Wise is a money-management and cross-border payments app. Unlike many services in the app stores & digital wallets category, Wise does not sell a monthly subscription for its personal product — its personal pricing page says there are no subscription plans. Instead, you may pay a card at two points: when you fund a transfer and, for businesses, when you pay a one-time fee to open receiving account details. This guide shows what you need and how to pay at the Wise checkout with a Coinepay virtual card, then walks through the most common reasons a card is declined.
What you need before you start
- A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you have not registered yet, you can create an account and finish verification first.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV, which are shown in the Coinepay app on iOS or Android.
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the Wise amount plus any Wise fee shown at checkout.
- Your real billing details. Use the name and address that match your Coinepay profile.
Important card-acceptance note: for card-funded transfers, Wise accepts Visa, Mastercard and some Maestro debit or credit cards with the required security details, and it does not accept American Express or Discover. Wise also requires a business card to fund a business transfer, not a personal card. Coinepay does not publish which network every card uses, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Wise's requirement before you pay.
Create and verify your Wise account
At wise.com or in the Wise app, register with your email, a password, a personal-or-business choice, your phone number and your country. Provide your personal identity details (or, for a business, your business registration details) and complete verification when Wise asks for it. Wise excludes specified sanctioned or unsupported locations from registration, transfers and card use, and holding money, getting account details and ordering a card each have separate country-eligibility rules, so check that your country is supported for the action you want.
Paying to fund a transfer with your card
Wise's "from" rates (for example sending and conversion starting at a small percentage) are not a fixed checkout price. Wise shows the available payment methods, the fee and a delivery estimate for your specific transfer before you confirm. To pay:
- From Home, select Send.
- Choose or add a recipient and enter the amount.
- Select an offered funding method. Where card is offered, choose debit or credit card.
- Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry and CVV, and the billing address from your Coinepay profile.
- Review the fee, exchange rate and delivery estimate, then select Continue and Send.
- Complete any security step, then select Pay to finish a card-funded transfer.
Bank transfer, and Apple Pay or Google Pay subject to device, card and regional restrictions, may also appear as funding options alongside card.
Paying a business one-time fee
If you run a Wise Business account and want receiving account details, a one-time fee applies in most markets. At the time of writing (October 2026) Wise listed examples such as a one-time charge for US business receiving details and a UK Wise Business Advanced fee, with Australia naming its tiers Basic (free) and Advanced. Prices and tier names vary by market and change over time, so check the current Wise business pricing page for your country. Where a one-time fee applies, payment and verification come before you get access to your first set of receiving account details, and Wise says it refunds that fee if it cannot verify the business.
Troubleshooting: why a card payment is declined
Wise distinguishes failures when a card funds a transfer from declines on a Wise-issued card. For funding a transfer, Wise reports messages like "Your bank declined the payment," a failed 3D Secure verification, and "Wise declined the payment." Common causes and fixes:
Insufficient balance or limits
Make sure your Coinepay card has enough to cover the amount and the Wise fee. Check your current balance and any per-card spending limit in the Coinepay app before retrying.
Incorrect card details
Re-enter the card number, expiry and CVV exactly as shown in the Coinepay app. A single wrong digit triggers a decline.
Billing address or name mismatch
Wise lists a cardholder-name mismatch among decline reasons. For Wise-issued cards it also uses the address on your profile as the billing address for online purchases; apply the same principle here and enter the name and billing address that match your Coinepay profile.
3-D Secure (3DS) verification failed
Card-funded transfers may require a 3DS confirmation step. Complete the approval prompt from Coinepay when it appears. If you did not receive it, confirm your contact details and notification settings in the Coinepay app, then retry.
Unsupported issuance country or card network
Wise lists an unsupported issuance country as a decline reason, and it does not accept American Express or Discover for funding transfers. Business transfers require a business card. If you are unsure whether your Coinepay card meets these conditions, contact Coinepay support before trying again rather than repeating a failing payment.
Issuer security check
Issuer-side security checks can block an unfamiliar cross-border charge. If a payment is refused despite correct details and a sufficient balance, reach out to Coinepay support to confirm the transaction was not blocked on the card side.
If a specific transaction keeps failing, Wise's activity feed may show the reason for a declined entry. Read it before retrying so you fix the right thing.
Refunds and cancelling a transfer
An unpaid transfer can be cancelled from its activity entry. Once processing starts, cancellation requires contacting Wise and is not guaranteed, and a completed transfer cannot be cancelled. Wise generally charges no cancellation or refund fee and refunds the amount paid in most cases (with a stated exception for Swift transfers), returning money to the original card, bank account or Wise balance. Wise estimates up to 10 working days for refunds to a card, 0–3 working days for bank transfers, and an instant return to a Wise balance if the money has not yet been sent. A card refund therefore returns to the Coinepay card you used.
Managing cards and settings in Coinepay
You can view your card details, balance and transaction history any time from the Coinepay 24/7 dashboard and mobile app. For questions about whether your card suits a particular Wise charge, use Coinepay support or the Coinepay Telegram. A note on Wise prices
Wise's fees and tiers differ by country and change over time — for example, Wise dated a UK business pricing change to late 2025 and reported route and card-funding fee reductions in a 2026 update. Always rely on the live quote Wise shows for your specific transfer, and on the official Wise pricing page for your market, rather than any example figure.

FAQ
Does Wise charge a subscription I pay for with a card?
Wise's personal pricing page says there are no subscription plans. You pay a card when you fund a transfer, and businesses may pay a one-time fee to open receiving account details. Prices vary by market, so check Wise's official pricing page.
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to fund a Wise transfer?
Wise accepts Visa, Mastercard and some Maestro debit or credit cards for funding transfers and does not accept American Express or Discover. Business transfers require a business card. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this before you pay.
Why was my card declined when paying Wise?
Wise reports causes such as insufficient balance, bank or issuer limits, incorrect card details, a name or billing-address mismatch, failed 3D Secure, and an unsupported issuance country. Check the declined entry in your Wise activity feed and fix the specific issue before retrying.
What billing address should I enter at the Wise checkout?
Use the name and billing address that match your Coinepay profile. A cardholder-name or address mismatch is a common decline reason, so keep the details consistent with your verified Coinepay account.
If I cancel a Wise transfer, how do I get my money back?
An unpaid transfer can be cancelled from its activity entry; after processing starts you must contact Wise. Refunds usually return to the original card and, for card payments, Wise estimates up to 10 working days.
