Xbox Game Pass is a recurring subscription billed through your Microsoft account. If you want to pay with a Coinepay virtual card, the process is the same as paying with any other card: you add the card as a payment method and confirm the purchase at Microsoft Store checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how to sign up step by step, and what to try if your card is declined.

Before you start

A few things make checkout go smoothly:

  • A verified Coinepay account and an active virtual card. You must register and complete identity verification (KYC) before your card can be used. After that, your card number, expiry date and CVV appear instantly in the Coinepay app. Create an account at the Coinepay sign-up page and download the app for iOS or Android.
  • Enough balance on the card. Make sure your available funds cover the plan price plus any tax that Microsoft adds at checkout.
  • Your real billing details. Use the name and billing address that match your Coinepay account. Microsoft checks the postal code against the card.
  • A Microsoft account set to the country where you intend to subscribe. Game Pass availability and pricing are tied to that country.

Microsoft does not publish a confirmed list of card networks or a policy on whether virtual or prepaid cards are accepted for Game Pass. Because acceptance isn't guaranteed, it's worth confirming your card is suitable before you buy. Contact Coinepay support if you want to check your card details before checkout.

Choose your Game Pass plan

At the time of writing (October 2026), the four current tiers are Xbox Game Pass Essential, Xbox Game Pass Premium, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Older "Core" and "Standard" listings may still appear in search results but are not the current tier names.

Regular monthly prices checked on October 22, 2026 in a few markets:

RegionEssentialPremiumUltimatePC Game Pass
United States$9.99$14.99$22.99$13.99
United Kingdom£6.99£10.99£16.99£10.99
CanadaCAD $13.99CAD $17.99CAD $25.99CAD $16.99
AustraliaAU$12.95AU$17.95AU$25.95AU$16.95

Prices vary by region and change over time, so always confirm the current amount for your country on the official Xbox Game Pass page before you commit. Some promotional sign-up prices are limited to new subscribers or specific regions, may require a credit card under the offer's own terms, and roll into the then-current regular price unless you cancel.

Note that from November 2026, Xbox has announced monthly cloud-hour caps (15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, 5 for Essential); these had not yet taken effect as of October 22, 2026. Check the current Xbox pricing page for what each tier includes where you live.

Step-by-step: sign up and pay

  1. Add your Coinepay card to your Microsoft account first (optional but easier). Go to account.microsoft.com, open Payment options, choose to add a credit or debit card, and enter your Coinepay card number, expiry, CVV and billing address exactly as they appear in the app.
  2. Open the Xbox Game Pass page on xbox.com and select the plan you want.
  3. Select Join now. A redeem-code route is also offered if you bought a code elsewhere.
  4. Sign in to the Microsoft account that will hold the subscription.
  5. At Microsoft Store checkout, pick your payment option. Select your Coinepay card, or choose to add a new card and enter its details now.
  6. Review the order. Applicable taxes may be added at this stage, so the final total can be a little higher than the sticker price.
  7. Confirm the purchase. If your bank or card issuer prompts a 3-D Secure confirmation, approve it to complete payment.

Microsoft accounts can store credit cards, debit cards, bank accounts, PayPal and mobile-phone billing, but not every method is supported in every region or for every Game Pass checkout. If your card type isn't offered, that's a Microsoft/region limitation rather than a problem with your account.

Troubleshooting a declined card

If payment fails, work through these common causes. Microsoft lists these as checks, not as a diagnosis of any single decline, so try them in order.

Insufficient balance

Confirm your Coinepay card has enough to cover the plan price plus tax. Top up in the app and try again. Remember that a redeemed Microsoft or Xbox gift-card balance can pay for the subscription, but gift cards and account balance cannot clear a past-due charge.

Billing address or postal code mismatch

Microsoft advises re-checking the card details and postal code you entered. They must match the billing information tied to your Coinepay card. A mismatched ZIP or postcode is one of the most common reasons a card is rejected.

3-D Secure / confirmation window blocked

If a payment-confirmation pop-up is blocked or you dismiss it, the charge can fail. Allow pop-ups, complete any verification step, and don't close the window until checkout finishes.

Expired or incorrect card details

Expired card details are a documented check. Open the Coinepay app, confirm the number, expiry and CVV, and re-enter them carefully.

Region checks

Adding a payment method for another country requires changing your Microsoft account country first. Availability has to be confirmed by country and by individual plan or cloud service, not just by whether your country appears on Xbox's list. Some users have reported errors such as "Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help." and "Try that again. Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help." after changing region; the causes were not confirmed, but waiting a short while and retrying is Microsoft's own suggestion. Use your real country and real identity, never a workaround.

Account status

Overdue subscription payments, or an account or Xbox suspension, can block a purchase. Resolve any account issues with Microsoft before retrying.

If the card still won't go through after these steps, confirm your card's details with Coinepay support and, if needed, contact Microsoft Store support for the purchase itself.

Managing, cancelling and refunds

Recurring billing is on by default. To change the card on file, sign in at account.microsoft.com/services and use Manage → Change how you pay. To cancel, go to Manage → Cancel and follow the prompts, or turn recurring billing off before the next charge.

Xbox states that a subscriber who missed turning off recurring billing can request a refund of the most recent recurring charge by cancelling within 30 days after payment, limited to once per Microsoft account per subscription product. Automatic or prorated refunds are not guaranteed for every purchase; eligibility depends on the purchase and your country. Check Microsoft's current cancellation and refund guidance for your region.

A quick note on your Coinepay card

Your Coinepay virtual card is managed entirely from the 24/7 self-service dashboard and the mobile app, where you can view the card details and balance whenever you need them at checkout. Keep enough balance for each renewal so your subscription doesn't lapse. For anything about card limits, supported currencies or whether your card meets a merchant requirement, check the app or reach out through Coinepay support. FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to pay for Xbox Game Pass?

You can add your Coinepay card as a payment method in your Microsoft account and select it at checkout. Microsoft does not publish a confirmed policy on virtual or prepaid card acceptance for Game Pass, so acceptance isn't guaranteed. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card details before you buy.

Which Xbox Game Pass plan should I choose?

The current tiers are Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Each differs in price and what it includes, and availability varies by country and plan. Compare them on the official Xbox Game Pass page for your region before subscribing.

Why was my card declined at Microsoft Store checkout?

Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address or postal code that doesn't match the card, expired card details, a blocked 3-D Secure confirmation, region mismatches, or an overdue or suspended account. Re-check your details in the Coinepay app and retry; some users see a temporary "Something happened on our end" message that may clear after waiting.

How do I change the card used for my Game Pass subscription?

Sign in at account.microsoft.com/services, open Manage on your Game Pass subscription and choose Change how you pay. You can add or update a card under Payment options in your Microsoft account.

Can I get a refund if Game Pass renews automatically?

Xbox lets a subscriber who missed turning off recurring billing request a refund of the most recent recurring charge by cancelling within 30 days of payment, once per account per subscription product. Other refunds depend on your purchase and country, so check Microsoft's current refund guidance.
