Lufthansa sells flights by route, date and fare rather than as a fixed-price subscription, so what you pay depends on where you fly and when you book. If you want to keep your airfare spending in one place, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV that you can enter directly at Lufthansa checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how to create a Travel ID, how to book and pay, and what to do if a payment is declined.
What you need before you book
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity verification (KYC) before using card services. If you haven't done this yet, create your Coinepay account and finish KYC first.
- A Coinepay virtual card with enough balance to cover the full fare plus any seats, bags or extras you add during booking.
- Your card number, expiry date and CVV, available in the Coinepay dashboard or the iOS or Android app.
- Your real billing details. Use the name and billing address tied to your Coinepay card so the payment passes verification checks.
- A Lufthansa Travel ID (optional but useful for managing bookings afterward).
Coinepay card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China.
Understanding Lufthansa fares and prices
Lufthansa does not charge a single flat price, so there is no subscription tier to pick. On its European routes the Economy fare names are Economy Basic, Economy Light, Economy Comfort, Economy Comfort Green and Economy Flex, and the Business fare names are Business Comfort, Business Comfort Green, Business Flex and Business Flex Green. The Green variants and some other fares have narrower sales-channel availability. These names apply to short- and medium-haul European flights and are not a universal list for long-haul routes.
A few advertised round-trip Economy examples seen at the time of writing (October 2026): New York–Frankfurt from $761, London–Frankfurt from £123, and Frankfurt–Berlin from €141. These are sample route prices, not guaranteed checkout quotes or prices for every fare tier, and they change constantly. Always check the live price for your dates on the official Lufthansa website.
Note: Economy Basic became bookable from October 6, 2026 for travel starting October 27, 2026. It includes one personal item rather than a standard carry-on bag and is normally non-rebookable and non-refundable under its fare rules. Read the fare conditions before you buy.
Step 1: Create a Lufthansa Travel ID (optional)
A Travel ID is the login for Lufthansa's digital services, not a paid ticket plan. To create one, enter your registration details on lufthansa.com and confirm the link sent to your email. You can book without a Travel ID, but having one lets you store payment details in your profile and manage trips later. You can also enter a card during booking without first saving it to a profile.
Step 2: Search and choose your flight
- Go to the official Lufthansa website and enter your origin, destination, dates and passengers.
- Review the available fares for your route and pick the one that matches your baggage and flexibility needs. Remember that the European fare structure does not apply to European connecting legs sold on an intercontinental through fare.
- Add any seats, bags or extras. Confirm the total shown before moving to payment, since that is the amount your Coinepay card must cover.
Step 3: Pay with your Coinepay virtual card
Lufthansa lists several online credit-card types at checkout, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club/Discover, JCB and AirPlus Company Account/UATP, plus international debit cards such as Mastercard Debit, Visa Debit and Visa Electron. Other options it lists include PayPal, Apple Pay, Click to Pay, UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, iDEAL, instant bank transfer, SEPA direct debit, eligible Klarna options and Cash & Miles, with each depending on its stated conditions and the payment page you see.
- On the payment page, select the card option.
- Open your Coinepay app or dashboard and copy your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Enter the card details and the cardholder name and billing address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account.
- Complete any 3D Secure step. Lufthansa notes that the issuing bank may request a password, transaction number or security answer in an authentication window, and advises allowing browser pop-ups so the window can open. Coinepay sends verification prompts through its app, so keep it nearby.
- Confirm the payment and wait for the booking confirmation. Save or screenshot your booking code.
Because Lufthansa does not publicly state which card brands, issuing countries or card types a given fare will accept at every step, and because acceptance can vary by region, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets any requirement before you buy if you are unsure.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Lufthansa does not publish a definitive list mapping checkout messages to specific decline reasons, so treat a generic "payment failed" message as a prompt to check the common causes below rather than a diagnosis.
Insufficient balance
Confirm your Coinepay card balance covers the full fare plus seats, bags and taxes. Top up in the app and try again. Some airline checkouts place a temporary authorization hold; if you see more than one reserved amount, wait for the holds to clear before retrying so you don't double-spend.
Billing address mismatch
The name and billing address you enter must match the details on your Coinepay card exactly. A mismatch is a frequent cause of silent declines. Open your Coinepay profile, copy the billing details and re-enter them carefully.
3D Secure not completed
If the authentication window never appears, your browser may be blocking pop-ups. Allow pop-ups for lufthansa.com, disable aggressive ad blockers, then restart the booking. Complete the Coinepay verification prompt promptly, as it can expire.
Merchant region and payment-method checks
Many Lufthansa payment options are region-locked: iDEAL is for Netherlands residents paying EUR fares; Alipay and WeChat Pay are for China residents in specified currencies; instant bank transfer needs an eligible-country phone number and online banking for EUR/GBP flights; Brazil and Colombia instalments need a qualifying local departure and locally issued card; India UPI needs an Indian phone number and an INR-priced flight; and Kenya M-PESA needs a Kenyan phone number and a Kenya-originating flight. If one method is unavailable to you, choose a standard card option instead. If a card still fails without a clear reason, contact Coinepay support through the app to check your card status, and contact Lufthansa for booking-system issues.
Cancellations and refunds
A booking eligible for online cancellation can be cancelled in My bookings up to two hours before departure: enter the surname and booking code, select Cancel/refund and review the calculated amount. Whether you are reimbursed depends on the fare conditions you purchased and any journey already flown. For qualifying bookings through Lufthansa's online channels covered by its US Customer Service Plan, cancelling all flights for all passengers within 24 hours of booking is penalty-free if departure was at least seven days away when booked; partial cancellations don't qualify.
Refunds go back to the original payment method, so a refund on a Coinepay-paid ticket returns to that same virtual card. Keep the card active until any refund settles. If you bought the ticket through a travel agency or third-party portal rather than Lufthansa, contact that seller for refunds.
Managing it all from Coinepay
You can track card spending, top up and view transactions anytime from the 24/7 Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. Businesses booking travel for staff can issue dedicated virtual cards with custom spending limits per card to keep airfare separate from other expenses. For help, reach Coinepay support or the Telegram channel, and manage your cards from the Coinepay app.

FAQ
Can I pay for a Lufthansa flight with a Coinepay virtual card?
You can enter your Coinepay virtual card's number, expiry and CVV on Lufthansa's card payment page like any card. Acceptance can depend on card brand, issuing region and the specific checkout, and Lufthansa does not publish those rules for every case. If you are unsure, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets any requirement before you buy.
Do I need a Lufthansa Travel ID to book?
No. A Travel ID is the login for Lufthansa's digital services, and you can enter a card during booking without saving it to a profile. A Travel ID is still useful for storing payment details and managing trips afterward in My bookings.
Why was my card declined at Lufthansa checkout?
Common causes are insufficient card balance, a billing address that doesn't match your Coinepay card, an incomplete 3D Secure step (often blocked by browser pop-up settings), or a region-locked payment method. Check each, top up if needed, and contact Coinepay support if a card still fails without a clear reason.
Will a Lufthansa refund go back to my Coinepay card?
Yes. Lufthansa refunds go to the original payment method, so a refund on a Coinepay-paid ticket returns to that virtual card. Keep the card active until it settles. If you booked through a travel agency or third-party portal, request the refund from that seller instead.
How much does a Lufthansa ticket cost?
Prices depend on route, dates and fare and are not fixed. Sample advertised round trips seen in October 2026 included New York–Frankfurt from $761, London–Frankfurt from £123 and Frankfurt–Berlin from €141, but these change constantly. Check the live price for your itinerary on the official Lufthansa website.
