If someone asks you to send money to their Payconiq account, check which service they use before starting a transfer. As of October 2026, the Payconiq app in Luxembourg has been discontinued, and Belgium’s former Payconiq by Bancontact app is called Bancontact Pay. Neither is a general-purpose wallet that you should assume can receive a Coinepay mobile-wallet payout. The practical route is to confirm the recipient’s current account details, then choose a payout method actually offered for their destination in the Coinepay app.

What happened to Payconiq in Luxembourg and Belgium?

Payconiq referred to different payment experiences in the two countries. Both use the euro, but their current services work differently:

  • Luxembourg: The Payconiq app stopped being usable after September 30, 2026. A recipient may now use Wero, which connects to an eligible bank account. They must set up Wero with a supported bank and link a mobile number or email address. A phone number alone does not mean the person has activated Wero.
  • Belgium: The consumer app formerly called Payconiq by Bancontact is now Bancontact Pay. Its payments are linked to eligible Bancontact cards and bank accounts, rather than a standalone wallet balance. The separate merchant solution is called Bancontact Pro.

These changes matter when sending from abroad. A phone number used for Wero or Bancontact Pay is not automatically a valid destination for a Coinepay remittance. Likewise, seeing a familiar Payconiq name in an old message does not establish that the recipient can still receive through that service.

Ask the recipient for the right details

First, ask whether the recipient is in Luxembourg or Belgium and how they currently receive money. Get their full name exactly as registered with the account or payout provider. If the Coinepay app offers a relevant mobile-wallet payout, ask for the registered phone number or account ID specified on its recipient form. Include the country code where requested, and have the recipient read the identifier back to you before you confirm.

Do not assume that a Wero-linked phone number, Wero-linked email address or Bancontact Pay contact can be entered as a Coinepay wallet account ID. Wero’s contact details identify an activated Wero user within its own payment service. Bancontact Pay’s Pay a contact feature lets one Bancontact Pay user select another user from phone contacts, choose a linked card, enter an amount and confirm. Those instructions do not establish a Coinepay-to-Wero or Coinepay-to-Bancontact Pay payout route.

If a suitable wallet option is not displayed, ask the recipient whether they can receive a bank account deposit instead. Request the bank details shown by their bank for incoming transfers, along with their registered account name. Copy the details from a trusted message or document supplied by the recipient; do not infer an account number from a phone number. Coinepay also supports cash pickup where offered in the app, but that is a different collection process and should be chosen only if it suits the recipient.

How to send the transfer with Coinepay

  1. Open Coinepay and sign in. Use the self-service dashboard or mobile app. If you are new, register with Coinepay and complete any identity verification requested before sending.
  2. Choose the destination country. Select Luxembourg or Belgium according to where the recipient will receive the money. Do not select a different country merely because an old Payconiq contact number appears to be from elsewhere.
  3. Check the available payout methods. If the app explicitly offers a Payconiq or other relevant mobile-wallet option for that destination, read its recipient-field instructions and confirm with the recipient that they can receive through that exact method. Do not select an unrelated wallet as a substitute. If no suitable wallet option appears, choose bank deposit or another method the recipient can use.
  4. Enter the recipient’s details. For an offered wallet payout, enter the registered phone number or account ID required by the app and the recipient’s full name exactly as registered. For bank deposit, enter the bank-account details requested on the form. Check every digit and spelling with the recipient.
  5. Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Check the destination, payout method, recipient details, amount and estimated arrival time shown in the app. If anything is unclear, stop and confirm it rather than sending a test payment to an uncertain identifier.
  6. Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only when the review is correct. Follow its status in Coinepay and share the appropriate transfer reference with the recipient if they need help locating the payment.

Payout choices depend on the destination and the options presented for your transfer. The steps above do not mean that Coinepay has a direct payout connection to Wero or Bancontact Pay. If the app does not clearly offer the method you need, contact Coinepay support before paying.

How will the recipient see the money?

