Perplexity AI is an AI answer engine with free and paid tiers. If you want the extras that come with a paid plan, you need to add a payment card at its Stripe checkout. This guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, where to find Perplexity's upgrade flow, and what to do if a payment is declined.
What you need before you start
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity verification (KYC) before you can use card services. If you have not done this yet, create your account and finish verification first.
- A Coinepay virtual card with an available balance to cover the plan you want, plus any amount the merchant may authorise. Your card number, expiry date and CVV appear in the Coinepay app or dashboard as soon as the card is issued.
- The billing details registered to your Coinepay card. Perplexity's payment page asks for a billing address, and it should match what is on file for your card.
- A Perplexity account, created with an email address or a Google account.
Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Always use your own real identity and billing information.
Choose your Perplexity plan
Perplexity's individual plans are Standard (Free), Perplexity Pro, Perplexity Max and Education Pro. For teams there are Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max, and the API Platform is billed separately.
At the time of writing (October 2026), the United States USD prices shown were: Pro $20/month or $200/year; Max $200/month or $2,000/year, with Max annual billing available on the web only; and Education Pro $10/month for eligible students and educators verified through SheerID. Prices and local-currency amounts vary by region, so confirm the current figure on Perplexity's official pricing page before you pay. In some regions the web checkout may display a local currency, and the selected currency carries through to recurring payments; Perplexity notes that its web subscriptions in India must be purchased in USD and cannot recur in INR.
Step-by-step: subscribe and pay
- Sign in to Perplexity on the web with your email or Google account.
- Open Account settings → Subscription and select Upgrade Plan. This opens a Stripe payment page.
- Choose your plan and billing cycle (monthly or annual where offered). For Education Pro, complete the SheerID verification first so the discounted checkout is available.
- Select card as the payment method. Perplexity's current Pro billing FAQ lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit/debit cards, Cash App, Google Pay, Apple Pay and ACH transfer; availability of each option can vary by checkout.
- Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown in the Coinepay app.
- Fill in the billing address to match the details registered to your Coinepay card.
- If your card's bank sends a 3-D Secure prompt, approve it through the method Coinepay uses for confirmations.
- Confirm the purchase. After payment succeeds, you can review your charge under Account → Subscription → Manage Subscription → Invoice History.
Note that any trial or promotional access requires a valid credit or debit card, renews at the plan's standard rate unless you cancel, and an existing user may revert to Free if a requested card is not added within seven days.
Where to manage billing later
For individual web subscriptions, your payment details live under Account → Subscription → Manage Plan / Manage Subscription → Billing and Shipping Information. Enterprise admins manage payment details, seats, cancellations and invoices under Organization settings → Billing → Manage billing. Remember that removing an Enterprise member frees the seat but does not reduce the recurring charge or create a prorated credit; an admin must lower the purchased seat count for the next billing period.
If your card is declined
At least one user reported the checkout message "Error: Your card has been declined." The underlying reason is not shown in the message, so work through the common causes below.
Insufficient balance
Make sure your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the plan amount plus any temporary authorisation the merchant may place. Top up in the Coinepay app and try again. A user report attributed one failed attempt to insufficient funds, so this is worth checking first.
Billing address mismatch
If the address on the Stripe page does not match the details on file for your card, the payment can fail. Re-enter the billing information so it matches your Coinepay card records exactly.
3-D Secure not completed
If a verification prompt appears and is not approved in time, the charge is rejected. Start the payment again and complete the confirmation step promptly.
Merchant or region checks
Perplexity applies regional rules at checkout. For example, it states that promotional-access card entry in India accepts only Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit or debit cards, and web subscriptions there must be paid in USD. If a checkout restricts card types or regions, the Coinepay card may not meet that specific requirement. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you buy, rather than assuming either way.
A past-due earlier subscription
Perplexity notes that a past-due earlier subscription can block Education Pro's discounted checkout. Clear any outstanding balance before retrying. If your bank declines the card, Perplexity advises raising it with the bank; for Coinepay card questions, reach out through the Coinepay support channel or Telegram.
Cancellation and refunds
Cancel on the platform where you bought the plan: web subscriptions in Perplexity's subscription settings, App Store purchases in Apple's subscriptions, and Google Play purchases in Google Play's subscriptions. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. For web purchases, use Manage Subscription → Cancel Plan, which also offers an eligible refund request. Paid access normally lasts through the current billing period, then reverts to Free.
Perplexity's refund policy gives 14 days from purchase for EU, UK and Turkey customers; seven days for South Korea and Brazil; otherwise 24 hours for monthly and 72 hours for annual subscriptions, and it states the same policy applies to Enterprise. A Max-specific article cites 48 hours for annual refunds outside the named regions, so check the current Refunds page for the figure that applies to your purchase.
Keep your Coinepay card ready
Manage your virtual cards, balances and transaction history anytime from the 24/7 Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app for iOS and Android. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions.
