Best Buy sells electronics and also runs paid membership tiers that renew automatically each year. If you want to pay for a Best Buy order or membership with a Coinepay virtual card, this guide walks through what you need, how checkout works, and how to troubleshoot a declined card. Coinepay issues virtual cards with an instant card number, expiry date and CVV that you can use for online shopping and subscriptions, all managed from the Coinepay app and dashboard.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • A Best Buy account (the free My Best Buy account) for your region, created online, in the Best Buy app or in-store.
  • A Coinepay virtual card with enough balance for the purchase plus any applicable tax. Create and fund it in the Coinepay app after you register and complete identity verification (KYC).
  • Your real billing details — the name and billing address linked to your Coinepay card. Best Buy checks these at authorization, so use your genuine information.

You can get the Coinepay app on iOS or Google Play. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction.

Know which Best Buy product you are paying for

Best Buy's offers differ by country, so check what you are actually buying before you reach for a card.

Prices and benefits change and vary by region, so always confirm the current amount on Best Buy's official membership page before you buy. U.S. paid-tier eligibility is stated for adults in the 50 states or Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico residents have an in-store-only paid-tier offer.

A note on accepted cards

For general BestBuy.com orders, Best Buy lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB and its own cards, plus gift cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Zip. One online order cannot use two credit/debit cards or combine PayPal or Apple Pay with a credit/debit card. Importantly, Best Buy's U.S. membership FAQ states that a credit card is required to activate either paid tier, and that card is charged at each yearly renewal plus tax unless you cancel. Because Best Buy specifies a credit card for memberships, confirm your Coinepay card meets this requirement before you buy — contact Coinepay support if you are unsure. Whether a particular merchant accepts a given card is ultimately decided at checkout.

Step-by-step: paying for a Best Buy order or membership

  1. Create your virtual card in Coinepay. Open the app, add a new card, and top up enough to cover the price and any tax. Note the card number, expiry and CVV.
  2. Sign in to Best Buy. Log in to your My Best Buy account on the Best Buy site or app for your country.
  3. Add the item or membership to your cart. For U.S. paid tiers, open the membership page and use the Add to cart button for Plus or Total. In Canada, the membership product page requires you to agree to its terms before Add to Cart.
  4. Go to checkout and enter your card. Type the Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown in the app.
  5. Enter the matching billing address. Use the billing name and address tied to your Coinepay card so the authorization check passes.
  6. Complete any verification. If a 3-D Secure or one-time passcode step appears, approve it. Watch for confirmation prompts in the Coinepay app.
  7. Confirm and save your receipt. Submit the order and keep the confirmation email.

Managing a membership and renewals

In the U.S. account area, saved cards live under Payments, while memberships are managed under Plans & Subscriptions. Best Buy's paid-tier disclosure notes that another card on file may be charged if the chosen renewal card has a problem, so keep your details current. Because paid memberships renew automatically, make sure your Coinepay card has enough balance before the renewal date, or update the card on file ahead of time.

In Canada, the membership page directs members to a self-service portal for membership details and payment methods; the terms also list bestbuy.ca/billing or 1-866-BESTBUY for payment-method changes.

Troubleshooting a declined card

If your payment does not go through, work through these common causes.

Insufficient balance

The most frequent reason is not enough funds for the price plus tax, or for an upcoming auto-renewal. Check your Coinepay balance in the app and top up, then retry. For U.S. product orders, Best Buy says a failed authorization triggers an email and the order is cancelled if the issue is not fixed within 24 hours (this is an order rule, not a confirmed membership-renewal deadline).

Billing address mismatch

Users have reported pre-order emails saying billing information did not match, sometimes with requests to re-enter the card security code. Re-check that the billing name, address and postal code at Best Buy match the details registered to your Coinepay card exactly.

3-D Secure or security-code prompts

If checkout asks for a security code or a verification step, enter the CVV from the Coinepay app and approve any confirmation prompt. Missing this step can cause a decline.

Merchant region checks

Best Buy runs regional storefronts. One user reported the message "Unfortunately, we were unable to process your credit c@rd" when trying a Canadian card on the U.S. site (the cause was not established). Use the Best Buy site for your own country and a card that matches that region's checkout. For BestBuy.ca, the online policy says listed major cards may be issued by Canadian or American financial institutions.

Card type requirement

Since the U.S. membership FAQ requires a credit card for paid tiers, a decline may relate to the card type rather than your balance. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy.

Cancelling a membership

U.S. Plus and Total cannot be returned but can be cancelled online under Plans & Subscriptions or by calling 1-888-237-8289. Cancelling within 60 days of purchase or renewal qualifies for the paid term's refund minus benefits used; later cancellation is day-prorated minus benefits used. In Canada, you can cancel any time via 1-866-BESTBUY; cancelling within the first 30 days refunds payments less services received, and cancelling later before paying the equivalent of 12 monthly payments can incur a Service Recovery Fee, except where prohibited by law.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to pay for a Best Buy membership?

You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Best Buy checkout. Note that Best Buy's U.S. membership FAQ states a credit card is required to activate a paid tier, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before buying, and make sure the card has enough balance for the price plus tax.

How much does a Best Buy membership cost?

At the time of writing (October 2026), U.S. My Best Buy Plus is US$29.99/year and My Best Buy Total is US$199.99/year, both auto-renewing. Puerto Rico's Total is US$149.99/year in-store only, and Canada's Best Buy Membership is C$19.99/month. Prices vary by region, so check Best Buy's official membership page.

Why was my card declined at Best Buy checkout?

Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that does not match your card, a missed 3-D Secure or security-code step, or using a card on the wrong regional storefront. Check your Coinepay balance, confirm your billing details match, and use the Best Buy site for your country.

Where do I update the card used for membership renewals?

In the U.S. account, saved cards are under Payments and memberships under Plans & Subscriptions. In Canada, use the self-service membership portal, bestbuy.ca/billing or 1-866-BESTBUY. Update your card before the renewal date to avoid a failed charge.

Can I cancel a Best Buy membership and get a refund?

U.S. Plus and Total can be cancelled under Plans & Subscriptions or by calling 1-888-237-8289; cancelling within 60 days refunds the term minus benefits used, and later cancellation is day-prorated. Canada allows cancellation via 1-866-BESTBUY, with a possible Service Recovery Fee after the first 30 days.
