GoPay is one of Indonesia's most widely used digital wallets, and it's a convenient way to get money to family, friends or contractors who live there. With Coinepay Global Remittance you can send a cross-border transfer and have it paid out to a recipient's GoPay wallet in Indonesian rupiah (IDR), managed entirely from the Coinepay app or dashboard. This guide walks through what you need, how the transfer works, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Before you start

GoPay is an Indonesian mobile wallet, so transfers are paid out in Indonesian rupiah (IDR). A few things to have ready:

  • A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you haven't registered yet, create an account and finish verification first.
  • The Coinepay app for iOS or Android, or the self-service dashboard.
  • The recipient's details, exactly as described below.

Coinepay sends to Indonesia and nearly every other country, with the exception of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. Every transfer is subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations, and Coinepay may ask for supporting documents such as the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.

What details you need from the recipient

To pay into a GoPay wallet, collect the following from the person you're sending to:

  • The mobile phone number registered to their GoPay account. GoPay accounts are tied to an Indonesian mobile number, so this is the key field. Enter it in the exact format the Coinepay payout screen asks for.
  • Their full name exactly as it appears on their GoPay account. For a verified account this matches their national ID (e-KTP) or, for foreign nationals, their passport. A mismatch can cause the payout to fail.

Double-check the number and name with the recipient before you send. A single wrong digit or a nickname that doesn't match the registered name is the most common reason a wallet payout is delayed or returned.

Verification levels and wallet limits to be aware of

GoPay has two account tiers, and the recipient's tier affects how much their wallet can hold and receive. The basic account is the standard tier, and the verified tier is called GoPay Plus, which a user upgrades to by submitting an original e-KTP (or a passport for foreign nationals) photo and a selfie from profile → Settings and security → Account and app settings → GoPay Plus → Upgrade now.

GoPay publishes two kinds of ceilings that matter when money arrives:

  • Stored balance ceiling — the maximum balance the wallet can hold at any moment. A regular account tops out lower than a GoPay Plus account, so the recipient must have room under this ceiling for your transfer to land.
  • Monthly cumulative incoming ceiling — the total amount that can flow into the wallet in a calendar month. Incoming top-ups and transfers both count toward it, and GoPay resets the counter on the first of each month.

If your recipient receives money regularly or your amount is large, ask them to confirm they are on GoPay Plus and have headroom before you send. These Bank Indonesia–regulated limits are set by GoPay, not by Coinepay. For exact rupiah figures, point the recipient to GoPay's official help pages, as they can change.

Step by step: sending to GoPay with Coinepay

  1. Open Coinepay and start a transfer. In the app or dashboard, choose Global Remittance and start a new transfer.
  2. Choose Indonesia as the destination and select the mobile wallet payout method, then pick GoPay as the wallet.
  3. Enter the recipient details. Type the registered GoPay mobile number in the format shown, and the recipient's full name exactly as registered on their account.
  4. Enter the amount. You can set the amount to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive in IDR, depending on the screen.
  5. Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the rate and any fees clearly before you confirm, along with the final amount the recipient will receive. Review every field carefully.
  6. Confirm and authorize. Approve the transfer. If prompted, provide any requested information such as the purpose or source of funds — this is part of standard compliance screening.

Once confirmed, the transfer is submitted for payout to the recipient's GoPay wallet.

Tracking the transfer and how the recipient sees it

Every Coinepay transfer has status tracking. Open the transfer in your Coinepay history to follow it from submitted through to paid out. You'll be able to see when the payout completes.

On the recipient's side, the money appears as an increase in their GoPay balance, and they can see it listed in their GoPay transaction history. Ask them to open the GoPay app and check their balance and history if they want to confirm arrival.

Troubleshooting

Wrong phone number

If you entered an incorrect number, the payout may fail or could route to the wrong account. Stop and check the transfer status in Coinepay first. If it hasn't completed, contact Coinepay support right away with your transfer reference. Always verify the number with the recipient before sending.

Name mismatch

If the name you entered doesn't match the name registered on the GoPay account, the payout can be rejected. Confirm the exact registered name with the recipient and contact Coinepay support to correct the details or arrange a resend.

Wallet balance or monthly limit reached

If the recipient's wallet is at its balance ceiling, or they have hit their monthly cumulative incoming limit, the deposit may not go through. Ask them to spend down their balance or wait for the monthly counter to reset on the first of the month. Upgrading to GoPay Plus raises both ceilings.

Unverified wallet

A basic (unverified) GoPay account has lower ceilings than GoPay Plus. If your transfer exceeds what a basic account can receive, ask the recipient to upgrade to GoPay Plus from Settings and security → Account and app settings → GoPay Plus by submitting their e-KTP (or passport) and a selfie, then try again.

Transfer under compliance review

Transfers are screened against sanctions lists and may be held for additional checks. Coinepay may ask you for documents such as proof of the purpose or source of funds. Respond promptly through the app to keep the transfer moving. Never attempt to split a transfer, use a third party, or otherwise work around these checks.

Payout still missing after it shows complete

If Coinepay shows the payout as complete but the recipient doesn't see it, have them refresh the GoPay app and check their GoPay transaction history. If it's still missing, contact Coinepay support with the transfer reference so they can trace it with the payout partner.

A note on GoPay's own features

GoPay has its own in-app tools, such as Transfer dan terima for sending between GoPay users and a separate flow for sending out to other Indonesian e-wallets, as well as a 2026 "Transfer Luar Negeri" feature for sending money abroad from GoPay. Those are GoPay's own outbound tools and work differently from receiving an international transfer into a GoPay wallet. When you send with Coinepay, follow the recipient-field format and quote shown in the Coinepay app rather than GoPay's outbound rules.

FAQ

What details do I need to send money to someone's GoPay?

You need the mobile phone number registered to their GoPay account and their full name exactly as it appears on the account. Confirm both with the recipient before sending, since a wrong digit or a name that doesn't match is the most common cause of a failed payout.

In what currency does GoPay receive the money?

GoPay is an Indonesian wallet, so payouts are made in Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees clearly before you confirm, along with the final amount the recipient will receive.

What if my recipient's GoPay wallet has reached its limit?

GoPay sets a stored-balance ceiling and a monthly cumulative incoming ceiling, which are higher for verified GoPay Plus accounts. If a limit is reached, the recipient can spend down their balance, wait for the monthly counter to reset on the first of the month, or upgrade to GoPay Plus, then you can resend.

How can I track whether the money arrived?

Open the transfer in your Coinepay history to follow its status through to payout. On the recipient's side, the money appears as an increase in their GoPay balance and is listed in their GoPay transaction history.

Why might my transfer be held for review?

All transfers are screened against sanctions lists and subject to local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Respond promptly in the app; never try to split the transfer or route it through a third party to avoid checks.
