Airtel Payments Bank is a widely used wallet and payments account in India, held in Indian rupees (INR) and linked to an active Indian mobile connection. If you are abroad and need to send money to a friend, family member or supplier who receives into an Airtel Payments Bank account, you can use Coinepay Global Remittance to deliver the funds in INR. This guide explains what details you need from your recipient, how to set up the transfer, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Before you start, make sure you have registered with Coinepay and completed identity verification (KYC). You can create your account and manage everything from the iOS app, the Android app or the 24/7 self-service dashboard.
Where Airtel Payments Bank is used
These instructions concern Airtel Payments Bank in India, which operates in Indian rupees. It is a separate service from Airtel Money products offered in other countries, so always confirm your recipient holds an Indian Airtel Payments Bank account before you send. With Coinepay you choose the destination country and currency, and Coinepay converts and delivers the money locally in INR; your recipient does not need to receive foreign currency.
What you need from your recipient
Collect the following before you begin, and check each detail with your recipient directly:
- Registered Indian mobile number — the number the Airtel Payments Bank wallet is linked to. The wallet is tied to an active Indian mobile connection; it does not have to be an Airtel-network number.
- Full name exactly as registered with Airtel Payments Bank. Spelling and name order must match the account records, or the payout can be delayed or rejected.
- A verified wallet. Airtel's own rules require the recipient to have a verified wallet account to receive a transfer. If your recipient's wallet is minimum-KYC or unverified, ask them to complete their verification in the Airtel Payments Bank app first.
Recipient wallet limits and verification levels
How much your recipient can hold and receive depends on their verification level with Airtel, not on Coinepay. These are Airtel's published wallet limits, not Coinepay fees or limits:
- Minimum-KYC wallet: Airtel's terms set a maximum balance of ₹9,000, monthly credits of ₹9,000 and annual credits of ₹1,10,000. A payout that would push the wallet over one of these ceilings can fail.
- Full-KYC wallet: a higher regulatory balance ceiling applies, and the recipient has completed fuller verification with Airtel.
If your recipient expects a larger amount than their current level allows, ask them to upgrade their KYC with Airtel before you send. Airtel has also introduced a wallet annual maintenance charge (₹100 excluding GST from 1 October 2026, taken in quarterly instalments) that can affect their balance; that is an Airtel charge between the recipient and Airtel, separate from your Coinepay transfer.
Step by step: sending with Coinepay
- Open Coinepay and go to the remittance or "Send money" section in the app or dashboard.
- Choose the destination: select India as the country and INR as the payout currency.
- Select the payout method: choose the mobile wallet / bank payout option and pick Airtel Payments Bank as the receiving provider.
- Enter the recipient's details: their registered Indian mobile number or account ID and their full name exactly as registered. Double-check every digit of the phone number.
- Enter the amount you want to send. Coinepay will show you the amount your recipient will receive in INR.
- Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay displays the rate, any fees and the final amount clearly before you confirm. The estimated arrival time is also shown on this screen.
- Confirm the transfer. You may be asked to verify your identity again or to provide the purpose or source of funds — this is part of standard compliance screening.
- Track the status. Every Coinepay transfer has live status tracking in the app, so you can follow it from sent to delivered.
How fast does it arrive?
Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual delivery time depends on the payout method and the destination country. The estimate you see on the confirmation screen is specific to your transfer, so rely on that figure rather than a fixed promise.
How your recipient sees the money arrive
When the payout completes, the funds are credited to the recipient's Airtel Payments Bank wallet balance in INR. Airtel typically sends an SMS to the registered mobile number to confirm a completed credit, and the recipient can see the entry under View transactions in the Airtel Payments Bank app. Ask them to make sure they are logged into the correct account if they do not see it immediately.
Troubleshooting
Wrong mobile number
If you entered the wrong number, the payout may fail or reach the wrong person. Do not create a second transfer until the first one is resolved. Open the transfer in Coinepay, check its status, and contact Coinepay support right away so they can help recall or correct it where possible.
Name mismatch
If the name you entered does not match the name registered on the Airtel wallet, the transfer can be held or returned. Confirm the exact registered spelling with your recipient and update the details or reach out to support before resending.
Wallet limit reached
A minimum-KYC wallet that is already near its ₹9,000 balance cap or its monthly or annual credit ceiling may be unable to accept the full amount. Ask your recipient to check their balance and limits, or to upgrade their verification level, then try again.
Unverified wallet
Airtel requires a verified wallet to receive transfers. If your recipient's wallet is unverified, the payout cannot complete until they finish KYC in the Airtel Payments Bank app.
Frozen, dormant or restricted wallet
Airtel can restrict a wallet for fraud controls, loss of the linked mobile connection, dormancy or technical issues. In these cases the recipient needs to resolve the issue directly with Airtel (its customer line is 1800-23400) before the money can be received.
Compliance review on the Coinepay side
Every transfer is subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask you for documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Respond promptly with accurate information to clear the review. Never split a transfer, use a third party or provide false details to avoid checks — doing so can cause the transfer to be blocked.
Good to know before you send
Use your own real identity and your recipient's real, registered details. Coinepay sends to nearly every country and region, but screens all customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and cannot serve sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
If you are unsure whether your recipient's wallet type can receive a particular amount, it is best to confirm with them and with Airtel first. For anything about your Coinepay transfer status, fees or verification, contact Coinepay support or reach the team on Telegram. You can also learn more about the service on the Coinepay home page.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to an Airtel Payments Bank account?
You need the recipient's registered Indian mobile number (or account ID) and their full name exactly as it appears on the Airtel Payments Bank account. The wallet must also be verified to receive funds.
How long does a Coinepay transfer to Airtel Payments Bank take?
Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination. Coinepay shows an estimated arrival time before you confirm, and you can track the status in the app.
Can my recipient receive any amount?
No. The amount depends on their Airtel verification level. A minimum-KYC wallet has balance and credit limits set by Airtel; if a payout would exceed them it can fail. Ask your recipient to upgrade their KYC for larger amounts.
Will Coinepay show the exchange rate and fees before I send?
Yes. Coinepay displays the exchange rate, any fees and the final amount your recipient will receive in INR on the confirmation screen before you confirm the transfer.
What happens if I enter the wrong number or name?
The payout may be delayed, returned or sent to the wrong wallet. Do not resend immediately. Check the transfer status in Coinepay and contact support so they can help correct or recall it where possible.
