You can use Coinepay Global Remittance to send money from Singapore to a recipient in India. Before starting, ask the recipient how they want to receive it: into an Indian bank account, through an eligible mobile payout option or by cash pickup. The details you need depend on that choice. This guide covers how to prepare the transfer, review it before sending and follow its status.
What you need before sending
Start with a Coinepay account and complete the identity verification requested for your transfer. You can manage the transfer in the Coinepay self-service dashboard or mobile app. Keep your own identity and payment information accurate, and ask the recipient for their full legal name as it appears on their bank account or identity document.
India’s local currency is the Indian rupee (INR, ₹). When setting up a transfer, select India as the destination and check the available sending and receiving currency choices in Coinepay. You will see the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. The payout options and fields shown for your transfer determine which recipient details you must enter.
- For bank deposit: Get the recipient’s account name and account number. Indian account-number formats vary by bank, so copy the number from the recipient’s bank details rather than assuming a standard length. Have the branch’s IFSC ready if requested. IFSC is an 11-character code identifying an Indian bank branch.
- For a bank wire, if offered: Ask the recipient’s bank for its incoming international wire instructions. These may include a SWIFT/BIC, branch address, intermediary-bank details and a required remittance purpose. Enter only the fields Coinepay requests for the selected route.
- For an eligible UPI payout: Ask for the recipient’s exact UPI ID and confirm that it is active and linked to the bank account they expect to receive into. Check whether that recipient and UPI handle are eligible for the option displayed in Coinepay.
- For cash pickup: Make sure the recipient can visit the available collection location and has an accepted identity document bearing the name you enter. Follow the collection instructions provided for the transfer.
India does not use a national IBAN format. Do not create an IBAN from an Indian account number or substitute an unrelated routing code. If you are unsure which bank code a form requires, ask the recipient to confirm it with their bank before you submit the transfer.
Choose how the recipient receives the money
Indian bank-account deposit
Choose bank deposit when the recipient wants funds credited to an Indian account. The recipient should give you the account holder’s legal name, account number and any bank or branch details requested in Coinepay, commonly an IFSC for an Indian local payout. Depending on the route, the final credit may use a local banking system such as NEFT or IMPS, or the transfer may follow international wire instructions. Do not assume that SWIFT/BIC is needed for every bank deposit: use the requirements shown for the option you select.
The receiving bank may check the account holder’s identity and ask the recipient to explain the purpose of an incoming transfer. For a bank wire, it may request an applicable purpose code before crediting the account. Ask the recipient to respond to their bank’s requests using accurate information about the payment.
UPI and other mobile payout options
Coinepay supports local mobile-wallet payout methods, including UPI, where available for the transfer. An eligible UPI payout in India is generally directed to a UPI ID associated with the recipient’s bank account, not automatically to a separate wallet balance. The recipient should confirm the exact UPI ID, its linked account and whether their bank and handle can receive the incoming remittance.
Indian apps such as BHIM, PhonePe and Paytm can be used by eligible recipients for certain Singapore-to-India UPI remittances. That does not mean every user, handle or transfer route is supported. Check the payout choices presented in Coinepay rather than assuming a particular app will work. If a separate wallet payout is displayed, follow its recipient-identification requirements; wallet receipt is subject to eligibility and local rules, and is not a substitute for bank deposit in every case.
Cash pickup
If Coinepay offers cash pickup for your India transfer, select the available collection option and enter the recipient’s legal name exactly as it appears on the identity document they will present. Share the collection instructions and any reference provided after confirmation only with the intended recipient. They should check where to collect, what identification to bring and whether any additional information is required before travelling to the location.
Cash collection is subject to Indian rules and the payout arrangement used. It may not be available for every transfer or payment purpose. If it is not offered for your transaction, choose an eligible bank or mobile payout instead.
How to send money from Singapore to India
- Sign in and start a transfer. Open the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, go to Global Remittance and begin a new transfer. Complete any identity-verification steps shown before proceeding.
- Select the destination and currencies. Choose India and select from the sending and receiving currency options displayed. If the recipient needs rupees, check that the receiving currency is INR.
- Choose a payout method. Select an available bank deposit, mobile payout or cash-pickup option. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the details requested for that method, such as an account number and IFSC, an eligible UPI ID or pickup information.
- Check the payment purpose and review the quote. Provide a truthful reason for the transfer and any information requested about the source of funds. Review the recipient details, the exchange rate, fees and the amount shown for the recipient before you confirm.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only when everything is correct. Then use its status tracking in Coinepay to follow its progress and respond promptly if more information is requested.
If the available payout method or a required field is unclear, stop before confirming and contact Coinepay support. Do not enter a guessed account number, IFSC, SWIFT/BIC or UPI ID just to get past a form.
Recipient-side checks and local requirements
Tell the recipient what type of transfer to expect and ask them to keep their bank, UPI or pickup details current. A recipient using bank deposit may need to complete bank identity checks or supply the purpose of the incoming payment. A recipient using UPI should verify that the ID resolves to the intended account. A cash-pickup recipient should be able to present the required identification.
The rules can also depend on why the money is being sent and which payout arrangement is used. Some India remittance arrangements are intended for personal transfers rather than trade payments or donations. If you are paying an overseas supplier, choose a suitable business payment route and provide accurate transaction records. An organisation receiving a foreign charitable contribution may have separate Indian requirements, so confirm its eligibility and designated receiving account before sending. The recipient may also need to consider tax or reporting obligations based on the nature of the payment; ask a qualified local adviser when needed.
Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations. Coinepay may request documents about the purpose or source of funds. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions; customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists.
Troubleshooting a transfer to India
- Wrong recipient details: If you spot an incorrect name, account number, IFSC or UPI ID after confirmation, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support immediately. Do not assume a submitted transfer can be edited or stopped. An incorrect bank detail may lead to rejection or return.
- Recipient not found for UPI: Ask the recipient to recheck the exact UPI ID and whether their bank and handle are eligible for incoming remittances. If the option cannot identify them, consider another available payout method rather than entering someone else’s details.
- Compliance review: Watch for requests from Coinepay or the receiving bank for identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents. Provide accurate documents through the requested channel; a bank wire may also need a valid purpose code.
- Transfer taking longer than expected: Check its status first. A bank may still be processing the payment, or a holiday, missing information or recipient-side check may affect progress. If the status does not explain the issue, ask support to review the transfer.
- Returned transfer: Check the status and any return reason, then verify the recipient details with their bank before starting a replacement. Contact support if you need help understanding what happened or what to correct.

FAQ
Does an Indian recipient need an IBAN?
No. India has no national IBAN format. Use the account number and any bank codes requested for the payout method, such as an IFSC for an Indian bank deposit.
Can I send to a UPI ID instead of an Indian bank account number?
If an eligible UPI payout is offered for your transfer, enter the recipient’s exact UPI ID. They should confirm that their bank and UPI handle can receive the remittance.
What does a recipient need for cash pickup in India?
They generally need an accepted identity document matching the legal name on the transfer and must follow the collection instructions provided. Check that cash pickup is offered for your transaction.
What if I entered the wrong Indian account number?
Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support immediately. A submitted transfer may not be editable, and incorrect details can cause a rejection or return.
