Fastmail is a paid email and calendar service with no permanent free tier, so once your trial ends you need a working payment method to keep your inbox. This guide walks through subscribing to Fastmail and paying with a Coinepay virtual card, which gives you a card number, expiry date and CVV you can use for online checkouts. It also covers the most common reasons a card is declined and what to do about each one.
Before you start
Get these ready so checkout goes smoothly:
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity (KYC) verification before you can create and use a card. If you have not yet, create your Coinepay account and finish verification first.
- A Coinepay virtual card with funds on it. Create the card in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app (iOS or Google Play). You will see the card number, expiry and CVV instantly.
- Your real billing details. Use the name and billing address that match your Coinepay profile. Accurate details reduce the chance of a mismatch decline.
- A Fastmail account. Fastmail starts you with a free trial of up to 30 days without a card; you add payment when you choose a paid plan.
Know the Fastmail plans
Fastmail splits its plans into personal and business tiers. Personal plans are Individual (1 user), Duo (2 users) and Family (up to 6 users). Business tiers are Basic, Standard and Professional, priced per user. You can choose monthly or multi-month terms (12, 24 and 36 months appear at checkout).
Pricing depends on your billing country. For example, at the time of writing (October 2026), Individual, Duo and Family in the United States are listed at US$6, US$10 and US$14 per month, or US$60, US$96 and US$132 for 12 months, with tax added on top. In the United Kingdom the same plans are listed at £5.40, £9 and £12.60 per month (tax included), and in Germany at €6, €10 and €14 per month (tax included). Because prices and tax treatment vary by region and can change, always confirm the current amount on Fastmail's official pricing page for your country before you pay. The billing-address-based total, including any applicable tax, is shown before you submit payment and later under Settings → Billing & Plan.
A note on accepted cards
Fastmail now bills most newer plans through Paddle as merchant of record (Paddle took that role in April 2024, and migration of older accounts is ongoing). On Paddle-billed plans the accepted options are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, UnionPay, Maestro, Mada, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Accounts still billed directly by Fastmail accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and PayPal. Fastmail does not accept cash, checks, bank transfers, money orders or cryptocurrency.
Important restriction: Fastmail states that prepaid-only cards usually do not work, and that some prepaid or debit cards fail because they do not support delayed capture. Because of this, confirm your card is suitable before you rely on it. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Fastmail's requirement before you buy, and keep PayPal or another listed method available as a backup.
Step-by-step: subscribe and pay
- Create or open your Fastmail account. If you are new, sign up and use the trial to test the service. Fastmail says it cannot accept new sign-ups from people based in Russia, and SMS-verification delivery may be limited in some countries.
- Go to billing. In the Fastmail web interface, open Settings → Billing & Plan.
- Choose a plan. Select Choose a new plan, then pick Individual, Duo, Family, Basic, Standard or Professional, the number of users (for business tiers) and a billing term. Review the total and any tax shown for your billing address.
- Enter your Coinepay card. At the payment step, enter the card number, expiry date and CVV from your Coinepay virtual card. Enter the cardholder name and billing address exactly as they appear in Coinepay.
- Complete any verification. If your bank prompts a 3-D Secure confirmation, approve it in the Coinepay app or follow the on-screen instructions.
- Submit payment. Submitting payment ends your trial and starts the subscription term. Your saved payment details are then used for automatic renewal, so keep enough balance on the card before each renewal date.
- Save your receipt. On newer Paddle plans, invoices now go to your Fastmail username address rather than an auto-created Masked Email address.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Fastmail's own guidance lists several causes for a failed card payment: insufficient funds, too many attempts in a short period, unsupported delayed capture on some prepaid or debit cards, or a bank blocking an international charge. It advises contacting your bank, and after excessive attempts, waiting 24 hours before retrying. One user reported seeing an issuer alert reading "Purchase Declined" and a follow-up email saying "Your payment for Fastmail failed" — those are one person's reported messages, not guaranteed universal wording.
Insufficient balance
Make sure your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the full total including tax. Remember multi-month terms charge the whole term up front. Top up the card in the Coinepay app, then retry.
Billing address mismatch
If the name or address you typed does not match your card profile, the charge can be refused. Re-enter your billing details so they match your Coinepay profile exactly, including country and postal code.
3-D Secure / verification failed
If an authentication prompt times out or is missed, the payment fails. Start again and complete the confirmation promptly in the Coinepay app. Check your app for any pending approval.
Merchant region or currency checks
Paddle bills in a list of supported currencies; if your local currency is not supported, the charge is made in USD. A cross-border charge can also be flagged as international. If this happens, contact Coinepay support to confirm the card can be used for this merchant.
Too many attempts
Repeated tries can trigger a temporary block. Stop, wait 24 hours as Fastmail suggests, resolve the underlying cause, then try once.
Prepaid-card limitation
Because Fastmail says prepaid-only cards usually do not work and some cards lack delayed-capture support, a technically valid card can still be refused. If retries keep failing, use PayPal or another accepted method, and contact Coinepay support for help confirming your card's suitability.
Managing, changing or cancelling
All billing changes live under Settings → Billing & Plan: change plan or term, update the payment method, and view renewal information. Changing plans applies any unused time as prorated account credit rather than a cash refund. To cancel, go to Settings → Billing & Plan → Cancel plan → Learn more and cancel this plan → Confirm cancellation; on a multi-user account you must delete the other users first. Access continues until the end of the current term, with no further payments. Note Fastmail's stated policy of no refund for unused subscription time, though its terms allow discretionary refunds and preserve your statutory rights.
Keep your Coinepay card ready for renewal
Since Fastmail auto-renews using your saved card, set a reminder before each renewal date and top up your Coinepay card in advance so the charge is not declined for insufficient balance. You can manage your cards, check balances and review transactions any time from the Coinepay dashboard or app. If anything about a charge looks wrong, reach out through Coinepay support or our Telegram channel.

FAQ
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to pay for Fastmail?
You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Fastmail checkout like any card. However, Fastmail states that prepaid-only cards usually do not work and some cards fail due to unsupported delayed capture. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy, and keep an accepted backup like PayPal available.
How much does Fastmail cost?
Prices vary by country and plan. For example, at the time of writing (October 2026) the US Individual plan is listed at US$6 per month or US$60 for 12 months, with tax added. Duo and Family cost more, and business tiers are priced per user. Always check Fastmail's official pricing page for your region; the full total with tax is shown before you pay.
Why was my card declined at Fastmail checkout?
Fastmail lists common causes: insufficient funds, too many attempts in a short time, unsupported delayed capture on some prepaid or debit cards, or a bank blocking an international charge. Check your balance and billing details, complete any 3-D Secure prompt, and after repeated failures wait 24 hours before retrying.
Do I need a card to start a Fastmail trial?
No. Fastmail offers a free trial of up to 30 days without a card. You add payment when you choose a paid plan under Settings → Billing & Plan → Choose a new plan; submitting payment ends the trial and starts your subscription term.
How do I cancel my Fastmail subscription?
Go to Settings → Billing & Plan → Cancel plan → Learn more and cancel this plan → Confirm cancellation. On a multi-user account, delete the other users first. Access continues until the end of the current term, but Fastmail's stated policy is no refund for unused time.
