Gandi sells domain names, Simple Hosting, mailboxes and GandiCloud VPS as separate products rather than one company-wide subscription, so "paying for Gandi" usually means completing a single order at checkout. This guide explains what you need, how the Gandi order flow works, and how to pay with a Coinepay virtual card. It also covers the most common reasons a card is declined so you can fix them quickly.

Before you start

You will need two things ready: an active Gandi account and a funded Coinepay virtual card.

  • A Coinepay account. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC) before you try to use card services. You can manage everything from the iOS app, the Android app or the 24/7 dashboard. Virtual assets services are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction.
  • Your card details. Coinepay issues a virtual card with an instant card number, expiry date and CVV. Keep them handy for checkout, and make sure the card holds enough balance for the item plus any taxes.
  • Your real billing details. Use your genuine name and billing address. Gandi's checkout asks for ownership and billing information, and mismatched details are a frequent cause of declines.

Pick the Gandi product and plan first

Decide what you are buying before checkout, because pricing differs by product and region:

  • Domains are priced per extension and operation. For example, the US .com listing observed at the time of writing (October 2026) showed registration and a separate one-year renewal rate; multi-year renewal promotions require their stated term to qualify.
  • Simple Hosting plans are named Essential, Starter, Advanced, Pro and Business.
  • Mailbox tiers are Standard, Premium and Business.
  • GandiCloud VPS configurations are V-R1, V-R2, V-R4, V-R8, V-R12 and V-R16.

Prices vary by region and currency and change over time, so confirm the current figure on Gandi's own pricing page before you buy. Note too that some domain extensions carry registry rules such as local-presence requirements, which are separate from payment availability.

Step 1: Create and activate your Gandi account

Sign up on gandi.net with a unique username, an email address and a password. Gandi emails you a confirmation link that you must click to fully activate the account; until you do, the account is not active. A personal "[ME]" organization is created automatically, and you can add a business organization later if you are billing through a company.

Step 2: Add the product to your basket

Search for your domain, or open the Simple Hosting, email or VPS page, choose the plan or configuration you selected above, and add it to your basket. For domains you will also set the registration term here.

Step 3: Work through the order flow

Gandi's checkout runs in a fixed order:

  1. Basket → review the items.
  2. Ownership and billing → choose the organization (personal or business) and confirm the billing address.
  3. Duration and contract acceptance → set the term and accept the contract.
  4. Payment method → choose how to pay.
  5. Confirmation.

The payment methods shown depend on the billed organization and currency. Listed options include a funded prepaid account, card, PayPal, cryptocurrency via BitPay, bank transfer and eligible cheques. If a method you expect is missing, it is usually not authorized for that currency. Avoid bank transfer for anything urgent: international transfers can take up to a week, and Gandi only processes the order after the payment is received and validated.

Step 4: Pay with your Coinepay virtual card

Choose card at the payment step. Gandi may open an external card or payment page to take the transaction. Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, along with the billing name and address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account. If a 3-D Secure (SCA) check appears, complete the verification prompt from your Coinepay app.

An order is not processed until payment is received and validated. Once it is, you will see a confirmation and the item appears in your account. If you added a funded prepaid balance, Gandi can combine it with a card payment at checkout.

Important: Gandi's note on virtual cards

Gandi's own documentation on saving a card states that virtual and immediate-debit cards are "not usually accepted" when you try to store a card for automatic payments. This restriction is set by Gandi and its payment provider, not by Coinepay. Do not assume any particular card will be accepted. Before you buy, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement, and if saving the card fails, consider paying as a one-off at checkout or using another listed Gandi method such as a funded prepaid account.

Step 5: Keep your invoice and manage billing

After login, go to Billing and select the relevant organization to find your orders, invoices and payment settings. The Automatic payments area is where a card can be added or set as default. Following a payment-provider change documented in September 2024, if a saved card does not appear at checkout, Gandi advises deleting it, saving it again and setting it as default. French customers affected by the September 1, 2026 electronic-invoicing transition should check their billed organization's legal and invoice-routing details.

Troubleshooting a declined card

If your payment does not go through, Gandi's rejected-payment email reads "Our payment system has rejected your payment" and notes that the order was canceled without any debit. A saved-card request stuck at "pending" is also treated as a rejection. Work through these causes:

  • Insufficient balance. Make sure your Coinepay card holds enough for the item plus taxes, then retry. Check your balance in the Coinepay app or dashboard.
  • Billing address mismatch. The name and address at Gandi checkout must match your Coinepay billing details exactly. Correct any typo in the postcode, street or country.
  • 3-D Secure / SCA. Complete the authentication prompt. If no prompt arrives, open the Coinepay app so you can approve it, then try again.
  • Foreign-transaction or spending controls. Gandi advises checking that the card is authorized for foreign transactions and that spending limits allow the charge. Review any per-card limits you set in Coinepay.
  • Card-type restriction. If Gandi's "not usually accepted" rule for virtual cards blocks the payment, pay as a one-off or use a funded prepaid account, and ask Coinepay support to confirm your card's eligibility.
  • Method not shown. If the card option is missing, it may not be authorized for your billing currency and organization.

An unpaid order is not lost: revisit it under Billing → organization → Orders to retry payment, or cancel a stalled unpaid order via Orders → order → Cancel order and start again. Gandi says support must examine an individual order to establish exactly why a payment was rejected.

Renewals and refunds to know about

Domain auto-renewal is opt-in. A completed domain renewal cannot be canceled or refunded, and Gandi advises disabling auto-renewal at least 32 days before the relevant deadline (earlier for some extensions). A newly bought mailbox loses refund eligibility once activated within 14 days. Where Gandi does issue a refund, the amount first goes to the prepaid account, whose balance can then be refunded on request. Keep your Coinepay card funded and active ahead of any renewal date so an opted-in renewal does not fail.

For questions about your card, balance or verification, reach the Coinepay team through support or Telegram. For product, pricing or order-specific questions, use Gandi's own help resources.

FAQ

Does Gandi accept virtual cards?

Gandi's documentation states that virtual and immediate-debit cards are "not usually accepted" when saving a card for automatic payments. This is Gandi's policy, not Coinepay's. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy, and consider paying as a one-off at checkout or using a funded prepaid account if saving the card fails.

What are the Gandi plan names I might be paying for?

Simple Hosting plans are Essential, Starter, Advanced, Pro and Business. Mailbox tiers are Standard, Premium and Business. GandiCloud VPS configurations are V-R1 through V-R16. Domains are priced per extension and operation. Prices vary by region and change over time, so check Gandi's official pricing page.

My Gandi payment was rejected. What should I check?

Gandi's email reads "Our payment system has rejected your payment" and says the order was canceled without a debit. Check your Coinepay balance, confirm your billing address matches exactly, complete any 3-D Secure prompt, and make sure the card allows foreign transactions and the amount is within your spending limits. You can retry an unpaid order under Billing → organization → Orders.

Where do I find my Gandi invoices and payment settings?

After logging in, open Billing and select the relevant personal or business organization. There you will find orders, invoices and payment settings, with Automatic payments being where you add a card or set it as default.

Can I get a refund after paying Gandi with my card?

Refund rights are limited. A completed domain renewal cannot be canceled or refunded, and a mailbox activated within 14 days loses refund eligibility. Where Gandi does refund an order, the amount first goes to your prepaid account, whose balance can then be refunded on request.
