a later no-show fee may apply. Pay Now cancellations and no-shows can carry different charges. Terms also vary outside the U.S., so use the conditions for your own reservation rather than assuming another location’s policy applies.

FAQ
Do I need to pay to join Hertz Gold+?
No. At the time of writing (October 2026), Hertz Gold+ enrollment is free. Rental charges are separate; check Hertz’s official booking page for your itinerary.
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for a Hertz Pay Now booking?
Do not assume it qualifies. Hertz’s U.S. Pay Now terms exclude debit cards, and pickup has separate requirements. Check your rate and branch terms, ask Hertz about pickup, and contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the card requirements before paying.
Why does Hertz say “No prepaid available”?
A Pay Now rate may be unavailable for your itinerary or incompatible with a discount code. The message is not necessarily a card decline.
Can I replace the card on an existing U.S. prepaid Hertz booking?
Hertz says a card change requires cancellation and a new reservation. Check your confirmation’s cancellation terms first, and remember that Hertz requires the original booking card in the renter’s name at pickup.
