You can manage a Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) subscription through Square Enix’s Mog Station. This guide explains which accounts can use its card checkout, how to select a plan and enter a Coinepay virtual card, and what to check if payment is declined. Card acceptance depends on Square Enix’s checkout and payment checks; having a virtual card does not guarantee a successful charge.

Check what you need before subscribing

  • The right Square Enix account: Sign in to Mog Station with the account you use for FFXIV. If it has more than one service account, identify the one you intend to renew before paying.
  • Access to the paid game: Starter Edition and Complete Edition include 30 days of play when you first register a platform to a service account. Dawntrail alone does not include that period. Continued paid play after an included period requires a subscription; the separate Free Trial has different rules.
  • A Coinepay account and virtual card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Coinepay provides a virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can view in its 24/7 dashboard or mobile app.
  • Your real billing information: Have the name and billing address associated with your payment details ready. Use accurate information that matches your Square Enix account and the details requested at checkout.
  • Enough available funds: Check the amount displayed at checkout and your available card funds before confirming. Allow for any applicable taxes or other amounts shown in the final total.

Square Enix lists card payment for PlayStation, Windows and Mac subscriptions, alongside Crysta and game-time cards. The methods offered to you can vary by country and checkout flow. Eligible Steam users may have a Steam Wallet option. An Xbox-only account pays its subscription with Xbox FFXIV Coins purchased through Microsoft Store; Nintendo Switch 2 subscriptions use Switch 2 FFXIV Coins purchased through Nintendo eShop. Do not assume that entering a card in Mog Station directly pays either platform’s coin-based subscription.

Choose an FFXIV subscription tier and term

FFXIV’s paid tiers are Entry and Standard. Both permit up to eight characters per World. Entry permits up to eight characters per physical data center, while Standard permits up to 40. Entry has a 30-day term. Standard offers longer terms in some markets; check the options shown for your account.

For a United States account, at the time of writing (October 2026), Square Enix published Entry at $12.99 for 30 days and Standard at $14.99 for 30 days, $41.97 for 90 days or $77.94 for 180 days. These are published prices, not a quote for your checkout. Prices differ by market, and applicable US state or local sales tax may be added based on the account address. Check FFXIV’s official product and pricing page and the final Mog Station total before paying.

A card subscription renews automatically, and Square Enix charges the full selected term in advance. Choose a term based on the amount you are comfortable paying now, not just a displayed monthly equivalent. Game-time cards are a separate option, but they cannot pay for Entry.

Pay with your Coinepay virtual card in Mog Station

  1. Prepare your card. In the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, locate your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV. Check your available funds against the total you expect to pay. If you need help with your card or available payment options, contact Coinepay support before starting checkout.
  2. Open Mog Station and sign in. Use the Square Enix account associated with your FFXIV characters. Review the service account displayed so you do not renew a different account by mistake.
  3. Start renewal. Go to Service Account Dashboard → Subscription Renewal → Credit Card/Crysta Payment. Select your subscription tier and the available billing term you want.
  4. Choose card payment. Follow Mog Station’s on-screen steps to enter the Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date, CVV and the billing details requested. Enter your real details; do not change your address or account region to try to make a payment pass.
  5. Review and confirm. Check the service account, tier, term, billing amount and any taxes before submitting. If checkout asks you to complete an additional card-security step, follow the instructions presented rather than repeatedly restarting payment.
  6. Verify the result. Return to Mog Station and check the subscription status for the intended service account. If you do not see a clear result, check the payment status before attempting another charge.

You can access Coinepay through its iOS app or Android app as well as the dashboard. Square Enix, not Coinepay, controls which payment methods its subscription checkout accepts.

Fix a declined card payment

Square Enix identifies 401, 406, 601 and i2501 as billing errors players may encounter. An error code does not, by itself, establish the cause. Check these possibilities before asking either company to investigate:

  • Insufficient funds: Compare available card funds with the full selected term and final checkout total, including any applicable tax. A 90- or 180-day Standard term is charged for the whole term in advance, not in monthly installments.
  • Incorrect card or billing details: Recheck the number, expiry date and CVV. Make sure the name and real billing address you enter are accurate and consistent with the details requested for your Square Enix account. Square Enix’s payment-processor changes affected address checks.
  • An unfinished security check: If checkout presents a 3-D Secure or other card-authentication prompt, complete it as directed. If the prompt fails or never appears when expected, record what happened and contact support rather than assuming the charge went through.
  • Merchant payment or region checks: Square Enix may decline a transaction because of its payment checks, the method offered in that country or account-related information. It also lists prepaid cards and use of a card across multiple Square Enix accounts among possible billing-error causes. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets the checkout requirements before you buy; Square Enix support can help interpret an account-specific rejection.
  • A protective security trigger: Square Enix says i2501 can reflect a security check, including connection-related activity. Use your normal connection and accurate account details; do not try to bypass the check.

After a 401 or 406 decline, Square Enix advises waiting at least 24 hours before retrying the card. After a 601 decline, wait at least 48 hours. Repeated attempts can temporarily lock billing. If the problem persists, give Square Enix support the error code and describe the checkout step where it appeared; contact Coinepay support if you also need help checking the card transaction.

Change your payment method or cancel renewal

Card details are managed at Mog Station → Square Enix Account Settings → Register/Update Payment Method. Updating details there does not change the payment method of an active recurring subscription. Square Enix instructs users who need to replace that method to cancel the existing subscription, unregister the method and add a new subscription. Check the service account’s status and paid-through date as you make changes.

To stop recurring charges, go to Mog Station → Service Account Status → Cancel Subscription. The option appears for an active recurring subscription. Cancellation stops renewal, but paid access continues through the period already purchased. Subscription charges are generally non-refundable, including unused time after cancellation; contact Square Enix support if you believe a charge falls within an applicable exception.

If you change billing cycles, a shorter or longer term takes effect at the next renewal. An upgrade from Entry to Standard can produce an immediate prorated charge, while a downgrade takes effect at renewal. Review the amount and effective date shown in Mog Station before confirming any change.

FAQ

Can I pay for FFXIV Entry with a game-time card?

No. Square Enix says game-time cards cannot pay for the Entry tier. Use an available payment option shown for your account.

Why was my FFXIV card payment declined with error 401 or 406?

Possible causes include insufficient funds, incorrect billing details or a payment check. Square Enix advises waiting at least 24 hours before retrying after either error.

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card directly for an Xbox-only or Switch 2 FFXIV subscription?

Those subscriptions use platform-specific FFXIV Coins bought through the relevant platform store. Do not assume Mog Station card checkout pays a coin-based subscription directly.

Does updating my card in Mog Station change my current subscription?

No. Square Enix says changing details under Register/Update Payment Method does not change an active recurring subscription’s payment method.

Will cancelling my FFXIV subscription end access immediately?

No. Paid access continues through the period you already purchased. Subscription charges are generally non-refundable, including unused time after cancellation.