The answer depends on the payout method you confirmed in Coinepay. With a bank deposit, the recipient should check the receiving bank account and its transaction history, using the transfer details to help identify the credit. For a mobile-wallet payout explicitly offered in the app, they should check that provider’s transaction history or notifications for the account identifier you entered. They should not rely on an old Payconiq screen to verify a new transfer.

Wero itself sends euro payments between linked bank accounts, and a Wero recipient must already have activated the service. Bancontact Pay payments between its users are also linked to banking arrangements; an in-app success confirmation does not necessarily mean the recipient’s bank account is credited at that moment. Neither service’s own payment display is a substitute for checking the payout method and status of a Coinepay transfer.

Coinepay transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Check the estimated arrival time displayed before confirming and the transfer status afterward rather than promising the recipient a particular delivery time.

Eligibility, verification and receiving restrictions

There is no single Payconiq wallet verification level or balance limit that applies across Luxembourg and Belgium today. In Luxembourg, Wero availability depends on an eligible bank and an activated account. Its service restrictions and any additional bank restrictions may affect payments made through Wero. In Belgium, Bancontact Pay requires an eligible Bancontact card issued by a Belgian bank; its person-to-person payment restrictions and the bank’s own restrictions apply to payments within that service. These conditions should not be treated as Coinepay remittance limits or as proof that either service accepts an incoming remittance.

For a Coinepay transfer, rely on the payout options and requirements shown in the app. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents about the payment’s purpose or source of funds. The sender and recipient should provide accurate information and respond to requests through official support channels.

Troubleshooting a transfer

  • Wrong phone number or account ID: If you have not confirmed, correct it on the recipient form. If you have confirmed, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference. Do not assume a completed payment can be reversed. For bank deposit, verify the account details with the recipient before trying again.
  • Name mismatch: Compare the name entered in Coinepay with the name registered on the receiving account. Ask the recipient to provide the correct legal name; do not alter details just to bypass a check. If a transfer is already under review, follow the instructions shown in Coinepay or contact support.
  • Wallet or account restriction: If the app reports that a payout cannot be made, ask the recipient to check their provider’s eligibility and receiving restrictions. Do not assume that limits for a Wero or Bancontact Pay payment between users apply to a Coinepay bank deposit. Select a different payout method only if the recipient can legitimately receive it.
  • Recipient has not activated the service: A Luxembourg recipient cannot receive a Wero payment solely because they have a phone number; they need an activated Wero setup with a supported bank. A Belgian recipient should check their current Bancontact Pay setup. For Coinepay, use only a recipient account that meets the selected payout method’s requirements.
  • Compliance review or delayed status: Check Coinepay’s status tracking and respond to any request for identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents. Avoid sending a duplicate transfer while the original is being reviewed.

If you are unsure which payout method matches the recipient’s current setup, ask them to confirm how they receive incoming money, then check the available options in Coinepay. That is safer than treating “Payconiq” as the name of a current wallet account.

FAQ

Can I send directly to a Payconiq account in Luxembourg?

The Luxembourg Payconiq app stopped being usable after September 30, 2026. Ask the recipient for a current receiving method, such as bank account details, and use a payout option shown in Coinepay.

Is Bancontact Pay the same as a mobile wallet for incoming remittances?

No. Bancontact Pay is the current name of Belgium’s former Payconiq by Bancontact app, and its payments are linked to eligible cards and bank accounts. Do not assume its contact feature accepts Coinepay wallet payouts.

What recipient details do I need?

Get the recipient’s full name exactly as registered. If Coinepay offers a suitable wallet payout, enter the registered phone number or account ID requested in the app. For bank deposit, use the bank details the recipient provides.

What should I do if I entered the wrong number?

Correct it before confirming. If you already confirmed, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference; do not assume the payment can be reversed.

How do I know what the transfer will cost and when it may arrive?

Coinepay shows the exchange rate, fees and estimated arrival time before confirmation. Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but actual delivery depends on the payout method and destination country.
