Sending money from the United States to Ecuador with Coinepay starts with a verified account and accurate recipient details. Ecuador uses the U.S. dollar (USD), so a USD payout does not require conversion into a separate Ecuadorian currency. This guide explains what to collect for bank deposit, mobile-wallet payout or cash pickup, how to review your transfer, and what to do if it is delayed.
What you need before sending
Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before starting a transfer. You can manage transfers through the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you need an account, register with Coinepay. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations; Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose of the payment or the source of funds.
Ask the recipient for their full legal name as it appears on their identification or receiving account. Also confirm how they want to receive the money. The details you enter depend on the payout method, and the app will show the fields required for the option available to you. Get the information directly from the recipient rather than copying it from an old transfer: an account, wallet or pickup arrangement may have changed.
- Bank deposit: Obtain the Ecuadorian bank’s name, the recipient’s account number and account type. Ask the bank or recipient whether its incoming-transfer instructions also require a SWIFT/BIC, correspondent-bank details or other bank information.
- Mobile wallet: If a wallet payout is offered for this transfer, obtain the recipient’s registered wallet details, such as the mobile number requested in the app, and confirm that the wallet belongs to the named recipient.
- Cash pickup: Obtain the recipient’s legal name and any other identity or contact details requested in the transfer form. The recipient will need acceptable identification and the collection information provided for the transfer.
The provider or receiving institution may also request the recipient’s address, contact details, Ecuadorian identification number (cédula) or payment purpose. If a required field is unclear, ask the recipient to check with their bank or payout provider before you submit the transfer.
Choose the right payout method for Ecuador
Bank-account deposit
Bank deposit sends the payout to an account in Ecuador. Confirm the recipient’s bank name, exact account number and whether the account is a savings or checking account, using the account type specified by the bank. Use the name registered to that account; even a small mismatch can lead to a review or a return.
Do not invent an Ecuadorian IBAN. Ecuador has no registered national IBAN format. For an Ecuadorian account, use the account number supplied by its bank. If the transfer instructions call for an international SWIFT wire, request the bank’s SWIFT/BIC and any required correspondent-bank instructions. A U.S. ABA or routing number may identify a U.S. correspondent bank, but it does not replace the Ecuadorian recipient’s account number or the receiving bank’s BIC. IFSC and CLABE are not standard Ecuadorian recipient codes. Enter a bank code or additional instruction only when the receiving bank provides it and the transfer form calls for it.
For example, a recipient who banks with Banco Pichincha, Banco Guayaquil, Banco del Pacífico or Produbanco should obtain instructions for their own account from that bank. Do not assume that instructions published for one bank apply to another, or that a transfer will use an international wire simply because it crosses a border. Follow the payout fields shown in Coinepay and the receiving bank’s applicable instructions.
Mobile-wallet payout
Choose mobile-wallet payout only if Coinepay shows an eligible wallet for your U.S.–Ecuador transfer. Ask the recipient to confirm the exact wallet account identifier requested, that the wallet is active and that its registered name matches their legal name. The recipient may need access to the wallet and may have to complete the wallet provider’s own verification before using the funds.
Check the specific wallet shown in the app rather than assuming a familiar wallet operates as an Ecuador payout option. A payment arranged in a mobile banking app can still be a bank-account deposit, not a wallet payout. If no suitable wallet appears, consider an available bank-deposit or cash-pickup option instead. For help understanding the options shown for your transfer, contact Coinepay support.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup lets the recipient collect the payout at an eligible location shown for the transfer. Before choosing it, ask whether the recipient can reach the listed location and bring a current, acceptable identity document bearing the name entered on the transfer. After confirmation, give the recipient the pickup instructions and transaction or collection code shown for the transfer; share that information only with the intended recipient.
Collection depends on the location’s opening hours and its identification checks. A recipient should check the location and required documents before traveling. Ecuadorian bank partners may offer collection at branches or other service points—for example, Banco Pichincha describes cash collection at branches and Mi Vecino points for its partner remittance services—but use only the location and instructions offered for your Coinepay transfer.
How to send the transfer step by step
- Sign in to your verified account. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and start a Global Remittance transfer. Complete any requested verification or information prompts using your real details.
- Choose the destination and currency. Select Ecuador as the destination, enter the amount and choose the currency displayed for the payout. Ecuador uses USD; check the currency and amount shown on your transfer review rather than assuming that currency conversion applies.
- Select the payout method. Choose an available bank deposit, mobile-wallet payout or cash-pickup option. The available providers and required fields are shown in the transfer flow.
- Enter and verify recipient information. Copy the recipient’s legal name and payout details carefully. For bank deposit, check the account type and number and any bank or correspondent instructions requested. For cash pickup, check the name against the recipient’s ID.
- Review before confirming. Read the displayed exchange rate, if applicable, and fees, as well as the payout amount, destination, recipient and method. Coinepay shows the rate and fees before you confirm. If anything looks wrong, correct it before proceeding.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only after reviewing the details. Follow its status in Coinepay’s transfer tracking, and pass along any recipient-facing collection instructions when relevant.
What the recipient should expect
Ecuador’s legal-tender currency is USD. A recipient receiving USD therefore does not need to exchange it into a separate Ecuadorian national currency. They should still check the payout amount and method displayed for the specific transfer. For a bank deposit, they may need to ask their bank about account requirements or provide information about the payment. For a wallet payout, the wallet provider’s account rules apply. For cash pickup, identification and the location’s collection procedures apply.
Ecuadorian financial institutions may ask about the purpose and origin of funds as part of their due diligence. The tax treatment of money received can depend on what it represents—for example, a personal gift and a business payment may raise different questions. Ecuador’s tax on funds leaving the country should not be assumed to apply automatically merely because someone receives a transfer from the United States. The recipient can ask a qualified local adviser about their circumstances.
Troubleshooting a delayed or returned transfer
- Wrong recipient or bank details: Compare the transfer details with the recipient’s ID and the bank’s instructions. A wrong account number, account type, name or required bank instruction can cause a delay, rejection or return. Contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference; do not assume a confirmed transfer can still be edited.
- Compliance review: Respond to requests for identity documents, the payment purpose or proof of source of funds through the appropriate Coinepay channel. The receiving institution may also request information from the recipient. Transfers are screened against sanctions lists, and Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
- Status has not advanced: Check tracking first. Funding checks, bank processing, intermediary banks, weekends, holidays or additional security checks may affect progress. For cash pickup, confirm that the recipient has the required ID and collection details and that the location is open.
- Transfer is returned: Check the stated reason and verify the recipient’s details before starting another transfer. Ask support how the return is being handled and review the rate and fees shown before confirming any new transfer. Do not split or reroute a payment to avoid a review.
If the status or requested information is unclear, contact Coinepay support with your transfer reference. Keep recipient account numbers and identity documents out of public messages.

FAQ
Does an Ecuadorian recipient need an IBAN?
No national Ecuadorian IBAN format is registered. For bank deposit, obtain the recipient’s bank account number and follow the bank details requested in the transfer form.
Do I need a SWIFT/BIC to send money to Ecuador?
It depends on the bank instructions and transfer method. If an international SWIFT wire is required, ask the receiving bank for its SWIFT/BIC and any correspondent-bank details.
Can my recipient collect cash instead of receiving a bank deposit?
Choose cash pickup if it appears for your transfer. The recipient will need the collection instructions and acceptable identification matching the name on the transfer.
Why is my Ecuador transfer under review?
Identity, sanctions or receiving-institution checks may require more information about the recipient, payment purpose or source of funds. Check transfer tracking and respond to any document request.
