Trello is a visual project-management tool built around boards, lists and cards. If you want to move beyond the Free tier, you can pay for a paid Workspace with a Coinepay virtual card, which gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can use at online checkouts. This guide walks through what you need, how Trello's upgrade and checkout flow works, and how to troubleshoot a declined payment.
Coinepay is not affiliated with Trello or Atlassian. Always confirm current prices and plan details on Trello's official pricing page before you buy.
What you need before you start
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity verification (KYC) before you can use card services. You can manage everything from the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app (iOS / Google Play).
- A Coinepay virtual card with its number, expiry date and CVV, which you will find in the app once the card is issued.
- Enough balance on the card to cover the subscription total plus any applicable sales tax, VAT or GST. Trello uses your billing country, and in the US your ZIP code, to calculate tax, so the final amount can be higher than the list price.
- Your real billing details, including the billing address and postcode that match what you hold on file with Coinepay.
- An Atlassian account. Trello sign-up redirects to Atlassian account creation, and you'll need to verify your email address.
Trello restricts access in some regions. According to Atlassian, access is restricted in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Sudan and Venezuela, and new account creation is blocked from Russia and Belarus. Use your real location and identity; do not try to work around regional checks.
Trello plans and prices
Trello offers four tiers: Free, Standard, Premium and Enterprise. At the time of writing (October 2026), the public pricing page displayed these figures in USD:
| Plan | Price (seen Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Free | $0 USD, up to 10 collaborators per Workspace |
| Standard | $5 USD per user/month billed annually, or $6 USD billed monthly |
| Premium | $10 USD per user/month billed annually, or $12.50 USD billed monthly |
| Enterprise | $17.50 USD per user/month billed annually ($210 USD per user/year, an estimate) |
Prices and plan names can change, so check trello.com/pricing for the current figures. The pricing page displays USD even for markets like the UK, EU, Canada, Australia and Japan; Atlassian states that quotes or invoices including Trello cannot be issued in currencies other than USD. Because your Coinepay card may be denominated differently, review the exact charge in the Coinepay app or on the product's checkout before you confirm.
Step-by-step: paying for Trello Standard or Premium
Standard and Premium are purchased by upgrading a Workspace rather than buying a tier for an individual account. A one-person Workspace can be upgraded too.
- Create and verify your account. Go to Trello's sign-up page, which redirects to Atlassian account creation, and verify your email address.
- Open the upgrade screen. Select the Trello logo → Workspace → Settings → Upgrade Workspace, or choose Upgrade on the pricing page and pick a Workspace.
- Choose your plan and billing cycle. Select Standard or Premium and pick monthly or annual billing. Paid plans are billed in advance. Remember that paid Workspace members, and guests who appear on two or more boards, count toward billing; single-board guests do not.
- Preview the total. The upgrade screen shows the number of billable users and the total, including any tax. Confirm the amount is what you expect.
- Open your Coinepay card details. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, view the virtual card to get its number, expiry date and CVV.
- Enter the card and billing details. At Trello's checkout, type the card number, expiry, CVV and the billing address that matches your Coinepay records.
- Complete any verification and confirm. If prompted for 3-D Secure, approve the payment using the method set up in Coinepay. Then submit the order.
Trello's pricing FAQ states Standard and Premium can be bought with a major credit card. Atlassian lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit or debit cards and PayPal for eligible immediate-payment subscriptions, and notes that Discover is not accepted. If you are unsure whether your Coinepay card meets a given requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.
Where to manage or change your card later
Atlassian is rolling out centralized billing alongside legacy billing, so the exact labels differ by Workspace:
- Legacy billing: open Trello logo → Workspace → Billing. A Workspace admin can select Change under Payment Method to replace the card.
- Centralized billing: billing is also available at admin.atlassian.com/billing. Changing the saved card there requires a billing admin, which is a separate role from Workspace admin.
Troubleshooting a declined card
One reported Trello checkout error is "The Card was declined. Please use a different card or contact your bank." In another case, an Atlassian reply cited a decline reason of "making repeated attempts too frequently or exceeding its amount limit" and advised asking the card issuer for the exact reason. Decline reasons are case-specific, but these common causes are worth checking:
Insufficient balance
Make sure your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the subscription plus tax. Top up in the app if needed, then retry. Submitting the same payment repeatedly in a short span can itself trigger a decline, so wait before trying again.
Billing address or ZIP mismatch
The billing address and postcode you enter must match the details on file with Coinepay. Trello also uses your billing country and US ZIP code to calculate tax, so an inaccurate entry can cause a mismatch or an unexpected total.
3-D Secure not completed
If an additional authentication step appears, complete it using the verification method configured in Coinepay. An unconfirmed 3-D Secure challenge will stop the payment.
Card details or expiry
Double-check the card number, expiry and CVV. Atlassian notes an expired underlying card as a possible payment-failure cause. Issue or use a current Coinepay card if yours has expired.
Currency and merchant checks
Because Trello bills in USD, an account setting that blocks foreign-currency payments can cause a failure. Review your Coinepay card settings and transaction limits in the app. If the charge still won't go through, confirm in the Coinepay app that the transaction wasn't blocked, and contact Coinepay support or reach the team on Telegram. For merchant-side issues, Atlassian suggests asking your card issuer for the exact decline reason.
Cancellations and refunds
In legacy billing, a Workspace admin cancels at Workspace → Billing → Cancel. In centralized billing, the admin selects Billing → Change plan → Free. In both cases the paid plan runs until the end of the current billing period. Enterprise changes or cancellation go through your assigned advocate or Trello Support.
Trello says refunds are available within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace, while Atlassian's detailed policy limits subscription refunds to an initial purchase requested within 30 days and excludes renewals and upgrades; it also states the policy does not apply to Enterprise. Because those descriptions differ, confirm eligibility for your specific case with Trello billing support.
Tip for businesses running ads or multiple subscriptions
If your team pays for several SaaS tools, Coinepay lets businesses issue a dedicated virtual card per purpose or ad account (for example Facebook, Google or TikTok) and set custom spending limits on each card. You could keep a card just for your Trello subscription to make reconciliation and budgeting simpler. Manage all of this from the Coinepay dashboard or app.

Why was my card declined when paying for Trello?
Common causes include insufficient balance, a billing address or ZIP mismatch, an incomplete 3-D Secure step, an expired card, or a setting that blocks foreign-currency payments. Reported Trello errors include "The Card was declined. Please use a different card or contact your bank." Check your card in the Coinepay app and ask your issuer for the exact reason.
What currency does Trello charge in?
Trello's public pricing page displays USD, and Atlassian says orders including Trello cannot be invoiced in other currencies. Review the exact charge in the Coinepay app before confirming, as your card may convert from USD.
Do I buy a paid plan for my account or for a Workspace?
Standard and Premium are purchased by upgrading a Workspace, including a one-person Workspace. Open the Trello logo, then Workspace, Settings, and Upgrade Workspace to start.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Trello says refunds are available within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace, but Atlassian's broader policy excludes renewals and upgrades and does not apply to Enterprise. Confirm your specific eligibility with Trello billing support.
