CircleCI Cloud has a Free plan that does not require a credit card. If your organization needs Performance, an organization admin can select credits and seats in CircleCI and enter a payment card at checkout. This guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, follow CircleCI’s upgrade flow, and respond if a charge fails.

Check the plan and payment requirements first

CircleCI Cloud offers Free, Performance, and Scale. Server is a separate on-premises plan. At the time of writing (October 2026), CircleCI listed Free at $0 per month with 30,000 credits per month and no credit card required. Performance started at $15 per month, with additional 25,000-credit packages priced at $15 each before applicable taxes. Scale required an annual custom quote, while Server required contacting CircleCI. Check CircleCI’s official pricing page and the amount shown at checkout before committing; prices, taxes, and your organization’s usage can change.

Important card requirement: CircleCI says month-to-month Performance requires a valid credit card. It does not accept bank transfer, purchase order, or ACH debit for that monthly plan. A Coinepay virtual card provides a card number, expiry date, and CVV, but do not assume that it satisfies CircleCI’s credit-card requirement. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy. CircleCI says purchase orders or bank transfers may be available for an annual Custom plan if its eligibility conditions are met; that is a different billing arrangement from the monthly Performance checkout.

Performance’s monthly credit purchase is charged at the start of a billing cycle. If the organization uses up its credits, automatic paid refills can create further charges. Review the selected credits and seats, monitor usage, and make sure the payment method can cover charges you authorize. If you are evaluating CircleCI without paid usage, start on Free instead of entering a card.

What you need before checkout

  • A CircleCI organization and admin access. The documented Performance upgrade is performed by an organization admin. Ask an admin to handle billing if you cannot see the plan controls.
  • A verified Coinepay account. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. You can manage your account through the 24/7 self-service dashboard or the Coinepay mobile app for iOS and Android.
  • Your card details and sufficient available funds. Retrieve the virtual card number, expiry date, and CVV in Coinepay. Check the available amount against the total displayed by CircleCI, including applicable taxes and any usage you intend to authorize. Check the Coinepay app or contact support for any card-specific limits or charges.
  • Accurate billing information. Have the real cardholder or business billing name, address, and postal code ready. Enter details that match the payment information on your account; do not substitute an address from another country to get through checkout.

Sign up for CircleCI and choose Performance

  1. Create your CircleCI account. Start at CircleCI’s official site. For GitHub, GitLab, or Cursor Origin projects, CircleCI documents a browser sign-up flow using an email address and password, followed by email verification and multifactor authentication. Bitbucket Cloud users can sign up through Bitbucket authorization. Follow the prompts that apply to your project and use your real account information.
  2. Open the correct organization. In the CircleCI web app, select the organization whose builds you want to bill. Confirm you have organization admin permissions before changing its plan.
  3. Go to Plan → Plan Overview. Choose the option to upgrade from Free to Performance. Select the credits and seats the organization needs, then review the displayed purchase and billing terms. Each entered 25,000-credit package was listed at $15 at the time of writing (October 2026), but use CircleCI’s current checkout total as your decision point.
  4. Enter the payment and billing details. Copy the card number, expiry date, and CVV from Coinepay into CircleCI’s payment form. Enter the genuine billing address and postal code associated with the payer. Check every digit, especially the expiry date and security code, before submitting.
  5. Complete any requested authentication and confirm. If checkout asks you to authenticate the payment, follow the instructions presented by the payment flow. Do not repeatedly submit the same charge while an authentication step is pending. After checkout, confirm the organization’s plan and review its statements on the Billing tab.

These steps cover CircleCI Cloud’s documented Free-to-Performance upgrade. Scale and Server involve contacting CircleCI rather than following this published monthly Performance checkout. Your organization should use the plan and billing route CircleCI offers it, not assume a card form will appear for every plan.

If CircleCI declines the card or a later charge fails

A failed payment is not, by itself, proof of why the card was declined. Check the CircleCI billing screen and your Coinepay account, then use the relevant fix below. CircleCI notes that issuer restrictions, suspected fraud, transaction limits, expired details, insufficient funds, mismatched payment information, and 3D Secure requirements can all be involved.

  • Insufficient available funds: Compare the available amount in Coinepay with CircleCI’s full displayed charge, including taxes where applicable. Remember that Performance can also generate paid refills after credits are depleted. Add funds through available Coinepay options or reduce the intended purchase in CircleCI before retrying, if the checkout permits it.
  • Billing-address or card-detail mismatch: Check the card number, expiry date, CVV, and postal code. Correct mistakes using your real billing details. An admin can update an existing card and billing address under Billing → Payment Details → Edit → Confirm Changes.
  • 3D Secure authentication: CircleCI identifies required 3D Secure as a possible failure cause, particularly for some India-issued cards. If an authentication prompt appears, complete it through the method provided. If no prompt arrives or it fails, check the Coinepay app and ask Coinepay support whether the attempted transaction can be authenticated.
  • Merchant region or payment-method checks: CircleCI may restrict account access from certain sanctioned regions, and payment checks can differ by transaction. Its published monthly Performance requirement is a valid credit card. Do not assume a decline can be solved by changing the billing country. Contact CircleCI about any account or checkout restriction and Coinepay support to confirm your card meets CircleCI’s stated payment requirement. Use only your actual location and billing information.
  • Other issuer declines: A purchase restriction, transaction limit, or fraud check may require a review of the attempted charge. Check any notice in your Coinepay account and contact support with the transaction time and amount. Avoid sharing your full card number or CVV in a support message.

For a failed recurring charge, a CircleCI admin may see “Overdue Balance” and a “Pay Now” action to update the method or retry payment. Act promptly: CircleCI says it retries failed charges and cancels an unpaid Performance subscription 10 days after the first failed attempt, returning the organization to Free. If payment still fails after you have checked the details, ask CircleCI about the billing status and Coinepay about the card attempt rather than making repeated unchanged submissions.

Manage or cancel the subscription

To change the payment card or billing address later, an organization admin can use Billing → Payment Details → Edit → Confirm Changes. Statements are available on CircleCI’s Billing tab. Keep an eye on credit usage and any automatic refills so that subsequent charges are expected.

If you no longer need Performance, an organization admin can go to Plan → Billing → “Looking to cancel your plan?” → Cancel and complete the prompts. CircleCI says Performance remains available through the current billing cycle and then changes to Free. Unused credits are forfeited at the end of that cycle and are not refundable, so check your remaining credits before cancelling. CircleCI’s terms describe a limited prorated-refund exception for prepaid, undelivered services when termination results from its uncured material breach; do not treat that as a general refund policy.
