Sending money to family overseas can be straightforward, but an urgent request, unfamiliar bank details or a new pickup method can make a mistake costly. This guide explains how to verify the request, prepare the recipient’s information and use Coinepay Global Remittance to send and track a transfer. It also covers what to do if something goes wrong.
Make sure a money transfer is the right choice
If your family member needs money in their own bank account, mobile wallet or as cash, use a cross-border transfer rather than a virtual card. Coinepay Global Remittance supports bank deposits, mobile wallets and cash pickup, subject to the destination and the options shown for your transfer. The Coinepay virtual card is for online payments, such as shopping or subscriptions; it is not a substitute for sending money directly to a relative.
Before starting, ask your family member how they can receive the money. A bank deposit may require account and bank identifiers; a wallet payout requires the correct wallet details; cash pickup requires the recipient to visit a collection location and meet its identification requirements. Confirm the available route in the Coinepay app before promising a particular method.
Verify the request before you pay
If a message says your relative urgently needs money, call them using a number you already know belongs to them. Do not rely only on a new number in the message, a social-media account or a familiar-sounding voice: voices can be imitated. Ask what the money is for and confirm the recipient details directly. If someone asks you to send to a different person or account at the last moment, pause and verify the change through that trusted contact channel.
Use your own account and accurate identity information. Do not send on behalf of someone else to avoid checks, and do not divide a transfer to avoid questions or reporting. If the request does not make sense or you cannot confirm it with your relative, wait before sending.
What to prepare for a family transfer
- Your account and identity documents: Be ready to register and complete any identity verification requested for the service. Coinepay may also request information or documents about the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.
- The recipient’s legal name: Ask your relative to provide the name they use for their bank account, wallet or identification document, as appropriate for the payout route. Check spelling and name order carefully.
- Destination and payout details: For a bank deposit, ask for the exact account number and bank details required for that country. Some routes use an IBAN (International Bank Account Number); others do not. A BIC, often called a SWIFT code, identifies a financial institution, but it may not be the only detail needed. For a mobile wallet, confirm the wallet provider and the recipient details the transfer form requests.
- Cash pickup arrangements, if selected: Confirm that your relative can reach the available pickup location and ask what identification they must present. Requirements vary by provider and destination.
Have your relative send details through a trusted channel, then read them back before submitting. An incorrect account number or institution identifier can prevent delivery or send funds to the wrong place; correcting a misdirected transfer may not always be possible.
How to send with Coinepay Global Remittance
- Open Coinepay and sign in. Use the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app for iOS or Android. If you are new, register and complete the verification requested before using the service.
- Start a Global Remittance transfer. Enter the destination and the amount you want to send. Choose from the payout methods offered for that transfer, such as bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup. For example, supported wallet routes can include UPI, GCash, Maya, M-Pesa, bKash, JazzCash and GoPay; availability depends on the destination and the options shown.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Copy the legal name and the bank, wallet or pickup information from what your relative confirmed. Complete any requested purpose-of-transfer information truthfully.
- Review the quote and every field. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Check the total you will pay, the expected recipient amount and the displayed payout details. If comparing providers, compare quotes for the same destination, amount and delivery route—not just an advertised fee. A recipient bank charge or local tax may affect what your relative ultimately receives.
- Confirm only when everything matches. Authorize the transfer using the payment options presented to you. Save the receipt or transaction reference and use Coinepay’s transfer-status tracking to follow its progress. Share a reference with your relative only if they need it to collect or identify the payment; keep account access and verification codes private.
Coinepay transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, such as Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria and the occupied regions of Ukraine. A recipient or financial institution may also be restricted even when a destination is otherwise available. If a route is unavailable or more information is requested, do not try another person or route to bypass the check.
Keep records and confirm receipt
Keep the quote, confirmation, receipt, transaction reference and any relevant correspondence with your family member. Ask them to confirm when funds arrive or are collected, including the amount they actually receive. For cash pickup, make sure they follow the displayed collection instructions and bring the identification required at that location. Do not post transfer references or recipient details publicly.
If you are sending from the United States, consumer remittance protections may apply to a covered transfer. The provider’s disclosures and receipt are important: review their instructions for reporting an error or requesting cancellation. Whether a particular protection applies depends on the transaction. If you are uncertain, ask the provider promptly rather than assuming you can reverse a completed payout.
Troubleshooting common problems
The transfer needs review or documents
Check for a request in your Coinepay dashboard or app and respond with accurate information. Identity, fraud-prevention and sanctions checks can affect a transfer. You may be asked to explain its purpose or provide documents about your source of funds. If you do not understand the request, contact Coinepay support through an official channel.
The recipient details are wrong
Contact support as soon as you notice the error. Provide the transaction reference, the details you entered and the correction. Do not submit a second transfer until you understand what is happening with the first. A wrong account or bank identifier can be difficult to recover after funds are paid out.
Your relative says the money has not arrived
Check the transfer status and receipt first. Confirm with your relative that they are checking the selected bank account, wallet or pickup route. If the transfer appears complete but they cannot find it, report the issue to support with the reference and supporting details. For a U.S. covered remittance transfer, report a suspected error promptly; federal rules generally allow notice within 180 days after the disclosed availability date. Other rules may apply depending on the transfer.
You need to cancel
Use the cancellation instructions on your receipt or contact support immediately. For many covered U.S. remittance transfers, a request made within 30 minutes after payment can qualify for cancellation if the funds have not already been deposited or picked up. Separately, advance-scheduled transfers have different cancellation rules. Eligibility depends on the transaction, so do not wait to ask.
If a problem remains unresolved, keep your records and ask support for its decision in writing. U.S. consumers can also submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau when appropriate.
