You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Vrbo checkout when a card payment is offered for your reservation. This guide covers what to prepare, how to review and pay for a stay, and what to check if payment is declined. It also explains the separate process for existing hosts renewing an annual listing subscription.

Before you book: what you need

  • A Coinepay account and virtual card. Register and complete identity verification before using card services. You can then find your card number, expiry date and CVV in the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you have not registered, get started with Coinepay.
  • Enough available funds. Check your card’s available balance against the full amount Vrbo asks you to pay now, not just the nightly rate. If you need information about your card’s applicable limits or charges, check the Coinepay app or contact Coinepay support.
  • Your real billing information. Have the name, address and postal code associated with your payment details ready. Enter them accurately rather than substituting the property address or an address in another country.
  • The property’s payment and cancellation details. Review the amount due now, any later payments, the currency and the listing’s cancellation policy before you commit.

Vrbo processes Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, but the options shown at checkout can depend on the property, guest, currency and jurisdiction. A listed payment method does not establish that a particular card will be accepted. Use the methods actually offered for your booking, and contact Coinepay support if you need help checking your card details before paying.

How to book and pay for a Vrbo stay

  1. Find a property on Vrbo. Enter your destination, dates and guest count. Open the listing and check its house rules, available dates and cancellation policy. Policies range from options such as Day-before to No refund, so do not assume every stay has the same refund window.
  2. Start the booking. Select the listing’s booking or reservation option and follow the prompts. Sign in to your Vrbo account or create one if prompted, using your real information and a contact method you can access.
  3. Review the price breakdown. Check the nightly charges, taxes, fees and total displayed for your specific reservation. Vrbo may charge a traveler service fee; its percentage varies by booking. Note whether Vrbo is collecting the full amount now or displaying a payment schedule.
  4. Choose a card if offered. Enter the Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV shown in your app or dashboard. Fill in the cardholder and billing fields with your real details, including the postal code in the format requested by checkout. Do not use the host’s address as your billing address.
  5. Complete any verification prompt. If checkout presents an additional authentication step, follow the instructions on screen. Do not close the page or repeatedly submit payment while that step is in progress.
  6. Check the result. Look for Vrbo’s booking confirmation and review the reservation in your account. If checkout displays an error, check your Vrbo booking status and card activity before trying again. A card transaction appearing in your activity by itself does not confirm that the reservation was completed.

Prices vary by property, dates and region; the final checkout screen is the place to verify your amount. If Vrbo offers another payment option, such as an electronic transfer, follow Vrbo’s instructions for that option rather than entering virtual-card details into an unrelated field. Affirm may appear for certain US properties charged in USD, but it is a separate checkout option, not a Coinepay card feature.

If your Vrbo card payment is declined

Vrbo identifies incorrect payment details, expired cards, transaction limits, online-payment or fraud blocks, unavailable dates, canceled payment requests and postal-code formatting as possible reasons a payment may fail. A decline does not, by itself, identify which one applies. Vrbo advises waiting at least two hours before retrying a rejected payment. Use that time to check the following:

What to checkWhat to do
Available balanceCompare the available funds on your Coinepay card with the amount Vrbo is requesting now, including displayed taxes and fees. If the amount or card activity is unclear, ask Coinepay support before resubmitting.
Card and billing detailsRecheck the number, expiry date and CVV in the Coinepay app. Enter your real billing name, address and postal code carefully; pay attention to the postal-code format Vrbo requests.
Additional authentication, including 3-D SecureIf an authentication screen appears, complete the prompt as directed. If it expires, fails to load or does not give you a way to finish, do not assume the charge succeeded. Check the booking status, then contact Coinepay support about the card-side step and Vrbo about the checkout session.
Merchant or region checksVrbo says some listings cannot take online payments from banks in certain countries; this is not a blanket rule for every listing. A property’s payment setup or a merchant check may also affect the options available. Do not change your location or billing details to get around a restriction. Ask Vrbo which payment methods are available for that reservation, and contact Coinepay support if you need to confirm a card requirement.
Reservation or request statusConfirm the dates are still available and that any payment request has not been canceled. If the listing or request changed, return to the current booking flow rather than retrying an old payment page.

If you still cannot pay after the advised wait, keep the Vrbo error screen or wording, the reservation details and the time of the attempt. Ask Vrbo to check the booking or payment request; ask Coinepay support to review the card-side attempt. Share only the details each support team requests through its official channel, and do not send your full card number or CVV in a message.

What if the booking changes or you need a refund?

Check the cancellation policy attached to your particular Vrbo listing before paying. You can request cancellation through your Vrbo account, but the policy’s deadlines determine whether the stay qualifies for a refund. Vrbo says it automatically returns its service fee when a booking is canceled within the 100% refund window and is fully refunded. If you see a card transaction but no confirmed reservation, contact Vrbo to establish what happened before making another booking. For questions about how a resulting refund appears on your Coinepay card, check the app or contact Coinepay support.

Are you paying for a Vrbo host listing instead?

Vrbo guest bookings and host listing plans are different purchases. New hosts can list under Pay-per-Booking (PPB); Vrbo no longer accepts new Pay-per-Subscription (PPS) listings or switches from PPB to PPS. To start a new listing, choose List your property, enter the bedrooms, bathrooms and property address, sign in or create an account, complete the property details and onboarding, then select Go live. PPB does not require a listing purchase at sign-up.

At the time of writing (October 2026), Vrbo described its standard US PPB charge as 5% commission plus 3% payment processing. These components are calculated on different amounts, not simply as a flat 8% of the booking total. Terms vary by location and account type; check Vrbo’s current official host pricing information and your dashboard before listing. Integrated property managers in Australia and New Zealand cannot pay commissions by credit card: Vrbo specifies BPAY in Australia and bank transfer in New Zealand.

Eligible hosts with an existing annual Subscription Listing may be able to renew it. In the Owner Dashboard, go to Property → Property details → Review plan, choose the annual subscription, enter billing information, review the payment summary, accept the terms and select Place Order. Check the price shown there before paying; Vrbo requires subscription payments in USD. Its listed subscription payment methods include American Express, Mastercard, Visa and PayPal, but that list does not confirm acceptance of any individual virtual card. Subscription cards and Auto Renew are under account icon → Account settings → Payment preferences → Manage Subscription.

If you are an existing subscriber considering a change, review Vrbo’s terms first. Its help guidance describes a 14-day post-purchase cancellation window and an option to switch to PPB. Turning off Auto Renew stops a subsequent term; removing a listing early during a term is generally nonrefundable, subject to the stated exceptions. Subscription listings are unavailable for properties in Brazil.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to book on Vrbo?

You can enter its card details when Vrbo offers a card option. Acceptance depends on the specific checkout and payment checks, so confirm the booking in your Vrbo account after paying.

Why did Vrbo decline my card?

Check your available balance, card and billing details, postal-code format, any authentication prompt, and the reservation’s status. Vrbo advises waiting at least two hours before retrying a rejected payment.

Can I buy a new Vrbo annual host subscription?

No. Vrbo no longer accepts new Pay-per-Subscription listings or conversions from Pay-per-Booking. Eligible existing annual subscribers may be able to renew.

Does canceling a Vrbo booking guarantee a refund?

No. The listing’s cancellation policy and its deadlines control the refund. Review that policy before paying and check your reservation in Vrbo for the applicable terms.
