Everand (formerly Scribd's reading service) lets you unlock ebooks and audiobooks each month on a monthly subscription. This guide walks through what you need, how the sign-up and checkout work, and how to use a Coinepay virtual card for the payment. It also covers an important acceptance rule and the most common reasons a card is declined at checkout.
Before you start: one acceptance rule to check
Everand's payment-methods help page lists the cards it accepts as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express credit or debit cards. It states plainly that prepaid and non-reloadable cards are not accepted. That restriction is set by Everand, not by Coinepay.
Because this matters, confirm your card details before you try to subscribe. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy. Do not assume it does or doesn't - check first, so you don't end up with a failed trial or a subscription on hold.
If a card type isn't accepted, Everand may show a generic authorization error rather than naming the reason, so ruling this out in advance saves time.
What you need
- A registered, verified Coinepay account. If you don't have one yet, create your Coinepay account and complete identity verification (KYC) first. Card services require this step.
- A Coinepay virtual card issued in your dashboard, with its card number, expiry date and CVV visible in the Coinepay app or web dashboard.
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the first charge and future monthly renewals.
- Your real billing details - name, address and country - matching the information on your Coinepay account.
- An Everand account, or the email you'll use to make one.
Everand plans and pricing
Everand offers three monthly plans - Standard, Plus, and Deluxe - which provide 1, 3, and 5 book unlocks per month respectively. In the United States, at the time of writing (October 2026), Standard is US$11.99, Plus is US$16.99, and Deluxe is US$28.99 per month.
Prices vary by region, and the amount charged depends on the billing country of your payment method. Everand says your local price is shown during sign-up. Always confirm the current figure on Everand's official plans page before you subscribe. Note also that annual subscriptions are not sold to new customers; new sign-ups are monthly.
Step 1: Issue and fund your Coinepay virtual card
- Sign in to the Coinepay app or dashboard.
- Create a virtual card, or open an existing one. The card number, expiry and CVV appear instantly.
- Load enough balance to cover at least one month plus upcoming renewals, since Everand bills monthly and will try to charge automatically.
Step 2: Create or sign in to your Everand account
- Go to Everand's official website or open the Everand app.
- Sign in, or sign up with your email. Use your real identity and billing details.
Step 3: Start a subscription on the website
- Open Your Account → Subscription → Start your free trial.
- Choose your plan (Standard, Plus, or Deluxe).
- Enter your card details: the Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Enter the billing address that matches your Coinepay account.
- Review the local price shown, then confirm.
The website free trial runs for 30 days and renews into a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends. On your bank or card statement, the billing name appears as Scribd, Inc.
Step 3 (alternative): Subscribe in the mobile app
In the Everand app you can subscribe through Account → Account Information → Become a Subscriber. Note that a trial started through the App Store or Google Play is 7 days, not 30, and those subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google rather than by Everand. If you want to pay a card directly and manage it on Everand's site, the website route above is usually the clearer choice.
Step 4: Confirm and manage your payment method
For website-billed subscriptions you can review and update your card under profile icon → Your account → Payment information → Manage this payment. Everand lets you store up to three methods, including backups - useful if you want a second funded Coinepay card ready for renewals. To see charge dates and amounts, open Payment information → View history.
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, you must update your payment details through Apple or Google, not on Everand's website.
Troubleshooting: common card-declined causes
If your card is declined or you see a message like "There was a problem authorizing your payment method," work through these checks.
Card type not accepted
Everand does not accept prepaid or non-reloadable cards. If this is the cause, no amount of retrying will help. Confirm your card's eligibility with Coinepay support before trying again, and consider one of Everand's other listed methods where available (PayPal in most countries, Apple Pay on iOS Safari, Google Pay on Chrome, or Venmo for new US subscriptions only).
Insufficient balance
Everand charges the full plan price at checkout (or at the end of a trial). If the card balance is too low, the authorization fails and, on renewal, the subscription can go on hold. Top up in the Coinepay app and retry, or update to a funded card.
Billing address mismatch
If the billing address you type doesn't match the details registered to your card, the charge may be rejected. Re-enter the exact billing information tied to your Coinepay account, with the correct country.
Expiry date or CVV errors
Messages about an incorrect expiration date or CVV mean the card data wasn't entered correctly. Open the card in your Coinepay app and copy the number, expiry and CVV carefully - avoid trailing spaces. If the card was replaced or expired, Everand lists this as a reason renewals fail; add the current card under Payment information.
3-D Secure / authentication
Some charges trigger an extra verification step. Complete any confirmation prompt from Coinepay (in the app or by the method shown) so the authorization can go through. If you dismiss or miss it, the payment may be declined.
Region checks
Everand says the service is available in most countries unless locally blocked, and it can restrict transactions involving sanctioned entities. Individual book availability also varies by publisher licensing. Use your real location and details - don't try to work around a regional block, as that violates Everand's terms.
Cancellations and refunds
To cancel a website subscription, go to Your account → Subscription → Cancel and follow the prompts; cancel an Apple- or Google-billed subscription in that store. Paid access continues through the paid period, but trial access ends immediately on cancellation.
Cancelling does not by itself refund a charge. Everand says it considers refund requests within 30 days that involve unresolved technical issues, defective content, fraud, mistaken charges, or a billing period in which the service was unused, and it does not offer partial-period refunds. Website-purchase refunds are requested through Everand's help-center virtual assistant; Apple and Google handle refunds for purchases billed through their stores. Everand's refund guidance also states that EU and UK subscribers may withdraw within 14 days of purchase for a full refund.
Keeping your Coinepay card ready
Because Everand bills monthly, keep your virtual card funded ahead of each renewal date, which you can see under View history. If you ever need to change cards, add the new one under Payment information before the next charge. For anything about your card itself - balance, eligibility or declines on Coinepay's side - reach out through the Coinepay support channels or the Coinepay Telegram. You can manage your cards anytime from the iOS app or Android app.
