If you need to send money to family, friends or a supplier in Egypt who uses a digital mobile wallet, Coinepay Global Remittance lets you pay into that wallet from abroad. Egypt's mobile wallets run on the Instant Payment Network (IPN) behind the InstaPay app, and wallet balances are held in Egyptian pounds (EGP). This guide walks through what you need from the recipient, how to send the transfer in the Coinepay app, and what to do if something goes wrong.

What you are sending to

A mobile wallet in Egypt is a digital wallet linked to an Egyptian mobile number. Each Egyptian number can have only one registered wallet, and a person can hold at most three wallets on three different numbers. The money you send arrives in Egyptian pounds, so before you confirm, Coinepay converts the amount you are sending into EGP. You are not opening an InstaPay account yourself: you are sending a cross-border transfer that Coinepay pays out to the recipient's Egyptian wallet using a supported mobile-wallet payout.

You will need to complete identity verification (KYC) in Coinepay before you can send. If you have not registered yet, you can create a Coinepay account and finish verification first, then download the app for iOS or Android.

Details you need from the recipient

Ask the recipient for the following and double-check it before you start:

  • The registered wallet mobile number. This is the Egyptian phone number the wallet is registered on. Confirm the number has an active wallet, not just a phone line or a bank-linked InstaPay profile, because a number used to receive into a bank account is not the same route as a digital wallet.
  • The recipient's full name exactly as registered on the wallet. Coinepay screens the beneficiary, and the name must match the wallet records. Nicknames, missing middle names or a different spelling can cause a name-mismatch rejection.
  • The country and payout type: Egypt, mobile wallet.

Confirm these over a channel you trust. A completed payout to the wrong number cannot simply be pulled back, so accuracy upfront saves time.

Step by step: sending with Coinepay

  1. Open Coinepay and start a transfer. In the mobile app or the 24/7 dashboard, choose to send money and select Egypt as the destination.
  2. Choose the mobile wallet payout method. Pick the mobile-wallet option for Egypt rather than bank deposit or cash pickup, so the funds are credited to the digital wallet.
  3. Enter the recipient's details. Type the registered wallet mobile number and the recipient's full name exactly as registered. Enter the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive.
  4. Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the EGP amount the recipient will get, the exchange rate and the fee clearly before you confirm. Read this screen carefully and check the estimated arrival time, which also appears before you confirm.
  5. Confirm and pay. Authorize the transfer. Coinepay runs identity verification and sanctions screening as part of processing.
  6. Save the reference. Keep the transaction reference or ID. You will need it to track the transfer and to give to the recipient if they need to check with their wallet provider.

How fast it arrives and how to track it

Transfers to mobile wallets can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country, so treat the estimate shown in the app as a guide rather than a promise. Every Coinepay transfer has status tracking: open the transfer in your activity list to follow it from sent to paid out. When the money lands, the recipient sees their wallet balance increase and typically receives a notification or SMS from their wallet provider showing the credit in Egyptian pounds. If they do not see it immediately, ask them to refresh the wallet app or check its transaction history.

Recipient wallet limits and verification

Even when your side goes through, the recipient's wallet has its own capacity rules set by the Central Bank of Egypt and the wallet provider. For individual mobile wallets, caps have generally been set around EGP 60,000 per day and EGP 200,000 per month (per the November 2023 CBE update). Wallet-provider rules and the wallet's own available capacity also apply, and figures can change, so if you are sending a larger amount, ask the recipient to confirm with their provider that the wallet can accept it. A wallet that is not fully verified, or that has already hit its daily or monthly ceiling, may not be able to receive the payout until the recipient resolves it.

Troubleshooting

Wrong number

If you entered the wrong wallet number, check the transfer status straight away. A transfer that has not been paid out may still be stoppable or may be rejected and returned; one that has already credited the wrong wallet cannot be reversed from the app. Contact Coinepay support with your transaction reference as soon as you notice.

Name mismatch

If the payout is rejected because the name does not match the wallet, re-confirm the recipient's full name exactly as it appears on their wallet registration and send again with the corrected spelling. Do not change the beneficiary to a different person.

Wallet limit reached

If the recipient has hit their daily or monthly wallet cap, the payout may fail or hold. Ask them to wait for the limit window to reset or to free up capacity, then retry. Do not break one transfer into several smaller ones to get around limits or checks.

Unverified or inactive wallet

If the number has no active wallet, or the wallet is only partly verified, the funds cannot be credited. The recipient should complete their wallet provider's verification or activate a wallet on that number, then you can resend.

Compliance review

Cross-border transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask you for extra information, such as the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds, before it releases the payout. Provide the requested documents promptly to keep things moving. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, and all parties are screened.

Shows paid but recipient reports nothing received

Give the recipient the transaction reference so they can check with their wallet provider. If it still cannot be traced, contact Coinepay support with the reference and details.

Before you send: a quick checklist

  • Recipient's registered wallet mobile number is correct and the wallet is active.
  • Full name matches the wallet registration exactly.
  • Destination is Egypt and the payout method is mobile wallet.
  • You have reviewed the EGP amount, exchange rate, fee and estimated arrival time on the confirmation screen.
  • You have saved the transaction reference for tracking.

For questions about your transfer, reach the team through the support center or on Telegram. You can manage every transfer from the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, anytime.

FAQ

What information do I need to send money to an Egyptian mobile wallet?

You need the recipient's registered wallet mobile number and their full name exactly as it appears on the wallet registration. Confirm the number has an active digital wallet before you send.

How long does a Coinepay transfer to an Egyptian wallet take?

Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Coinepay shows an estimated arrival time before you confirm, and you can follow progress with status tracking.

What currency will the recipient receive?

The wallet is credited in Egyptian pounds (EGP). Coinepay shows the EGP amount, exchange rate and fee on the confirmation screen before you authorize the transfer.

Why might the payout to the wallet fail?

Common causes include a wrong or unregistered wallet number, a name that does not match the wallet records, an unverified wallet, or the recipient reaching their daily or monthly wallet limit. A compliance review can also hold a transfer until you provide requested details.

Can I send to a wallet if the recipient's limit is reached?

Not until capacity is available. Egyptian mobile wallets have daily and monthly caps set by the Central Bank and the provider. Ask the recipient to wait for the limit to reset or confirm capacity, and never split a transfer to get around limits.
