Wasabi Technologies sells Hot Cloud Storage, an object-storage service popular for backups and archives. If you are planning to pay with a Coinepay virtual card, there is an important detail to settle first: Wasabi's documented payment policy is strict about which cards it accepts. This guide explains that policy honestly, walks through Wasabi's sign-up and checkout flow, and covers the card-declined messages Wasabi actually documents so you know what to do if a payment fails.
Read this before you buy: Wasabi's card policy
According to Wasabi's own documentation reviewed in October 2026, Pay as You Go (Pay-Go) accepts non-prepaid credit cards only. Its payment pages state that it does not accept debit cards, prepaid cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Venmo or cryptocurrency. Wasabi also says plainly that virtual credit cards do not work with its payment processor.
That is a merchant restriction set by Wasabi, not by Coinepay. Because of it, you should not assume any virtual card will be accepted at Wasabi checkout. Coinepay does not decide whether a given merchant accepts a given card. Before you try to pay:
- Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and review your card details and funding.
- Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Wasabi's "non-prepaid credit card" requirement before you buy. If it does not qualify under that rule, do not attempt the payment.
The Reserved Capacity Storage (RCS) model has broader options: Wasabi lists bank wire, check, credit card or invoice for RCS. RCS is purchased through Wasabi Sales rather than the self-service Pay-Go portal, so if a card is not an option for you, an RCS wire or invoice arrangement may be. Qualifying businesses can also ask Wasabi support about invoice payment for Pay-Go.
What you'll need
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity verification (KYC) before using card services. Manage everything from the 24/7 dashboard or the Coinepay app for iOS and Android.
- Your real billing details — the name and billing address linked to the card. Use your genuine information; never enter invented addresses or identities.
- Confirmation from Coinepay support that your card type fits Wasabi's rule.
- A Wasabi account. Wasabi bills in USD.
Step 1: Create your Wasabi account and start the trial
Sign-up begins on the Wasabi website with Try Free / Sign Up. Enter your account details and accept the emailed invitation to activate the account. Wasabi's documentation says the trial does not require a credit card; the current time and data limits of the trial are not stated in its updated article, so check the Wasabi trial page for the latest terms. You can explore the Management Console before adding any payment method.
Step 2: Choose a plan
Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage has one object-storage tier with two payment models:
- Pay as You Go (Pay-Go) — billed by usage with a 1 TB monthly minimum and a 90-day minimum storage-duration charge for objects deleted early. At the time of writing (October 2026), Wasabi publishes Pay-Go object storage at US$7.99 per TB per month across North America, EMEA and APAC, with taxes and optional services extra. This US$7.99 figure took effect July 1, 2026.
- Reserved Capacity Storage (RCS) — prepaid for 1, 3 or 5 years, starting at 25 TB, discounted by capacity and term, and including mandatory Premium Support. Wasabi directs customers to request a quote, so RCS prices are not published per combination.
Wasabi also lists Wasabi Cloud NAS at US$9.99 per TB per month (10 TB monthly minimum) and Wasabi Surveillance Cloud as "Contact Sales." Prices vary by region and change over time, so always confirm current figures on Wasabi's official pricing page before you commit.
Step 3: Go to Pay-Go checkout
For Pay-Go, you can select "Ready to Purchase? Click Here to Check Out" during sign-up, or use Upgrade Now / Billing during the trial. You will add a payment method, consent to auto-renewal, and click Upgrade. Note that becoming a paid customer ends the trial immediately.
If you are buying RCS instead, you will not use this portal checkout — the purchase goes through Wasabi Sales.
Step 4: Add your card in Payment Settings
Billing lives in the Management Console under Billing (also reachable from the account menu). Its tabs are Billing Overview, Payment Settings and Billing Preferences. In Payment Settings you manage your cards, set the default card, and enter billing information.
When you add a card, Wasabi triggers a temporary US$1 authorization — this is a verification hold, not a completed charge. Enter the exact billing name and address tied to your Coinepay card so this check passes. Be careful and accurate: Wasabi's documentation says five invalid card-number entries lock card registration, after which you must contact Wasabi support to restore it.
Pay-Go normally invoices and charges every 30 days based on your usage.
Troubleshooting: card declined and payment errors
Wasabi documents specific submission errors, including "Problem with card, please contact support" and "Card declined." Here are the causes it names and what to check on the Coinepay side.
Card type not accepted
Wasabi states that virtual credit cards do not work with its processor and that prepaid and debit cards are not accepted for Pay-Go. This is the most likely reason a virtual card fails here. If you hit this, do not keep retrying — confirm your card type with Coinepay support, and consider RCS (wire/check/invoice) or a business invoice arrangement with Wasabi instead.
Billing address mismatch
An incorrect billing address is a listed cause of rejection. In the Coinepay app, check the exact name and billing address on your card and re-enter them in Payment Settings so they match character for character.
Insufficient funds or expiration
Wasabi names insufficient funds and card expiration as failure causes. Make sure your Coinepay card has enough available balance for the US$1 authorization and the upcoming charge, and that the expiry date you entered is current.
Issuing-country / 3-D Secure checks
Wasabi says some issuing countries may not be supported by its processor and lists non-US issuer restrictions as a possible cause. If your issuer prompts a 3-D Secure or one-time-code verification, complete it in the Coinepay app. Wasabi retries failed charges twice at roughly 24-hour intervals; after that, suspension or deletion of the account can follow, so resolve failures quickly.
If an error persists after you have verified funding, billing details and card eligibility, contact Wasabi support for the merchant-side detail and Coinepay support for anything on the card side.
Managing, renewing and cancelling
Pay-Go continues until the root user deletes the account via Settings → Delete Account. Deletion immediately removes stored data, and a final prorated usage or minimum charge can follow. RCS purchases are non-cancellable and non-refundable; unless you cancel at least 30 days before the end date, an RCS plan renews for another year at the then-current price. A general refund entitlement for paid Pay-Go usage is not stated in Wasabi's published guidance, so treat charges as final and plan accordingly.
A quick recap
Wasabi's Pay-Go portal accepts only non-prepaid credit cards and says virtual credit cards do not work with its processor — so confirm your card's eligibility with Coinepay support before you try, and look at RCS wire/invoice or a Wasabi invoice arrangement if a card is not an option. Keep your Coinepay funding and billing details accurate, complete any verification prompt in the app, and watch Wasabi's 24-hour retry window so a failed charge does not lead to suspension.

FAQ
Does Wasabi accept virtual cards?
Wasabi's documentation says Pay-Go accepts non-prepaid credit cards only and states that virtual credit cards do not work with its processor. Before trying, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets Wasabi's requirement, and consider RCS (which also allows bank wire, check or invoice) or a business invoice arrangement if a card is not an option.
Why was my card declined at Wasabi?
Wasabi documents causes including card type not accepted (prepaid, debit or virtual cards), an incorrect billing address, insufficient funds, an expired card, and unsupported or non-US issuing countries.
